Whoa, I didn't realize DX9 has been out for nearly two years now. I was planning on upgrading my PC here soon, but I think I'm going to hold off until next year.

Whoa, I didn't realize DX11 has been out for nearly two years now. I was planning on upgrading my PC here soon, but I think I'm going to hold off until next year.
etc - jggube, on 10/05/2008, -2/+28 If I start saving now... I may actually be able to buy one of these DX11 cards by 2015! :)
- CoreyHalliwell, on 10/07/2008, -2/+26***** the video card! I want my free monkey!
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -4/+20why do people keep saying that? ATI video cards have been great and consistently edge out their nvidia conterparts on tomshardware lists for best video cards for the money, month after month.
- Sheepsterbaby, on 10/05/2008, -1/+16Dont worry, we will be on DX12 by then! :D
- spyd3rweb, on 10/07/2008, -0/+14The 4870 is better than the 260.
- zeroanimated, on 10/06/2008, -2/+16maybe even DX16, at this rate
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/07/2008, -2/+15How short our memories are. This "better" company goes back and forth every two years or so. Right now ATI is back on top with its 48xx cards.
- yannickmartin, on 10/07/2008, -1/+14"Oh—I made up the bit about the free monkey."
:( - jgtg32a, on 10/07/2008, -0/+13I was under the impression that 10 wasn't about vast improvements from the users POV, but it was more about the addition of Unified Shades and more consistent hardware, ie just DX10 not DX9 with shaders 2.0
- RyomaNagare, on 10/06/2008, -1/+12anyway... DX is only popular on odd number versions.
3, 5, 7.1 and 9 where all very popular, while, 6, 8.1 and 10 did not get the attention they deserved.
I'm sure 11 will rock /sarcasm - CColtManM, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10They do make this clear in the article.
If you are too lazy, the answer is no, DX11 will not be available for XP. - SuperKewlGirl, on 10/05/2008, -2/+10I can't wait
- Vindicoth, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8Lets all take the time to thank AMD/ATI for the last few weeks of really awesome and competitive pricing. Without them we would still have 400 dollar GTX 260's.
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Oh come on, stop with the exaggerating. DirectX 10 came out in 2006, DirectX 11 is coming out next year. I think 3 years between versions is not a very fast rate.
My guess is that DirectX 13 will be out in the 2015 timeframe. - ExRe, on 10/07/2008, -2/+9Only if you exclude the 4XXX series.
- pennyfan87, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7It will support Vista: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/directx-11-detai ...
- scabbers, on 10/07/2008, -1/+8FTA: "We'll see 40nm process technology cards at some point (no word on when)"
SAME GOES FOR JETPACKS.
Buried for inaccurate description. - Ahnteis, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Always wanting "HIGHEST" or "BEST" or "FASTEST" is expensive. Learn to live at "HIGH", "GOOD", and "FAST". :P
- herrshuster, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7But can it run Cry...
yes. - Rikushix, on 10/07/2008, -0/+740nm jetpacks? Golly!
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6with a 500% pricecut in 8 months everyone can buy one!
- Scaryclouds, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7Whoa, I didn't realize DX10 has been out for nearly two years now. I was planning on upgrading my PC here soon, but I think I'm going to hold off until next year.
- jkbaylor, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5And John Carmack comes swooping in just to say, "Who cares."
- fwertz, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5I dugg you because I too hate being buried for typing huge comments. Now I'm going to read what you read.
[pause]
Ok scratch that, I'm burying you for stating the obvious and trying to find similarities between ATI GPUs, the iPhone, and the LHC. - SpectralSounds, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5I can't wait for the free monkey!
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5there are more than 3 directx 10 games out?
- Rikushix, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5Uh, dude, I'm an nVidia fan and I can safely say that ATI's 4000 series are slightly better than nVidias current offerings (i.e. 260 and 280). The 4850 and 4870 are very solid cards.
For value I'll take two 8800gts in SLI any day but I always appreciate a bit of healthy competition between ATI and nVidia. - zeroeffect, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4The monkey is a lie!
- BoSuu, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3By the end of next year you expected your computer to be playing everything at highest quality?
Sarcasm? - mshtml, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Current ATI cards can already power photoshop CS4.

CUDA will go way of the dinosaur when OCL and DX11 hit. - Evilblobs, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Video Cards have dropped significantly, for all ends.
just follow this timeline
1) Nvidia releases new core ($500-600 for enthusiast level)
2) 2 weeks later: ATI releases new core (~300$ for enthusiast)
3) Nvidia cuts prices by 30-40% - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3So it supports OCL, does that mean I can use my ATI card to power my photoshop, or is that still the CUDA or whatever NVIDA had?
- RyomaNagare, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Anyway the best one so far was DX 4.0
- ExRe, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Try the 4870 X2.
- dejanigma, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Whoa hell yea free monkey!
- tulpe, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2i’m mad as hell, and i’m not gonna take this anymore!
- Arramol, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2That's how it always works. You didn't expect the graphics industry to just stop when you bought new equipment, did you? It's not like your cards are suddenly going to become useless, in any case. The games you buy at that time will still look better on your computer than the ones coming out now, you just won't be able to brag that you're playing them at max settings.
- KeillRandor, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2yep - basically - the odd number versions introduce new features, and the even number versions tidy them up to make it easier for the developers to use... Well, maybe... (Doesn't quite work, but never mind - it's a nice theory :p).
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/07/2008, -4/+6I think ATI always had decent hardware. Their problem was they had absolute piece of ***** drivers with several different pieces that had to be installed in the exact right order otherwise your system got screwed.
Apparently they have fixed these problems in recent years, but I wouldn't know because I went Nvidia and I am never going back to ATI. - Ahnteis, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2It's true. Of course, their drivers have sucked every time I've taken a chance on ATI. But they make great hardware.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/08/2008, -1/+2You have failed. Please die.
- reqage, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Is it like the evil monkey that lives in the closet?
- bipolarruledout, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I'm completely against ATI subsidizing the Bush administration after they leave office.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Well... at least they are not ***** with DX10b, DX10c, DX10c june version.... and all that DX9 crap we used to have.
- mastermemorex, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1I wanna monkey!
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Ok I actually looked into it more, so for anyone interested, OCL is Apple's format for the GPGPU architecture. NVIDIA has the CUDA architecture for the same purpose. Seeing as how a lot of Photoshop users have Mac's, I'd be willing to bet that Adobe is going to support both OCL, and CUDA.
Though according to this, it isn't even run on CUDA

Either way, graphics acceleration for Photoshop and other similar photo and video editing projects is good news. - n8dude, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1I'm buying it just for the monkey.
- Scrappy1850, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1who needs love? id settle for a hj
- Jektal, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Want a free squirrel?
