football is serious business :| - Sewermutt, on 10/18/2009, -3/+60HAH omg I laughed so hard at that. Poor kid is going to get his ass kicked in school for years (if he survives that long).
- WhoDoneIt, on 10/18/2009, -6/+44I don't follow football (soccer) at all, but if every other sport something like this happened, they would have blown the whistle and ruled out a goal.
I don't get it?
What would be so wrong by eliminating it as a goal and having a corner kick, or something like that? - Palodin, on 10/18/2009, -1/+33Depressingly, someone will probably try and do something to him. I live in Liverpool and there are a lot of idiots here who take the sport way too seriously.
- ggggbabybabybab, on 10/18/2009, -2/+29He should be thanking his lucky stars he wasn't in Columbia, we would be reading a story about how a fan was murdered instead.
- Enderplayer1, on 10/18/2009, -0/+19I hear Steve Bartman has some extra room at his secret hiding place.
- wdw25, on 10/18/2009, -1/+20Where can I reply to entrepreneur75's comment?
- harvinator24, on 10/18/2009, -2/+19Yeah, you seem very mature. Hoping a little child gets his head get kicked in because you team lost a soccer game.
- brandnewx, on 10/18/2009, -1/+18Football article made it to digg? Priceless.
- moo113, on 10/18/2009, -0/+16Otherwise fans could abuse rulings like that by frequently littering the field. In football, fields get covered all the time, especially with TP.
- JeremyK684, on 10/18/2009, -1/+17I think they should thank the fan. That was the most exciting part of the game tbh.
- evilesttoast, on 10/18/2009, -0/+14On the site?
- WhoDoneIt, on 10/18/2009, -0/+1215 minutes of fame?!?
- newms32, on 10/18/2009, -0/+11Why the ***** can't someone code a flash video player that can seek properly? Is it really that tough? The icing on the cake comes when the seek bar vanishes right when you're about to click on it. ***** hell.
- sinisterouge, on 10/18/2009, -1/+12it's called a replay...
- ThraxyWaxy, on 10/18/2009, -2/+11They were missing Gerrard and Torres, their only two players I know by name, so clearly none of their remaining players had any talent.
- Skootles, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9*There
- Gorgonzola44, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9The lesson of the week: Stay the hell away from balloons.
- dhughes, on 10/18/2009, -0/+9 The opposite is true then too, fans abuse the fact the game is not stopped when debris is thrown onto the field trying to disrupt the match.
- mnortei, on 10/18/2009, -2/+10In Europe they riot, win or lose. Srs bizness
- reticulate, on 10/18/2009, -0/+8The ball was obviously interfered with, but if it all happened so quick that neither the ref or a linesman sees it, then it can't be called a no-goal later on. Sunderland's manager actually said as much after the game - the ball was interfered, and play should have been restarted with a drop ball. Liverpool's manager pretty much disregarded it and suggested his team wasn't playing well anyway.
It's important to point out that the ref is not using a live-feed of the game to make judgements but what he actually sees in the course of play, so stuff like this can happen.
Unfortunate, freaky and doubly unlucky for Liverpool. - Hardflip, on 10/18/2009, -2/+9Play *was* supposed to be stopped as soon as it touched the balloon. Referee got it wrong.
- madnoh, on 10/18/2009, -1/+8Why blame the kid? The ref was at fault, it shouldn't have been a goal.
- chrisbradley87, on 10/18/2009, -0/+7Go to a Roma game as an away fan and then we'll talk. Or go to a local derby in South America, or eastern Europe. Or look at what idiotic Rangers fans did to Manchester recently. English fans used to be the worst but these days are much better behaved.
- heliumflash, on 10/18/2009, -1/+7No one was talking about that....
- Hrodrik, on 10/18/2009, -3/+9In the US everyone is ignorant. Srs bizness.
- PointGiven, on 10/18/2009, -0/+6*crickets*
- sinisterouge, on 10/18/2009, -0/+6Yoda not are you...
- pyg13, on 10/18/2009, -4/+9We are a long way from the end. To imply one game will cost the title is ridiculous. I do think, however, that Liverpool are suspect in defense this year, and that may well be their undoing. I must also point to my general disgust at the over-the-top ManU fags ... errrr fans [Sorry. My typing skills need polishing.] BTW - I am NOT a Liverpool fan [except for Torres - he is such a joy to watch!]
- MrSteamTank, on 10/18/2009, -2/+6Colombia. Their are like 100 Columbia's and none are located in Latin America. 8P
- nouman1989, on 10/18/2009, -1/+5no they are not
- brandnewx, on 10/18/2009, -2/+5That isn't fair to Liverpool at all. Ref should have blown the whistle and got the red ball out first.
- slothlikescake, on 10/18/2009, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTW1k-2KlkE
He'll be dead within a week :(
RIP Balloon kid! - heliumflash, on 10/18/2009, -1/+4What a stupid kid.
- adeelarshad82, on 10/18/2009, -3/+6GUNNERS for life
- Ellsass, on 10/18/2009, -1/+4Green Street. And that's West Ham United (with rivals Millwall). The scousers have their own brand of retaliation (they'll rob the kid's house while he's out of town, then steal his parents' hubcaps for good measure).
- stuffradio, on 10/18/2009, -0/+3On the site?
- errik03, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2have you ever opened up a Sun newspaper? they have neked chiks on them!
- Webbster, on 10/18/2009, -3/+5Buried because of the link to the Scummy Sun article.
- neopran, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2HAHA good one:P
- SomeRandomGuy, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2It's really not the rules that cause people not to throw stuff onto the field, it's the very real threat of imminent jail time for people who chuck stuff onto the court.
- KoreyWith1K, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Do you honestly think that Pepe Reina had the time to notice both balls on the field, take note that one was a red beach ball and the other was the match ball, see that the match ball was taking a deflection off of the beach ball, see in which direction the match ball was deflecting, and think about saving the match ball?
I think it is you, my friend, who is the twit. - superkeer, on 10/18/2009, -6/+8Glory is not glory when it's mostly sheer luck. Man U has really scraped by quite a number of times this year.
Gunners are going to lay another drubbing on them later this season, and this time get the result they more than deserved the first time. - sgtbutterscotch, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Don't who that is but those facial expressions were hilarious. Also, can we not use tinypic?
- cleric04, on 10/18/2009, -1/+3It was a mix of reserve team and bench players mostly.
- Rabbethan, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2In Major League Baseball, it's a "dead ball" on Fan Interference. In the NHL, the whistle is blown and a Delay of Game might be called on the home team. The NFL has a rule against it but I don't know what the penalty or repercussions come from it.
- TommyMiles, on 10/25/2009, -0/+2***** the Sun. No LFC supporter would ever buy that rag (and they know it), which is why they publish abuse towards the club and their supporters.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillsborough_Disaster ...
And Especially: http://www.anfieldroad.com/dont-buy-the-sun/
"There is no excuse for buying or reading The Sun. None whatsoever. If you read that newspaper, or worse still you buy that newspaper, after reading this article and those other articles that are linked to, then you are not fit to call yourself a Red. If you support another team, you should still be able to see why that newspaper should be boycotted."
And http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=65452949561 - JohnnySoftware, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1Pretty sad when a game's spectators are bad enough sports to interfere with the game.
- stoooryteller, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1the child with the parents will have to immigrate to another country=)
- pyg13, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I agree that their chances are diminishingly small. Others would have to do poorly and Liverpool would have to make a significant turn-around. I think their weakness in defense is their largest problem. After this season, and if they do not get in Europe ... they might well have to sell Torres and or others to make ends meet on their large debt.
