- tweaQslug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Azureus now has a distributed, decentralised database that can be used to track decentralised torrents. This permits both "trackerless" torrents and the maintenance of swarms where the tracker has become unavailable or where the torrent was removed from the tracker."
This is HUGE. If they add the ability to search this decentralized DB: we will have Exeem, with a larger user base, no bloatware, and top-notch client that works on most OSes. - reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use bittornado.
- craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've already got the update from erlier today, and it's been working well.
- stevey5036, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0azureus is the best hands down.
- MistaRip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bitcomet is definitely the best
http://www.bitcomet.com - logost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bitcomet for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003
- PhAdE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using BitSpirit. It's fast, and I like how it's got Upnp built in. I know by using it I'm probably opening a nice big hole in my network, but I have a lot of computers and nothing to hide, and I'm far too lazy to set up port forwarding for all of my systems. I used to swear by azeurus, but for some reason every time I use a java program, I get the strong urge to format just to ensure it's not still on my system, after it eats 100 megs of ram trying to start up and download 2 things. Did they ever fix the stupid memory leak the older versions had?
- manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to use torrentstorm - now THAT's a resource hog (I loved having three torrents going and watching my free RAM gauge slowly hit the red 50 MB mark). Azareus isn't nearly as bad and like jonboy said it'll work on anything - I use it on my mac and my PC, and it's froggie icon is so cute!
- jono181, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh snap. i've been waiting for this since forever.
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's exactly what happened, I thought I was on java 1.5 but come to find out, it as a version of 1.4. Upgrading to 1.5 did the trick and now it's running great. I really think this is a great bittorrent client, and REALLY great in that it does the RSS feed thing.
- nxtw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you use Windows, you really should try BitComet. It's extremely more resource friendly than Azureus -- most importantly, it doesn't use NEARLY the amount of CPU time as Azureus.
Note -- some other clients, including BitSpirit and possibly BitLord, are based on the BitComet codebase. - Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am i the only one who uses shareaza? I like the interface better then azures, and havent noticed it being a resource hog. Should be mentioned all i really do it surf the web, do some light image editing, and listen to music.
- FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I don't see how a Java client could handle torrents well.
I was using Shareaza for a while for mine, but the longer you leave it open, it seems the slower the entire machine gets. I also didn't like how it had to move the file to the download location once it was done (which almost brought my machine to a halt). So I went and got the plain client from bittorrent.com, and it seems they've given it some decent features from the last time I tried it, such as saving the .torrents and allowing multiple ones to run at a time. I can't minimize to the tray, but it does everything else I need, and doesn't kill my machine. - cd_RW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wanna see a poll of what most users think is the best client because i know in most cases, its purely opinion based. i use bittornado personally, but im looking to get another one.
- valan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0java's a real hog, I much prefer BitComet www.bitcomet.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shareaza is *****. It doesn't follow ratios at all. And the long-since bug in it is that when a torrent is done downloading, it stops uploading. Shareaza is a KaZaa clone. Use an actual BT client like Azureus instead of something that just uses/not really uses the BT protocol.
- manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aww, I can't help meeself, the frog is really cute! I tried bitcomet today - it really is better, though. Goodbye, waste of system resources! If only they ported to OS X and Linux...
- mattjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think he meant it's the best bittorrent client for him. :) I find it's the best for me too, can't get into bitcomet.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not sure how you can say it is the "best bit torrent client". Can you back that up?
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is the best program check out my azureus tracker http://torrent.sahaskatta.com:6969 or http://torrent.sahaskatta.com for more details
- maicowchoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BitComet for me. :)
- hardcle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lorderunion, you're way off base on shareaza. I've uploaded for as long as 5 days after completing a torrent download. I normally upload to 150% without problems. It is also not a kazaa clone. Shareaza is free and open source. Kazaa is proprietary and full of spyware. Shareaza doesn't even work with Kazaa's network. Where do you get this?
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0funny thing is, I just switched to azaurus yesterday... and it's already got an update!
but it is really the best - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just installed Azaurus and let me say, it's nice looking and gives tons of information...but it's Ssssssssssslllllllllllllooooooooowwwwwww in downloading anything. I did a test between Bittornado and Azaurus with a file that was around 175 megs. Bittornado had it downloaded and was happly uploading for others to share while Azaurus was still negotiating how it was going to download it. I had the port open that it asked for, so it wasn't a problem with that...it just didn't seem to want to download anything even though the icon was green and said that the download was going fine. I only got about 1.75Kb downloaded with it while Bittornado could have downloaded the file 4 times by then. Too slow. Not sure if I'm setting something wrong or what, but what more can I set out of the box except the port it wants? And if it's saying that the NAT is fine and green, should I assume it's lying?
Really wished it worked better, but it's a dog so far. - jonboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you have to make sure that you have the new version of java installed 1.5 (5.0).
- dmron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow I'm surprised to hear not one person uses ABC?? I love ABC - it's based on Bit Tornado core but the interface is only about 5 billion times better. I dont understand how you would want to use a client where each torrent opens up a new window??? That's so like 2003.
- BradMurray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've never noticed it eating up system resources, but it's the only client I know of that filters an RSS feed. I use it as my PC-based DVR and shows are always downloaded by the next morning at the latest. I usually stay away from java-based apps, but this is hands down the best I've ever seen (java app or BT client).
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used Azureus before. It has features and is customizable in ways that other clients aren't but it eats your system resources like a rabid beast. BitComet works just as well even if its not as tweakable.
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol manfesto, you sound like a little schoolgirl when you say that last bit: "it's froggie icon is so cute!"
i personally am an azureus fan; based on personal experience ive found that azureus manages to max out my bandwidth. i didnt even know my dsl connection could go past 150 kb/s til azureus. my only beef with it is the fact that java is a resource hog: sometimes i see java's cpu usage nearly max out at ~50% while my folding@home is also holding steady at ~50%.
