- Gizza, on 01/22/2009, -0/+22I'm pretty sure Windows + E has worked since Windows 95.
- VNXX, on 01/22/2009, -0/+21Thanks man. I like using keyboard shortcuts instead of dumb mouse clicking ;)
- goeric, on 01/22/2009, -2/+16Should be titled: 20 Windows 7 Shortcuts: Every Windows 7 keyboard shortcut Uncovered to Date.
- armo, on 01/22/2009, -0/+14It allows the system to be rebooted cleanly if it crashes.
"Reboot Even If System Utterly Broken"
Alt+SysRq+
R: Switch the keyboard from raw mode to XLATE mode
E: Send the SIGTERM signal to all processes except init
I: Send the SIGKILL signal to all processes except init
S: Sync all mounted filesystems
U: Remount all mounted filesystems in read-only mode
B: Immediately reboot the system, without unmounting partitions or syncing - Sharik, on 01/22/2009, -4/+16and I, good sir, like turtles.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+10We should bury the trolls.
- jakem1, on 01/22/2009, -0/+8A pretty good list - especially the keyboard shortcuts. However, I'd recommend against bringing back the Quicklaunch bar or sending icons to the system tray by setting their applications to Vista compatibility. This functionality has now been deprecated and it makes more sense to get used to the new way of doing things. Its unlikely that you'll be able to do these things by the time Windows 7's successor is released.
- Premier, on 01/22/2009, -0/+7"Instead of right-clicking a Taskbar icon to access its Jump List you can hold left-click and drag upwards to smoothly call it up"
Very Nice! - XIUgraag, on 01/22/2009, -1/+8It's back to 3: Home, Professional, Ultimate
- ClevelandBrown, on 01/22/2009, -0/+7You haven't even tried Windows 7 have you?
- IamNomad, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6im pretty sure this doesn't qualify as a secret.
- paidhima, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5You're so cute! You're like an old man pissed at the whole world. You know the one. He's the guy that gets called "cantankerous" or a "curmudgeon". Keep on tilting at windmills and ghosts and leave the serious commentary to those that have a clue as to what they're talking about.
- tattokris, on 01/22/2009, -3/+8I use Linux, OsX, XP and Vista. Windows 7 is looking very promising. Now if they will just give up on releasing 20 different versions maybe we will have a real winner.
- illDecree, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5No he hasn't.
I made it easy for you upick:

do you want me to mail you a blank DVD? - DiggzDE, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5Are the turtles also teenagers, mutants, and ninjas?!
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+5Home = What 99% of people need, Media Centre and streaming capabilities
Professional/Business = Ability to join domains, BitLocker drive security, Volume Shadow Copy, slightly different license (regarding virtual machines), sold to corporations
Ultimate = Home+Business features in one (plus some useless 'extras')
Why would they change this? It works perfectly, I don't want or need Business features so I stick with Home Premium. Ultimate has a lot more running services and can needlessly slow things down if you're not using them. Of course, it costs a lot more, so again, why one version?
This is essentially the same modelling that Vista has, bar for Home Basic which practically no OEMs use these days.
And Vista is cheaper than XP, even at launch. Vista Home Premium = $135 AUD ($89 USD) for the OEM install. How on earth is that expensive when you consider what you're getting? These have been the same prices since launch, so there is no reason why Windows 7 Home Premium should be any dearer.
Finally, why do Microsoft need to make Windows 7 run 'great' on lowly spec hardware? They need to optimise it for the dual-core and quad-core machines of now and the future to ensure Windows can take advantage of the speed increases. If you're running lowly spec'd hardware, then you keep using Windows XP. Even the cheapest, nastiest dual core on the market today will run Windows 7 fine. Why would you expect a new OS to run well on ancient hardware? Does not compute. - MickJT, on 01/22/2009, -2/+6Only 20? Every single one = just 20?

