- CrazedLeper, on 09/15/2009, -1/+37Can't believe I'm about to say this but: "it's about time someone did an apps list for Android". There. I said it.
- dhiggy, on 09/15/2009, -1/+30I am loving my Android phone.
- Jugosk, on 09/15/2009, -0/+26yo iPhone, I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU, IMA LET YOU FINISH, BUT ANDROID IS ONE OF THE BEST PHONES OF ALL TIME. ONE OF THE BESST PHONES OF ALL TIME.
- dhiggy, on 09/15/2009, -0/+19My Android phone (HTC Hero), is with Vodafone and Android is also available with Orange and T-Mobile.
In the UK it is the iPhone that is limited by one mobile carrier (O2). - nullity, on 09/15/2009, -0/+12Ok, how about Sprint? -> http://phandroid.com/2009/09/03/sprint-htc-hero-oc ...
Or maybe you'd rather wait for Verizon? -> http://phandroid.com/2009/09/02/motorola-sholes-ri ...
Does it matter now? - gwaggy12, on 09/15/2009, -0/+8This list is a bit out of date. For instance, Facebook and Pandora have recently released official Android apps.
- Nerfdude, on 09/15/2009, -1/+7I can't believe they overlooked the top notch bittorrent apps for Android.
I use Transdroid and Torrent-Fu. both provide solid searching and remote access to uTorrent (and other, less important clients), and one includes barcode scan/search.
Go with your buddy to Best Buy when he's buying a dvd, game, cd if he still buys those... scan the barcode on whatever he's buying, and by the time you're back at your place, you have it too. Beyond cool. - ajb2015, on 09/15/2009, -1/+7he is leaving iraq, not leaving for iraq.
- LokitheComplex, on 09/15/2009, -1/+7I'm waiting on the Sony Ericsson one; it better be worth the wait.
- Mapekz, on 09/15/2009, -1/+7The second Motorola Android to be released this year (the first is going to T-Mobile) is rumored to be the Calgary for Verizon. I hope they get some Android phones on Verizon so that it can be considered a real competitor to the iPhone/Blackberry.
- johnb41, on 09/16/2009, -0/+5I bought an iPhone about 3 months ago, and it's great! I am, however intrigued by Android. My only problem with Android is that there aren't enough Apps yet. When my 2 year contract is up, Android will have greatly matured, and will have a nice selection of Apps... hopefully enough to compete with iPhone. Then I'll seriously consider switching if Android has more to offer.
- tacojohn48, on 09/15/2009, -0/+5I am hoping for US Cellular to get one.
- Amazetbm, on 09/15/2009, -0/+4dhiggy, he means in the U.S. With Motorola and LG getting ready to roll out Android based phones, Sprint and Verizon might about to offer them in the U.S. as well.
- nullity, on 09/15/2009, -1/+5Second? T-Mobile has already added at least three new Androids to their line-up this year.
The next one will likely be Sprint's Hero on Oct. 11, unless Verizon jumps in front of them. -> http://phandroid.com/2009/09/03/sprint-htc-hero-oc ... - Nerfdude, on 09/15/2009, -0/+4the second an Android phone is available in-store from two carriers, it will be a viable adversary.
and it should be on three by the end of the year :) - AndrewDB, on 09/16/2009, -0/+3Yes, you can. Download any of the video playing applications and you can play any video codec you want.
I have 4 SD cards full of movies, anime and all sorts of stuff.
I have a 5th one full of SNES, Genesis and NES roms and they all work on the Android. - AndrewDB, on 09/16/2009, -0/+3Er.. have you even seen the marketplace?
- andymadigan, on 09/15/2009, -0/+3Why has every site suddenly decided that placing a position:static bar on the top/bottom/side of their page is a good idea? It's very annoying. How long until some advertiser realizes it's the perfect place to put an ad?
- Malarie, on 09/15/2009, -3/+6I hope Android gets enough support that it kills the iphone. i dont own an android phone, I have a BlackBerry 8830 world edition and loving it. I want in my pda to have: sshd, vsftpd, apache and a command line.
- atish505, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3HTC Hero is my Hero. Makes iPhone looks so yesterday.
- Jeebugorn, on 09/15/2009, -0/+3i'm in iraq right now. will be heading home in a few days and will be getting my t-mobile account turned back on. i've heard alot of good things about the G1 and like you, i like having a real keyboard. although i havent tried using a touch keyboard like on iphone or mytouch. think i may wait for android 2.
- nullity, on 09/15/2009, -0/+3Hi, I'm a dumbass, and missed the part where you said *Motorola* Android.
You are correct, and please dig me down. - seanmc303, on 09/16/2009, -0/+3T-Mobile is not that bad. Their unlimited data plan is cheaper than the AT&T plan. You can tether with their plan. I have been using T-Mobile for eight years and I have not had serious problems with their service. I guess that is because I am usually in a city. IMHO Sprint sucks the worst out of the major cell phone companies.
- Nerfdude, on 09/15/2009, -0/+3whoops, my bad, heh. yeah, wait for the Cliq.
