- AWBoy666, on 10/14/2009, -13/+109No true adblock, no care.
Shame really. Chrome is fast as heck. - sdphost, on 10/14/2009, -47/+141Use Chrome for a week, try to go to Firefox after that and you won't.
I tried it and no extension made FF worth using again. - GrammerPants, on 10/14/2009, -7/+71I used it for about a week solid. It's good but not a firefox replacement for me yet.
- Tddupre, on 10/14/2009, -5/+67get adblock on there and i'm sold, all the current ad blockers just don't cut it.
- taibo, on 10/14/2009, -4/+52Won't these make Chrome slower? The only reason I use Chrome is because it's so damn speedy. Plus I don't really have a need for any extensions.
- HackieWackie, on 10/14/2009, -2/+40Totally respect your perception. Not sure how it goes on a Mac but I'm loving Chrome since it was out.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/14/2009, -0/+33It's in the dev build:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/08/sync-goog ... - GrammerPants, on 10/14/2009, -2/+32Space getting tight on your 3 gig hard drive or something?
- lukas88, on 10/14/2009, -2/+31What would be nice is a way to synchronize bookmarks between different computers. I find it a little bizarre that they didn't build in synchronization with google bookmarks, seems like a no brainer.
- MorpheousMarty, on 10/14/2009, -2/+27I just need the add blocker. Which could make it faster if done right, it won't have to download and render adds.
- rushnerd, on 10/14/2009, -2/+26Ive been on Chrome exclusively since launch day and never looked back. It's only now that its really getting the attention and praise it deserves.
True it isn't bleeding with feature and addons like old' Firey, but for the love of god it just works, and very streamlined too. - cygnus2112, on 10/14/2009, -0/+21I'm a web developer. Can't do without Firebug, Developer Toolbar, etc which makes my job easier.
Sorry Chrome. - Rev0lver, on 10/14/2009, -1/+15The Mac version is still in early beta stages. You had to have known that when you downloaded it because it's not available on the normal chrome download page.
- mason092, on 10/14/2009, -1/+14What are you talking about? It never bothers me when it needs to block ads.
- CaseMonster, on 10/14/2009, -6/+17Yeah but it still won't remember my F#@!$%G zoom level.
.... still using FF. - ScubaSt3ve, on 10/14/2009, -2/+13So don't install any?
- lukas88, on 10/14/2009, -0/+11Awesome!
- WoollyMittens, on 10/14/2009, -0/+9That one leaves in ads that firefox' adblock seems to catch. Needs work.
- GusterBear, on 10/14/2009, -7/+15I love Chrome, use it almost exclusively. I actually like not having a bunch of add-ons. I got Chrome because I wanted a browser, not some thing I can then go and duck tape a bunch of other things to and call it good. The only thing it is really, truly lacking (as mentioned above) is sync with Google Bookmarks, and a port of it that can be run on a thumb drive with minimal loss of performance.
- RandomHugs, on 10/14/2009, -0/+8Hopefully this will eventually lead to the resurrection of Google Browser Sync. That fact that GBS didn't support FF3 was the only thing preventing me from upgrading from FF2. It wasn't until Google stopped supporting GBS completely that I made the switch.
- blackdice, on 10/14/2009, -2/+10Opera 10 still has my vote. Just add the following to tools->advanced->blocked content, install privoxy for a little extra support, and then you have successfully blocked the vast majority of ads out there:

- Metadrew, on 10/14/2009, -3/+10I used it for quite a while, but switched back because I needed greasemonkey, now there is an addon for that in Chrome but I don't really care to switch.
- krc1, on 10/14/2009, -0/+7"confront"?
- wsoderberg, on 10/14/2009, -1/+8Not just as good.
- WoollyMittens, on 10/14/2009, -0/+7They only warn you about 26 times that it is an early beta before they let you download it.
- badqat, on 10/14/2009, -0/+7Indeed. That Is part of the reason I'm giving it plenty of benefit, and will continue to upgrade as they come about.
- aychseven, on 10/14/2009, -3/+9i use FF all day at work and a home and i think it's crashed one me maybe once in the last month or two. (but i'm on a mac in both places, and most of the crashing i've heard about is from windows users so maybe that's why.)
right now i have 10 tabs open and it's consuming about 155mb ram so i'm not too sure about your bloated comment either. - OaklandNative, on 10/14/2009, -0/+6I don't get this mentality. Isn't the main benefit of adblock that it speeds up your loading times because it doesn't have to load the ads? If Chrome lodes faster than FF, even displaying ads, what's the problem? Plus with ads you're supporting the content you enjoy. I guess w/out adblock you still get some pop-ups sometimes in Chrome. If it would 100% block pop ups while leaving the embedded ads where they were, I'd be more than happy with it.
Note: I do use adblock in FF but mostly don't mind not having it in Chrome.
EDIT: I just noticed DBeta's comment above re: "It can depend largely on your available screenspace. On my netbook I have to use an adblocker or most websites have to be scrolled down a page before any real content is shown, even with the browser full screened." Hmm... good point. - MAGZine, on 10/14/2009, -1/+7I have an extension 'adblock+' that subscribes to ADP's ad block lists on Chrome.