At least 188 there. - LimeParrot, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Damn, I'm a noob then!
- Smegzor, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4You won't unless you use linux. That short cut is real.
I'm over simplifying it a bit. Each letter does a different job. - ConfusedCartman, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4You should actually *try* the software before you form an opinion. You just sound like an idiot.
- Smegzor, on 01/22/2009, -3/+7Thats not a short cut. Now THIS is a short cut; control + alt + print screen + r + e + i + s + u + b
- trollick, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4I'm sorry to hear that.
- xdarkfluxx, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4If you would look on the other pages you will find there are in fact tweaks and tips, not just shortcuts.
- Echomote, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4Microsoft clearly added it for touchscreen users, a quick swipe up from an icon.
- danger127, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4I love Windows 7
- mediaphile, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4That's why it's titled "Tweaks and Tips". The keyboard shortcuts are just tips. Some of the other pages cover tweaks.
- ConfusedCartman, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3- Many people are using it
- It's the best Microsoft operating system to date (and it has the potential, once out of beta, to best both Linux and Mac)
- There's a ton of interest, and thus, more clicks for the authoring website
- I had no idea that I could calibrate my monitor so easily until I read this article. There's some "point" for you.
@jakem1: Not yet, but once Windows 7 officially releases, that will be true. Dugg up anyway because it made me laugh. - sageerrant, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Funny you should say that: the Windows 7 beta is the reason I switched to Linux... and then back to Windows 7, and dropped Vista altogether. Passed by Windows XP SP3 on the way, too.
And now I'm going to reinstall Ubuntu just to have the option at boot-up.
...I really screwed up my computer recently, but I came out of it with a nice clean install, a reminder to back up data, and a new perspective on Linux. Net gain, I say. - mattsull, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3whats it do?
- jakem1, on 01/22/2009, -1/+4There are more Windows 7 Beta users than Mac users so why not list some cool new features that will make life easier?
- GeeZuZz, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Why would they make an awesome website for a product that is very far from finished? It will change when it's nearing release.
And btw, Microsoft appearantly have hired a lot of web designers, cause many of their new web sites are very nice, and written in valid XHTML! - mattvogt, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3Just for Obobo:

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/dock-and-wi ... - passedoutghost, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3It's an open beta isn't it?
- dechah, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3This is not a keyboard shortcut, but I like the mouse shortcut to minimise all other open windows by hovering over the windows title bar you wish to remain open, holding down the left mouse key on it and shaking the mouse. this causes all other open windows to minimise to the taskbar. I don't know why I like it so much, maybe it's because the hand action to achieve it mimics another hand action that I enjoy from time to time. :-)
Holding shift while you shake causes the minimised screens to reappear - NinjaBull, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Yep, it's a feature quite obviously for touch but I like doing it with my mouse for some reason. Does that make me weird?
- NinjaBull, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Awesome! I was wondering how to change library icons
- ConfusedCartman, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3You haven't even tried it. I can tell, because you are spewing the same ***** as every other Microsoft hater. You could at least try to be original.
- NinjaBull, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Weird mine only has a windows key in between Alt and Fn on the left side of the keyboard. (Fn is the function key for my laptop)
- inactive, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2*****, you guys didn't give me a fake answer and then call me retarded.
aww.
thanks!! :D - inactive, on 01/22/2009, -2/+4I don't get it.
- tito13kfm, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2I thought it was Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring.
- LimeParrot, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3Hey cool, [Windows + E] works with Vista! (try it)
- antdude, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1One print page: http://www.maximumpc.com/print/4973
- tattokris, on 01/25/2009, -1/+2http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/25/multiple-window ...
- izerop, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Very nice, thanks for the comment.
- xerigen, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2As a person who hates using the mouse and knows just about every keyboard command to any program that I use regularly, these keyboard commands are absolutely excellent. Now if every program just had a command line in addition to keyboard shortcuts instead of stupid menus and palettes.
- mdman, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I dont know if I would call keyboard shortcuts tweaks.... what are you tweaking?
- svivian, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Using Windows+P defeats the point of keyboard shortcuts - the ability to use one hand, while the other is on the mouse (or somewhere else...)
- Ev3nt372, on 01/22/2009, -1/+2I don't understand why remote desktop is locked out of every version of Vista other than Ultimate and Business. This is a very useful feature that can be used by anyone to access files at home via a VPN like Hamachi. I will be not care about versions if Microsoft just puts RDP on every one. It helps a lot when you are fixing someone's PC.
