- Fergy, on 12/28/2007, -11/+165I wish computerworld.com would get into web 2.0 and provide a clean webpage without thousands of links surrounding 2 paragraphs of content.
- Darkhacker, on 12/28/2007, -6/+81That's not web 2.0 (which doesn't exist). That's common sense and good design ideas.
- Oatmeal, on 12/28/2007, -3/+76When I clicked that link this was the first thing I saw:
""Firefox prevented this site from opening 2 popup windows" "
I'm assuming that's item #6 I'll like about firefox 3? - SpoonThe, on 12/28/2007, -3/+42the only really useful thing seems to be better memory management. the rest seem like really minor improvements.
- 4U55l3NlNJ4, on 12/28/2007, -3/+23some of the "new things" exist in firefox 2.0.. and the "unnoticed" differences in graphics.. you have to be blind... buried as lame.
- chugger1992, on 12/28/2007, -0/+18congrats Firefox!

Tabs open (in all browsers): Google, Digg, Yahoo, MySpace, Acid2, Microsoft
Yes, those CPU times are after the browser stableized. - aamittle, on 12/28/2007, -9/+26Firefox 3 is awesome. Hillary Clinton is a moo cow.
- 4rch, on 12/28/2007, -7/+21What ads?
Seriously, get adblock, the web is so much nicer with it. - fr34k5h0w, on 12/28/2007, -2/+14Actually that's 5). But thanks for playing
- Zebceponaf, on 12/28/2007, -0/+11Honestly I don't give a ***** about anything except them fixing the memory leak. Don't get me wrong, I love FireFox but when it's burning up 200mb of ram I tend to start swearing and punching babies.
Fix the memory leak, and we're one step closer to world peace. - inactive, on 12/28/2007, -3/+14dugg for #5
- aceallways, on 12/28/2007, -0/+9that and download resume imo, although that should have been there from the beginning
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 12/28/2007, -2/+10Yeah, they claim the ability to "save your tabs" is new in Firefox 3. Hello?! That already exists in Firefox 2...
- fr34k5h0w, on 12/28/2007, -0/+8I wish they would have left the Clear Downloads button though. It's unintuitive to right click (especially on Macs) to clear downloads or to see where it's being downloaded to. /rant
- fkr3, on 12/28/2007, -1/+9The site's a business and advertising revenue's the profit model. It helps immensely that they write pointless crap that gets blindly dugg like "5 things you'll love about Firefox 3" for an audience who is well able to keep up with what Mozilla are doing.
- jiveturkeyblues, on 12/28/2007, -0/+8there's an add-on to get rid of that terrible thing and show your downloads in a toolbar at the bottom. it's fantastic.
- obxjdt, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7apt-get moo
- Sabretou, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7He never mentioned ads, foo!
- gmillerd, on 12/28/2007, -0/+7Just waiting for google bookmark sync and I am there.
- ByteGuerilla, on 12/28/2007, -0/+6A lot of ad-supported sites have interstitial adverts. Computerworld has interstitial content.
Badum-Tsh! - andycr512, on 12/28/2007, -1/+7Right, because blocking ads means you're a nerd. Heck, -real- men don't even mute commercials on TV.
- wolferz, on 12/28/2007, -2/+7FTA: "It now lists not only the file name, but the URL it was downloaded from, and includes an icon that leads to information about when and where you downloaded it."
Existed in all versions going back to at least Version 2.0... only change is you don't have to right click and choose properties to see it now.
FTA: "3. A workable bookmark organizer. Speaking of bookmarks, the separate history/bookmarks sidebars and managers have been replaced -- or, rather, augmented -- by a single Places Organizer, which uses Windows Explorer's familiar tree-on-the-left/list-on-the-right format. It offers a simple, quick way to read and manage your history and bookmarks..."
Also existed in 2.5 and possibly before though I really never used bookmarks much before that. They did make it so that adding bookmarks in 3.0 no longer opens a new window but opens a little drop down next to the "location bar." At first this was rather irritating but recent updates have fixed many of the problems it had, such as inability to handle folders and sub folders in your bookmarks.
FTA: "My only quibble: A Recently Visited list would also be handy -- more handy, I think, than a list of sites that were recently bookmarked."
This is an unnecessary feature as the same functionality can be gotten by hitting the down arrow next to the "location bar" to view your recently visited sites starting with the most recent. Last I checked there isn't a GUI browser available that doesn't have this feature. Has this guy ever used a web browser before?
