- poisonborz, on 05/31/2009, -11/+62Chrome has a long way to go until it can replace Firefox. Not in terms of speed and standard compatibility, it already has that (just like Opera for a long time). But the fact that FF can be *completely* customized, that it's portable, it's profile management, extension database, etc... I know these are mostly things for power users, but they had a huge role to get FF in the position it has now.
- Sheepsterbaby, on 05/31/2009, -2/+49The Firefox elitism, it burns D:
- lostsymphonies1, on 05/31/2009, -7/+40All those plugins also cause HUGE speed problems with firefox, sounds all fine and dandy but when you get 5 or 6 of them running, it takes up an unreasonably large amount of memory
- archer75, on 05/31/2009, -2/+29I must be the only person who doesn't use extensions in firefox. But I prefer to use chrome now. Fastest browser I have ever used period. And takes only a fraction of the ram that firefox does.
- bloodqc, on 05/31/2009, -1/+26How were you able to write this comment if you don't visit sites who used annoying ads?
- inactive, on 05/31/2009, -2/+24buried for saying Fire Fox.
- Pinkertinkle, on 05/31/2009, -2/+23The adblock blocks everything but google ads
- pyroguy56011, on 05/31/2009, -1/+15Why not? Even without the extensions, Chrome wipes the floor with the competition.
- alexka, on 05/31/2009, -0/+14My mom calls if FoxFire no matter how many times I correct her
- thesonofdarwin, on 05/31/2009, -3/+16No, you aren't. But if you don't use extensions the switch to Chrome is a no-brainer. The only extensions I used in Firefox were AdBlock and NoScript and I realized I no longer visited sites that used annoying ads or malicious scripts so they were no longer needed.
- lostsymphonies1, on 05/31/2009, -5/+17lol, user error. Chrome out performs every other browser in user friendliness as well as technical specs
- marx2k, on 05/31/2009, -7/+19Wake me up when there's a Linux version
- thesonofdarwin, on 05/31/2009, -0/+11How are the ads annoying? No sound. Don't expand. No popups. Them being there, realistically speaking, can be no more annoying than the Sports button on the top of this page. Both I have no interest in. Both are taking up space on the page. Both link to information I'd find useless. Yet I find neither annoying.
- dtfinch, on 05/31/2009, -0/+10After years of us complaining, they very recently made it so you can disable Google Update with a registry key, so it doesn't reinstall/reenable itself every time you install or update something from Google.
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/05/customize ...
Their final reason for allowing it to be disabled was to give network admins more control over updates, so that corporations wouldn't ban Google software outright from their desktops, having nothing to do with user freedom. - inactive, on 05/31/2009, -2/+11Mac version?

- damack, on 05/31/2009, -1/+9I think the thing is a lot of people don't realise a lot of noobs end up becoming power users.
I remember when I was a firefox noob just trying out Firefox and after a while I heard about this thing called extensions.
I was encouraged to try it so I took a big step and downloaded an extension. Back in those days it felt like I was doing some big L33T thing since I'd never been down that road before but now I have a handful of extensions and my Firefox is highly customised.
If you give people the tools to customise something the features may seem confusing at first but when you become adept at using the software you start playing with the more advanced features and the noob becomes L33T.
I'm willing to bet quite a number of Firefox users have more than 2 extensions installed. - keyo, on 05/31/2009, -0/+8Can you not add a pattern to it? *googlesynd*
Lol, sounds like a great way to increase business, just block everyone elses ***** adverts, your ones are much better google. - ontain, on 05/31/2009, -0/+8just passing my mouse over some of the flash adds on Digg will activate the sound.
- themastersb, on 05/31/2009, -2/+10What's wrongwith MozillaFire Fox?
- pyroguy56011, on 05/31/2009, -3/+11How the hell do you figure? Chrome is already moving much faster than Firefox ever has, and it's showing no signs of slowing. I'd say Chrome already rocks Firefox in the categories that matter most.
- AndrewDB, on 05/31/2009, -4/+11Wake on up Marx.
http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu ... - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 05/31/2009, -4/+11This is a repeated/copied/blogspam article from a few days ago. Bury.
- vaccumpony, on 05/31/2009, -2/+8 A very big problem with any piece of downloaded software from Google is the Google Updater. I don't have a problem with Google having a unified updating mechanism. I do have two problems with how they did it. The first is that it is ALWAYS running. Why? Even if I'm not running any Google software the Updater is running. I went through the hoops of turning it off in Services (running XP here), but that didn't last long before it was running again. I don't like that.
