- deadapostle, on 12/14/2008, -0/+36I find the best tool for writing online is a keyboard.
- jakobmakob, on 12/14/2008, -0/+14Seriously, 35 tools for writing? First, when are you ever on a computer that doesn't have a word processor? Second, why do we need 35? How about the three best ones, and the reasons why?
- jggube, on 12/14/2008, -1/+12Windows Live Writer is great for blogging offline.
- deadapostle, on 12/14/2008, -0/+8I've got sloppy handwriting, so I'm still sticking with the computer on this one.
- legendxx, on 12/14/2008, -1/+7You've been a user for over a year and you're still asking this question? STFU
- EricSancho, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6I've got sloppy computers, so I'm still sticking with handwriting on this one.
- EricSancho, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5uh, write or die:
http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html - steviesteveo, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Agreed there, although the best tool for writing full stop has to be a pen. It just beats thinking straight to a computer. You can't score out and refine nearly as well with a computer.
- Beatmiser, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Dugg for some interesting sites I'd never heard of like The Red Door. Very cool.
- bradleyland, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3What kind of masochistic bastard likes to write blog posts from an iPhone?
- deadapostle, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3I don't suppose you have been considering time and frequency in your attempts to determine the algorithm. Now that I think about it, I don't really think you've been trying to figure out the algorithm as much as you've just been bitching about it.
- Albumen, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I have always been partial to Edlin. Even easier to use than Vi!
- thegman3, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Oh mai gawd. Page load error! I want to read this article but the page won't frickin load.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3This is an excellent resource list. It includes info. on social networks, microblogging, and freelance writing opportunities. Well worth investigating further. Bookmarked!
- EricSancho, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Although I see what you mean (who needs 35?), maybe they just want to help people know what's out there...
- sinfony, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1I love when articles about good tools for writing are rife with grammatical errors.
- iHeartCamels, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1There's a glaring ommission here.
What about citation systems like Refworks or endnote? Google Scholar? Anyone writing a thesis or research paper needs resources like these. - cubicledrone, on 12/14/2008, -1/+2According to some, writing is unskilled labor. Only scientists and engineers (who apparently learned their "skills" through telepathy) are skilled. Why the ***** would writers need tools?
Wait, you mean it was all a load of ***** to begin with?
Oh, and real writers use cat. Thank you. - Carlix, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Writing is the language of the soul...
- chaiwalla, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Mirror anyone? Seems like Mashable is down.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1That is cool. Did a 100 word tryout:
Okay, so here I am writing. This seems pretty neat. Wonder what happens if I stop?? Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahah...Rick Astley!! What a ***** douche!!!!!!! Oh *****...it just keeps playing. That is awful. OKAY....I'm writing...I'm writing. Jeez...this program reminds me of my ex-wife. Its just never enough. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH....***** you too Rick!! Good lord...you pause for like 5 seconds and then the pink comes. Oh and you know what's right around the corner if you fingers don't start pounding the keyboard. *****, 12 more words and this little test drive is OVER! - naphets66, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Lot of great sites here.
- Jpdaley, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Mirror, please!
- Rothbardosaurus, on 12/14/2008, -5/+6Screw that crap. emacs is the best.
- jadoon88, on 12/15/2008, -0/+0nice collection
- TempusEdax, on 12/14/2008, -1/+1Very good find. Lots of useful links, though the inclusion of facebook and twitter seems a little obvious...
- slysamba, on 12/14/2008, -2/+2word.
- xmen15, on 02/18/2009, -0/+0There are some very nice resources listed there. I know quite a few people swear by notepad for writing most anything, but I actually prefer Jarte. It's free and has some really nice features built in. Some of the resources listed are stretching the definition of a writing tool, and really point more to a publishing platform (facebook).
http://www.businesssupplyblog.com - oda1, on 12/14/2008, -1/+1What's the point? the majority of the people using these tools are going to be teenage girls blogging about their parents and how kyle isn't dating sandra anymore.
- kreatr, on 12/14/2008, -1/+1^^ switch to linux
- lachikinvisible, on 12/20/2008, -0/+0Good and interesting article. I agree with you, these are several of the best tool for writing. Most of these tools are free. I write using OpenOffice and Google Docs. I have blogs in Blogger, WordPress, Yahoo. and MySpace. Other useful tools for writers are online translators and spelling and grammar checkers. Everyone can check the all the tools and choose the tools that fit better to her or his necessities.
- cacala59, on 06/01/2009, -0/+0Thanks
http://www.seslidostluk.com - 1911shooter, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0Good information with some resources I hadn't seen before. I've tried a number of different writing tools, but keep coming back to good ole Microsoft Word. Although I don't like the Word tags that are inserted, if you save it as a standard text document, all that garbage gets removed. Between it and notepad, I'm pretty set. Just my .02 worth.