By far the most welcome improvement I've seen personally is the better memory management. It's like I'm using a different browser and not only does it use less memory but it performs faster (contrary to what the Mozilla fanboys would have you think). The browser starts up slightly faster but it loads pages MUCH faster, even with numerous tabs open in several windows while running Oblivion in a window on a different monitor (which I did recently when I decided to try my hand at a little modding). I also had task manager open because Oblivion sprang a memory leak once I enabled my mod, firefox never used more than 150 megs of ram with over 20 tabs open. - RTPMatt, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5Call me crazy, but i don't like the new download manager or the new address bar don't think they look nice. My girlfriend hated the new address bar so much she made me switch it back to the old version.
I hope they give the option of using the old style, or that someone quickley comes up with an extension to bring back the old look. - poploserdigg, on 12/28/2007, -1/+6still have no idea why they have not built in an ability to ADD sites to the pop-up blocker. it doesn't catch them all.
- Zebceponaf, on 12/28/2007, -6/+11I'm digging you down just for using "hello" in question form.
- obxjdt, on 12/28/2007, -1/+5MSIE took all their fancy new features from Firefox. I don't know anyone that is going back to the nightmare of ActiveX. I bet you like Vista too....
- falafelkiosken, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4bad memory management is virtually the only thing I dislike about firefox, it would be great if they improve that (which they are)
- JAKN, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4just click "Print this Article" and read that copy
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Crap free, single page print version: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com ...
- obxjdt, on 12/28/2007, -2/+6Better memory management!?!?!?
I'm loyal to FF, but I must say "it's about freekin' time they fixed the memory leak!!!" Should have been patched years ago. - wolferz, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4uhm... yes firefox 3.0 does...
FTA: "...and it has enhanced the browser's ability to magnify Web pages from just affecting text to taking in the entire page..."
I've also tested this on sites like youtube and newgrounds personally using firefox 3 beta 2... - thailand1972, on 12/28/2007, -0/+4Ah! So web 2.0 is actually "a more refined strategy for developing and financing internet startups."
That explains everything then. - iofthestorm, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5You know you can right click on any flash applet and press zoom in? Works in any browser...
- TheWindBlows, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3I don't know whats wrong with the address bar it looks fine under GNOME not much different. firefox 3 beta 3 pre
nevermind I know what the problem is... They go rid of the green arrow for ' GO ' damn...
Also it is kind of annoying that they got rid of clear all button on the download manager bar - wolferz, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3the guy who wrote this article is an idiot and a tool.
But while his evidence and claims are mostly wrong and entirely suspect he is right about improved memory management. I've been using Firefox 3 beta for about a month now. It's memory footprint is up to half what It used to be. Keep in mind though that i often have a huge number of tabs open at once and use several different plugins. Still even with the same plugins and same conditions, firefox is notably faster and has a noticeably smaller footprint. - inactive, on 12/28/2007, -3/+6I would sat that Web 2.0 is more of a style of web development done using certain technologies such as AJAX
- uremomsnitemare, on 12/28/2007, -3/+6unless you're stupid, then yes, you will
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4Smoother scrolling when you click the middle button on your mouse.
- darrenpauli, on 12/28/2007, -1/+4Your jokes are pathetic. Do you have any other posts I can bury?
- ayeroxor, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3No. Web 2.0 is all about pretentious people making up words like "webdevelopment"
- saisumimen, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3Don't just tempt people! Spread the love: http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/

|| || - saisumimen, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Obvious troll is obvious.
- svivian, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2I think the "save tabs" thing is more akin to sessions in Opera, rather than restoring tabs from last time. In other words, you save your tabs, close them, browse some more, etc, then another time open up those same tabs again.
- Rowanw, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2That's a shame, some people get upset over the silliest things. Once you understand what the new location bar can do for you, you'll be hooked.
- icsbase, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Too bad the article is on computerworld, which is the most horrifying advertisement hell among IT-sites. Seriously, they even left out adblock off from great addons for firefox review just because they want money from adds. People have right to know about every addon there is!
- fr34k5h0w, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2But why remove it if it wasn't broken in the first place?
- Corrosionx, on 12/28/2007, -1/+3I love being able to go back to websites by writing keywords in the address bar, like the way it used to do with URLs but now with the title. Nice touch.
- chozsun, on 12/28/2007, -2/+4I could give a crap about anything else. All I wanted was for Mozilla to admit that Firefox had major memory issues (I can easily hit 500MB) and fix them.
If Firefox 3's only improvement was memory management then that is good enough for me.
Well that and if it was as fast as Opera but that would be a silly wish. - bahamutxd, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Web 2.0 is just a marketing term to describe the move from static pages to more dynamic pages. Bring the rich client experience to the web. Like Darkhacker said, it's a natural progression - it is common sense.