..and i misspelled "Cliq". jesus, what a post.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/motorola-click- ... - damack, on 09/15/2009, -1/+3Hmm thats a tough one the problem Android has at the moment is a lack of suitable phones to show how good the OS is.
The MyTouch3G isn't bad but if you really want a phone that does it all ideally you would have to wait till Android 2 is released.
In the next few months there are dozens of high end Android phones due from multiple vendors.
It all really depends on what you plan to do with your Android device. You have to keep in mind Android tablets are around the corner too.
Personally I'd recommend you hold onto what you have for the next 3 or so months.
The lead up to the christmas period will see the market being hammered with Android phones from Sony Ericsson to Motorola, HTC and many others.
You will have much more choice in a few months and things will change once again when Android 2 is released. - ajb2015, on 09/15/2009, -0/+2....thats what he said, why are you digging me down. haha.
- adeelarshad82, on 09/15/2009, -11/+13<s>Android? Google Android? what is that?</s> There is just so much iphone noise around me I can't hear anything else
- Nerfdude, on 09/15/2009, -0/+2i've got a G1 on ATT as well, i have no issues with MMS. are you sure you entered everything correctly? i can't remember what settings i used (i've only had to do it once, about 10 months ago), but here, maybe this can help:
http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=866 ... - Jeebugorn, on 09/15/2009, -3/+5ok, digg. need some advice. bout to leave iraq in a few days. i have t-mobile, and was wanting to upgrade my blackberry pearl to an android phone. any recommendations. G1, mytouch, any other new android phones coming out soon that i should wait for? been out of the loop so not sure which one to get.
- Nerfdude, on 09/15/2009, -0/+2what bands are you going to be able to get in Iraq?
unfortunately, the G1 is showing its age, and they're saying it won't be able to support Android 2.0. I'm a big fan of having a real keyboard, so i'd probably wait until the Click comes out and have someone ship it to you, provided it'll work on available frequencies in Iraq.
For the record, I have a G1 and it's the best phone I've ever owned. - wrek, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2Handcent SMS is better than ChompSMS. Handcent supports text to speech, forwarding SMS, custom sigs for each contact, etc.,
- hitemup054, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2which apps does Android not have that iphone does? Other than games, there aren't many non-fart apps on iphone that are not on android. However, android already has several apps that iphone does not. basically, all the important ones are on Android (minus a full-fledged facebook app)
- michaelman77, on 09/15/2009, -0/+2I was about to mention the same thing. Any phone that has the Pirate Bay as a suggestion has my support.
- Lugal317, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2Here's a list of some of our top apps -- we created a weighting system using Google's rating and user submissions on forum posts and subsequent websites. The highest are the most highly referred to or rated applications.

When you get home...let me buy you that burger! http://digg.com/food_drink/Fast_Food_The_Ads_vs_Th ... - seanmc303, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1I don't know why you would want your phone to act as a server. Android does have sftp and ssh client options.
- warp99, on 09/15/2009, -1/+2Then go with a Nokia N900 using Maemo. Everything you mentioned (sshd, vsftpd, apache, terminal) was already available for my Nokia 770, which is almost 3 years old. Maemo is a Debian derivative so you can use source and many of the libraries plus you get a full suite of development tools.
- Malarie, on 09/15/2009, -1/+2@30seconds..
As he type the suggestion is Pirate Bay :D - wyattcamp26, on 12/16/2009, -0/+1Good competitor for iphonemania =)
- ifruit, on 09/15/2009, -0/+1I can tell off the top of my head that my MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com setting is wrong. I'll give it a shot, and thank you kind sir.
- neelshiv, on 09/15/2009, -0/+1Ive seen several top 10 lists, but the problem with that is that they typically pull from the same 15 or so apps. Its nice to get a longer list with a little more variety.
Could have used some games, though. - Jeebugorn, on 09/15/2009, -0/+1thanks. hadnt heard about android 2, may just wait for that to come out.
- skyred, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1#46 BeerCloud http://greatbrewers.com/story/beercloud-mobile-app
- PowderedToasty, on 09/15/2009, -3/+4I'm loving my phone too, I just wish it wasn't called a "myTouch". Worst name ever, sounds totally bootleg.
- s0l0s0ul, on 09/15/2009, -5/+6It wont be the perfect iPhone replacement until they put it on a piece of hardware that can compete with the 3GS. I have had the opportunity to play with a couple Android devices (the G1 and the G2) and they are both incredibly slow compared the the 3GS. I hope that they attach it to a competitive piece of hardware soon, because DAMN the HTC Hero UI on Android is sexy. Now it just needs the sexy specs to match.
- inactive, on 09/22/2009, -0/+1Jugosk - that was awesome!
- yomakaze, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1Wait for the Cliq - Supposedly it's coming out in late Oct/Early Nov. I have a G1 and love the interface but not the phone so much (bad battery life, lack of headphone jack are my biggest gripes) Though you can probably get a G1 relatively cheap now.
- Nelagster, on 09/16/2009, -1/+1and who are you, the official Motorola spokesman?
