- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28I really hope this site doesn't go down, as that will only increase the amount of people saying WordPress sucks. I love WordPress and use it on a few of my sites and they never have problems.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -15/+40Wordpress is nice, yes, but should def. come with a warning:
WARNING: If you choose to use WordPress, please avoid writing anything important or remotely interesting. As soon as it hits digg, your site will ***** itself. - euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Actually, isn't writing interesting and important things a surefire way to stay off of Digg?

We are well capable of handling Diggs. Our cluster gets multiple Diggs per day. The site is fine. Thanks for the Diggs
Your server would seem to disagree. - chubbymidget, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18#11 "Unable to connect to database" means you've had more than 10 visitors!
- stewartgorman, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20#11) Still vulnerable to the Digg effect
- BrettTheUser, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13It's at 62 diggs and it won't load for me.
- joeleslie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Site's down.
Oh, the irony. - Yez70, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Ok, so the cluster just decided to take a nap?
Site's down.
http://duggmirror.com - AndyVenus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9That's right. Wordpress doesn't kill websites it's the server. Wordpress just can't connect to the database.
- darkzealot89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9You better check your "cluster", because I think it got owned.
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9How is basic HTML similar to the dynamic abilities of PHP?
- mucnix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Too late.
In all fairness though, it probably has something to do with the hosting too. - sd12013, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8"Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at db1. This could mean your host's database server is down."
Oopsie! Awkward... - rivalius13, on 10/10/2007, -7/+14Link's down. Pretty accurate article on Wordpress then.
- corde5, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10It's dead, Jim.
- Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Wordpress is quite efficient, the problem is that it is run frequently on slow servers that cannot handle high amounts of traffic.
- jgerland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think it's more of the fact that you can install wordpress yourself on a mom-and-pop hosting server, and they're the ones that can't handle the load. It happened to a friend of mine just this morning, a site he hosted got dugg and bam, down instantly.
Bashing wordpress is one thing, but it's free. It's the hosting that people can't afford to prevent digging. - Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4it runs just fine under load (especially with wp-cache). The reason so many wordpress sites go down when they are dugg is because they are running on slow servers that can't handle the load
- Double-Z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Great, there will be a new default wordpress error page to look at every time some crappy blog hits the front page.
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I've been dugg numerous times with Wordpress and it has been rock solid.
Use WP-Cache which helps a ton and then, if I have a ton of images, I use my Flickr Pro account to take that load off the server. A good hosting account is the key - preppeller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Its worth pointing out that blog.digg.com is a wordpress blog and has been dugg many many times without failing.
- HaggisMac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Yeah, that's great. Make a broad generalization without showing any proof.
I've been a web developer for going on ten years now, and use and recommend WordPress to anyone that asks for a decent, free, easy to use CMS system. I don't use the pre-made templates, I hand code all mine in Notepad or Visual Studio 2005.
That sound like someone who is too lazy or stupid to use basic HTML? I could CSS code circles around you, ya friggin troll. - vonskippy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That and a "Wall of Shame" for piss poor hosting services - lets get a list together and either Darwin will win (people will wise up and stop giving them money) or the lame hosts will actually work at not being so lame. Either way it's a WIN.
- bmson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Do you know what Wordpress is?
it's a CMS you should still design and HTML (CSS) your site an use Wordpress (I prefer Jaws cms) to manage your web - depi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Wordpress error :( But anyway thanks!
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's dead to me. I've been loading the page for about ten minutes, and NOTHING has shown up yet.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It depends. Does it involve Apple, Ron Paul, Ubuntu, Tasers, or Bill O'Reilly? Then it's dugg, interesting or not.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Sorry, my uninformed moronic comment was based on my experience with WordPress and Digg, wherein EVERY wordpress-hosted site I've seen here has crashed under the load. Granted, I haven't looked at every WP article ever dug, but I've seen plenty, and it's been reliably unreliable.
- TheKorn2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Where there's smoke, there's fire. Nine out of ten times a page fails to load off of Digg, it's using wordpress.
- xxdesmus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Not even remotely close to true.
Use WP-Cache and you'll handle Digg just fine. Thanks for the uninformed moronic comment though. - MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2whats irony?
- reivax76, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Ugh, it's down. Makes me glad I don't have anything interesting to post on my WP site hehe.
- jizz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dugg it like douggy dougsen :))
- mtekk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Or its one of those, so easy to install that any idiot does and then fails to do things to keep things from crashing. Poorly written plug-ins can also cause problems, and there are quite a few of those floating around.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Is Digg-Induced-Crash listed?
- erinspice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Damn. I wrote my blog myself in a week, and it's withstood 10 times more diggs than this.
- foolswisdom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Maybe that's because nine and a half out of ten sites dug are running WordPress. Televari is right why is WordPress blamed?
http://live.gizmodo.com run on WordPress.com had over 2 million hits over a few hours, and still kept on trucking. - ohhoe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3@deviantsolution, greymatter still exists.
I like greymatter, but I like the plugin capability of wordpress and the availability of themes for it. Movable type *almost* has it, but as for now, wordpress owns.
And to everyone saying wordpress can't handle the digg effect, wordpress isn't the problem, it's the low hosting setup people generally have on their blogging sites, if they had enough bandwidth it wouldn't crash, duh. - FaroCastiglo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4You know, it *is* possible to use WordPress on your own server.
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's an ignorant way of putting things. Sites don't go down just because they're running WordPress.
- hansonc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://freshmeat.net/projects/greymatter/
It's still available but I'm assuming you won't actually use it. - Aaronontheweb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Right on. WP-Cache is the best defense against the Digg affect. In addition it also helps combat MySQL max-out issues.
- c_2_g, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am curious if he was using the WP-Cache plugin when the site when down. He is running the plugin now and the site seems to be loading fine. If you view the page's source, you will see that it says at the bottom of the code: Dynamic Page Served (once) in 0.627 seconds
- V1ncent, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's apple's rony
- Mohrba769, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thanks for putting this up it was very informative and helped me understand a crap load of stuff dealing with WordPress 2.3
- Frostfox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Too bad I can't read it. Guess I'll have to check back later.
- Roosevelt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Funny, my site has never crashed. Perhaps you need to check with your ISP?
- s0lidmetal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i thought it was renamed to coranto