The second thing is a nitpick extension of the Adblock issue. I run Adblock not only because I don't want to see ads, but also because I don't want to pay for the bandwidth. I live in New Zealand and we have metered broadband (well, it's called Broadband, but you have to say it with a bit of sarcasm). I've got a 10 gig cap. Past that I have to pay extra for every each 1 gig block. I'm a nazi about apps that use the net for their own purposes. Anything from Google FAILS just because of that damn Google Updater. Which sucks because I really dig Google Earth.
If anyone knows of a real method to kill Google Updater and still run Google software I'd love to learn it. - MAGZine, on 06/01/2009, -1/+7Wow! How efficient! Only 250 Megs!
- AndrewDB, on 05/31/2009, -2/+8I'm running Chrome right now.. and for some strange reason I can't get get GreaseMonkey to work. I've tried GreaseMetal, it dumps be back to desktop, I've tried the --enable-greasemonkey shortcut tag, and it still doesn't work, does anyone have any advice? :(
I'd love to get these extensions to work but I won't be able to until I get GreaseMonkey to work. :( - marx2k, on 06/01/2009, -0/+5I've tried that version. Missing a bunch of stuff :/ Chrome she is not!
- danielwsmithee, on 05/31/2009, -0/+5As soon as Chrome supports extensions it going to suck just like firefox slow a bloated. Give me fast and streamlined vs. slow and bloated any day.
- vertex, on 05/31/2009, -2/+7I'll wait for a mirror.
- MAGZine, on 06/01/2009, -0/+4It has a DOM inspector built in, or you can use a Firebug bookmarklet.
http://getfirebug.com/lite.html - MScrip, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4Me too. I wish there was a title bar at the top.
If I'm switching between a smaller window and a maximized Chrome window... because the tabs are at the top... I switch to whatever tab I happen to click on. Really annoying.
If I'm switching between a smaller window and a maximized Firefox window... I just move my mouse to the top of the screen and click. - bwishey, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4All I want is foxmarks... sorry, xmarks, and I'm good.
- qeek, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/sub-r ...
- BrettSchu, on 05/31/2009, -1/+5Odd thing I've noticed about Adsweep and I've only had it for 5 minutes. It blocks basically the whole front page on gameFAQS.com. If I found one site it does that to so quickly, I'm sure there's more.
- crwbot, on 05/31/2009, -2/+6Buried, these aren't new, these are the ones already reported.
- Junior612, on 05/31/2009, -1/+5I've used Chrome since day one with no extensions just fine and will continue to do so.
- KaiserArny, on 05/31/2009, -0/+4You don't need GreaseMetal at all. Add --enable-extensions for extensions and/or --enable-user-scripts for user scrips to the shortcut tag. Make sure you have the latest Chrome. I have 3.0182.3 and the Adsweep works perfectly.
- Twee, on 06/01/2009, -0/+3wtf is taking them so long to release a stable mac version?
- stockjones, on 06/01/2009, -0/+3Give me options with extensions. No one says you have to install the extensions if you don't want to.
- bloodwings, on 05/31/2009, -2/+51. repeat article.
2. adsweep has worked since 1.0
3. developers build only.
4. bury. - eldridgea, on 05/31/2009, -1/+4Bookmark sync and I'll be good to go.
- marx2k, on 06/01/2009, -0/+3Who says I haven't? It's missing a ton of stuff.
- uldreg, on 06/01/2009, -1/+3You're mom is bad
- CrudOMatic, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2Opera FTW.
- lithera, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2In my opinion extensions are a really cool feature of FF but you have to be careful with them.
Every time I install a new one I ask myself do I *really* need it. If not I won't install them otherwise you end up with a ***** of useless stuff that slows you down and has none or little added value.
That said, I basicaly can't imagine browsing anymore without some of my favorite extensions :)
Other browsers like chrome might try to catch up with it but I doubt they will be on-par or beyond with FF anytime soon. FF has a huge user/fan base. The amount of extensions already developed is enourmous and I doubt a lot of the authors will be doing ports soon. - egemenbor, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2anyone know how to get internet download manager working in chrome like it does in ie and firefox? i.e. when i right click on a link i want the 'download with idm' option..only thing stopping me from switching to chrome..
- Akumajin, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Gestures and adblock and I'll switch
- hakkola, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2I always thought Firefox was slow, even without extensions. I found IE faster. I never got the love for Firefox. Chrome is great though, quick and a simple layout. I like it.
- esc27, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2The single greatest problem with Chrome remains that it is developed and managed by the largest and most successful data gathering/mining company in history, and not one with a good history of protecting users privacy. I just don't trust it.
- hardeep1singh, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2because its old and broken?
