- Innuendo24, on 05/21/2009, -0/+17Dropbox is such a godly application. The uses are simply limitless.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -0/+13it would take 3 years to load.
- uruururr, on 05/21/2009, -1/+13dugg for hamachi
- HALNINETHOUSAND, on 05/21/2009, -10/+19I love potatoes. That is all.
- diemunkiesdie, on 05/21/2009, -6/+14Dugg for the first mash-up, the rest are kind of meh.
- enrq, on 05/21/2009, -0/+7there are security concerns around it as it uses proprietary protocols and a (their own) server to link your computers so anyone working there could have access to your stuff
- carlosos, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6Yes it works well for that. What I have done is installed hamachi on every computer in my family and we got a big VPN over multiple cities. The only thing that I still have to get working is wake on lan using my router so that I can also turn on remotely the PCs.
- Iwantawii, on 05/21/2009, -0/+6Does anybody here use this application regularly? It seems like the perfect program for my home FTP/SVN server among other things. Do you think this program would work well for those purposes?
- kurupttek, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Pretty cool list all in one page
http://www.maximumpc.com/print/6372 - NE5Freak, on 05/21/2009, -0/+5Windows xp has symlinks to, they're however not as easy to work with compared to linux.
How to create and manipulate NTFS junction points:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/205524
however unlike true symlinks there are some problems, most notably:
* Deleting a junction point using Windows Explorer will delete the targeted files immediately if using shift-delete.
* If the junction point is sent to the Recycle Bin, the targeted files will look safe, but will be deleted when the Recycle Bin is emptied.
* Moving the junction point to a different location on the same drive only moves the junction point. However, moving it to another drive turns the junction point into a regular directory and moves all files there (leaving the original targeted directory empty). Undoing the move puts the junction directory and its contents back on the original drive, but the original targeted directory is still empty (that is, the junction is not recreated).
* While walking through the directory with Windows Explorer, use shift-delete to delete directories, however files can be deleted normally. Disabling the recycle bin for the drive hosting the junction point will allow regular deletion of folders.

Anyway dugg for dropbox+symlinks - cynic573, on 05/21/2009, -2/+7Dugg for StrokeIt. I've been using it for years and years, and surprisingly few people know about it. :)
- ChromaVita, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3I MASTURBATE TOO! Are you guys picking up on the subtlety?
- erictheturtle, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3While Hamachi seems to be the best and easiest VPN software available, I dislike that you HAVE to use their "mediator" servers to setup your connections.
- ChromaVita, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3I hate to say it, but every time I read that name I think of Tamagotchi. Maybe I'm just a child of the 90's.
- jer.williams, on 05/21/2009, -3/+6Great feature and clever ideas. I'll be returning to this one in the future.
- serif69, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3It's very complicated in that each program started out originally either at different companies or at least at different development teams. It continues that way to this day. The way Photoshop works is completely different from the way Illustrator works, which is different still from InDesign, etc. Throw in the former Macromedia apps in there and it's one big *****. And that's not even mentioning the difference between vector, raster, and PostScript-based apps. I suggest reading John Nack's blog. He occasionally has updates and interviews with the Adobe programmers which are really insightful: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/

- Scrappy1850, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3like coke and hookers
- FLarsen, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2To make symbolic links on Windows XP, you can use junction.exe: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb ...
Just drop it in system32 or any other folder in %path%. - shuffle, on 05/21/2009, -4/+6I think most digg'ers know about strok'in it ...
- s73v3r, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2Yeah, I didn't get why they said that first one was Vista and Windows 7 only. You could easily get that trick to work in any system that has symlinks (Mac/Linux/BSD/etc). Still, neat tip.
- twiztidsinz, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2Junction Link Magic: http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm

Takes all the trouble out of using Symbolic/Junction Links and to mount folders as drives. - ChromaVita, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2And it'd take forever to torrent.

Takes all the trouble out of using Symolic/Junction Links and to mount folders as drives. - westyvw, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2Yep.
I <3 Toolchains - ChromaVita, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2You'd have a pretty bloated system?
- mstubz, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2Another good one that is similar to autoHotKey is autoIT. You can make some pretty sweet things with it.
- davegtturbo, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2Far to many pages.
- Iwantawii, on 05/21/2009, -1/+3Kind of like how a "Picture is worth 1000 words," but how 2 pictures is worth, easily, 4000 words.
- ChromaVita, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2Because if you only work on raster images you probably wouldn't want to shell out the money for Illustrator and Indesign. And what if you're a print designer that still uses Quark? (They still exist!)
- s73v3r, on 05/21/2009, -1/+3And people were selling sex long before a term "prostitution" was invented. Your point?
- singingfishy, on 05/22/2009, -1/+3Is it really that hard to navigate through pages where it ruins the article? How do you ever read a book and enjoy it, or do you prefer microfiche?
- wtfitsRICK, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2Nine items on five pages. Lookout, Cracked. You've got a contender.
- Scrappy1850, on 05/21/2009, -2/+4since i was 11
- Ranzera, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2I think, at least with Strokeit and Autohotkey, the potential of both apps were increased. Autohotkey can't interpret gestures and Strokeit can't run scripts. Together however, they let you run scripts with gestures. IMO, that's really pretty nifty.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -1/+2Technical point.... can you really increase the potential of something? You may view that potential differently, but its potential is still the same.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -1/+2People were using more than one program at a time way before a term "mashup" was invented.
- gamerbambi, on 05/21/2009, -2/+3Why not have all of Adobe's Creative Suite all in one program?
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1The point is that when you have sex with your girlfriend you don't call it prostitution.
"Mashup" is normally a Web application that combines data or functionality from two or more sources into a single integrated application. Two things that work well together don't have to be labeled a "mashup". - holyskeleton, on 05/21/2009, -2/+3what would happen if i mash all of them together?
- MrWally, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1I use Hamachi quite a bit. It's fabulous. However, it seems to me that sometimes programs don't recognize Hamachi's VPN. I then tried using Ventrilo, and that seems to get the job done every time.
- arthursk, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1you pay your girlfriend for sex?
- openair555, on 05/21/2009, -1/+1Here's an app that's essentially a mashup of multiple websites, can be handy for monitoring stuff:
http://www.viewista.com - jbandbdb, on 05/22/2009, -0/+0interesting idea... i have never imagined how complicated telling
