- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18OH MY GOD!
I was worried for awhile, because we almost went a full day without yet another Firefox extensions list on Digg!
*phew!* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Can't they package it with about 20 extensions that make sense and have the installation take care of everything? Who has time to chase all those extesnsions up?
- jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's because myspace was coded by a 12 year old downs syndrome child.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It is a nice extension, but it is on Mozilla's list of extensions that cause memory leaks.
- jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Except for the fact it's just an IE shell, and has all the security and rendering problems IE does.
- ebob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Don't be this guy. http://splasho.com/blog/wp-content/pic.html
- muyuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Exactly. It would be nice to have FF "distros"
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I put together the list of extensions that hurt your Firefox memory usage, or have memory leaks, for those people that were requesting it:
http://digg.com/software/Reducing_Your_Firefox_Memory_Usage_--_Which_Extensions_Hog_Your_Memory - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The only time Firefox crashes for me is when I'm on MySpace. I have 6 extensions installed that don't give me many problems.
MySpace, though, just drives this thing crazy. - stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Looking forward to the Digg article on the top ten Digg articles on the top ten plugins for Firefox - it'll probably come right below a dupe article on Ajax or a cool article that refers to a blog where someone tells you how to remove scratches from CDs using only a toothpick and laser printer toner.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maxthon "is based on the Internet Explorer browser engine...." Sure, it adds tabs and some other crap, but it's like putting a dress on a pig. Or trying to polish a turd. I'll take Firefox or even Opera any day, thanks.
- dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The openselectedlinks extension can open a set of hundreds of links into hundreds of tabs simultaneously, which is great for browsing p^Hdocumentation.
- Rob5246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like that ZAP button a lot.
- UnlivedPhalanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fasterfox does cause significant memory useage, but this was a very helpful article.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I found this hugely helpful, because while I do play around with Firefox extensions, this article is more about how to think about the extensions one wants and one has. The recommendation to actually remove some extensions sounds pretty helpful, although I actually want to get going with Performancing.
Mozilla, at their site, recommends particular extensions, and that link should be presented in tandem, I think, with this article. - wax0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's cool. Turns FireFox into something ever better.....
- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Opera is actually a good choice, but as I am a Linux user, I wouldn't recommend it. The only reason is that it's too dificult for someone new to Linux to install Opera's plugins for Flash, Mplayer and such.
- hometoast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mvprj84: Is there a link to that list? I did not know that. (removing it now)
- jaydee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1found the extension to do this .. its called sessionsaver and is very handy
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=436 - brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fasterfox not only loads your page faster, it DIGG's/Slashdot's websites faster! Joy!
- jaydee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1***** no wonder I still got leaks.. thought it was just FF being crap.. damm good extension though, think i'll put up with them and keep killing FF from tsk man
- Discourses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Google Web accelerator. It seems to do a better job than FasterFox. Although it does use 15 mb of memory.
- muyuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I recommend using both. I'd love not having to restart FF every now and then, but many pages that are flaky under Opera (not Opera's fault most of the time but anyway) work just fine under FF. Opera also has this session saving feature by default, gestures by default, etc etc.
Hell, having different icons in the task bars helps me "dividing" the pages I'm viewing in my tabs :D - basvd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good article.
I particularly found the "Back-Forward cache" and "FireTune" suggestions useful. - namit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Very very helpfull
- KiltedMile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha, nice google ads! Bet he's making a fortune!!
- jaydee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anyone know where I can find an extension to save tabbed sessions? I used to use Avant browser before FF and that was an ace feature that I really miss.
- molgar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No need to install an extension to avoid PDF documents from opening in a firefox tab. This can be achieved by editing the Adobe Acrobat Reader prerences, under the Internet section.
Or you can even get rid of Adobe Acrobar Reader, and use Foxit Reader instead, which doesn't load inside firefox. - sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fasterfox caused all sorts of problems for me. It was messing up sites. I had to remove it.
- wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahah... subtle
- Rob5246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like my sister's computer when she kept wondering why it ran so slow. Except her's was IE.
- yushi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could try using the crash recovery extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Tabbed%20Browsing&numpg=10&id=1955
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MY EYES !!!!!!
- johnpthomas278, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Sessionsaver,Flash Block and FireTune are some very useful FireFox Extensions.
Must-Have Firefox Extensions:
http://digg.com/links/Must-have_Extensions_for_Firefox - artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very helpful indeed, it helps to create a balance between customization and performance. DIGG.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fasterfox's most useful tool? The page-load timer. I couldn't care less that it speeds up page loading, I just like seeing how long pages take to load!
- cibby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you, my friend! Just set my Back cache to store zero pages! Fan-smack-tic!
Great hints...! - martinus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Fasterfox is for the most part a placebo extension."
I thought that myself, but then I measured it. It really sped up things, some sites are delivered almost twice as fast. - goodnewsevery1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You simply must have the Spellbound extension. Certainly solve the spelling problems on lots of postings
Spell Bound

Modified to work with 1.5
http://www.cantoni.org/2006/02/18/spellbound - 4answer2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How do I delete some entries in the about:config from Firefox extensions that I have uninstalled?
- parranormal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1HappyProgramer says:I was a loyal Firefox and then the memory leak problems in Firefox drove me away to Opera. I am not
looking back.
You do realize that you can fix the memory leak by changing the settings so that the cache doesnt store any data. - jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fasterfox is for the most part a placebo extension.
- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Correct! LMAO
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is a "Firefox Distro". The developers like to call it "Flock". And you should feel free to make one yourself, if you cared enough.
- CoolWind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Very nice article.
- eyesx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+150 Best Firefox Extensions
http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2005/12/50-best-firefox-extensions-for-power-surfing/ - dadfist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2holy ***** *****!
- coolmojito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Only problem with having lots of extensions is that firefox crashes a lot. I've removed most and it's better and still crashes. Am almost tempted to get rid of all and keep it clean. Almost.
- anonymonk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Dood, yous spell great, but yous need a grammar extension for your post.
- silverstrike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yea, I don't think its that big of a deal. Fasterfox doesn't really "do" anything, it simply provides a nice GUI for editing the about:config page. (Go ahead, put that in your URL box and hit enter)