- cygnus2112, on 10/14/2009, -0/+527.
- proverbs17, on 10/14/2009, -0/+5First of all, no matter which browser is your favorite, at least there is more then one! Competition is good.
I'm glad to see extensions for Chrome. I still mainly use FF because of the Web Developer extension, but I like Chrome. - utinam, on 10/14/2009, -1/+6Firebug and LJlogin are tying me to FF--not that I mind so much. I see no speed difference between my browsers (other than startup time--FF is quite slow, and Chrome starts up so nice and fast) and have never had issues with security or bugginess (only switched to FF from IE because a friend showed me some really useful extensions). Chrome's nice, and I like the layout. But a Chrome-skinned FF is even better at the moment.
- FutureGuy, on 10/14/2009, -0/+4For some reason I think Google is not too thrilled about having adblock on chrome. Google wasn't very happy with Firefox website recommending AdBlock.
- Philogos, on 10/14/2009, -0/+4http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
blocks all ads but does not update automatically.
also blocks ads between video clips on sites like comedycentral.com - GusterBear, on 10/14/2009, -6/+10Indeed. I only go into Firefox when I absolutly need another browser and I don't want to bow to IE. Other than that though, I stick with Chrome. It is much, much cleaner and faster.
- ObeseSnake, on 10/14/2009, -0/+4Sounds like you are doing it wrong.
- bratterscain, on 10/14/2009, -0/+4Yo dawg!
- ApolloImBurning, on 10/14/2009, -0/+4Was hoping to see something like linkification - sadly no
- javaroast, on 10/14/2009, -1/+4Adsweep has a new maintainer and is back in business. No offense to mark8t, but I'm not really interested in adblocking from a SEO Blog that has a story on working around adblockers.
From Adsweep homepage:
"New update: Since the last owner decided to not continue the project, I, arienh4 am taking over. Any requests will now continue to try to be fulfilled. See the Twitter account for updates." - roxgod666, on 10/14/2009, -1/+4Firefox is the slowest, most resource intensive and bloated browser out of Chrome, Safari, Opera, and maybe even IE8. If it weren't for its extensions, Firefox would ***** suck. Chrome is awesome even without extensions. FF is also the only browser that SIGNIFICANTLY drops in performance the longer you use it.
- Galphanore, on 10/15/2009, -0/+3And it's great.
- gren99, on 10/14/2009, -5/+8i used it for several months, went back to firefox because the whole netflix instant view thing was driving me bonkers, went back to chrome the moent i was able to resolve the instant view.
with firefox, i have the same problems every time -- by the time i add the multitude of extensions that makes the browser worth using, it becomes so cumbersome so as to just not be worth using, period.
chrome, even with a few extensions like lastpass and xmarks, really hasn't lost its zip. - DBeta, on 10/14/2009, -0/+3It can depend largely on your available screenspace. On my netbook I have to use an adblocker or most websites have to be scrolled down a page before any real content is shown, even with the browser full screened. That said, adsweep works great for Chrome and my only issue is that there isn't any GUI management of it for things like whitelists and adding objects.
- flyzipper, on 10/14/2009, -2/+5delicious.com
- Rev0lver, on 10/14/2009, -0/+3The biggest advantage it has is its sheer speed. Loads up faster than Firefox and Safari ever have for me. I used it on my Mac for about a month, but I was having a decent amount of stability issues and problems with bookmarks.
I loved it when it was working though. I'll definitely make it my mainstay browser when a more stable version comes out. I'll stick with Firefox until then. - FrancisHC, on 10/14/2009, -0/+2This isn't working real well for me. I installed the dev channel version of chrome to give these extensions a go.
Adsweep installs, but as far as I can tell, does nothing. Even the sample web page/"you won a million dollars!" banner still shows up for me.
The WOT link just takes me to a Firefox addon download, with no apparent chrome option.
The Bubble Translate addon seems to work though. - utinam, on 10/15/2009, -0/+2Gotta admit that's one of the things I really like about Chrome and would love to see other browsers adopt: giving me more screen real estate.
- BabySinister, on 10/14/2009, -0/+2i use chrome as a browser to quickly look at my inbox and to open links send to me via IM.
the lack of extensions is actually what is keeping me from switching completely, so this news is good!
i also dont like the way chrome zooms in, since im relatively far away from my monitor i simply cannot read text at the regular zoomlevel, and for some reason chrome's zoom function isnt as good as FF3's. - SeanCallan, on 10/14/2009, -1/+3I love Chrome on Mac! It's just faster than the competition, no debate about it. I have, for some time, hated Firefox regardless of OS - it's bloated and it takes 10X as long as Chrome to open up and load a page.
Safari on Windows isn't particularly great but it's a huge improvement on the Mac. For the majority of my browsing I had originally used Safari exclusively but since I was able to get Chrome I rarely go back. Chrome does have its issues, but it has already been said: it's beta. -
