He became a martyr for doing the right thing and not going along with corruption. - GVR90, on 01/06/2009, -1/+48There is a World Cup for Whistle Blowing?
- Primatelord, on 01/06/2009, -4/+34They must've been out of Red Cards....
- vtnerd, on 01/06/2009, -2/+24err what?
- thankyoupatrick, on 01/06/2009, -0/+20It wasn't over a game... it was over money.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+20Thats what publicly exposing mobsters will do.
- vaguilera, on 01/06/2009, -0/+15a game that makes hundreds of millions
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+15World Cup. Features all the countries in the world... just like the World Series!
- crackedlogic, on 01/06/2009, -1/+16that fell about 1000 feet short of making any sense whatsoever.
- astroslut, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14Actually, they just let us work in it.
- loconet, on 01/06/2009, -0/+13Why are people complaining about the sport.
This unfortunate event has little to do with the sport itself. There is a crap load of money involved in the next world cup. Try imagining a world-wide event 4x bigger than the super bowl or the world series in a country where pockets of corruption exist. There will be shady stuff going on regardless of the sport. - HappyScrappy, on 01/06/2009, -2/+15You don't go against big business. Remember, it's their world, they just let us live in it.
- IamJustinM, on 01/06/2009, -0/+12South Africa has no business hosting the 2010 world cup. Fifa should have moved it when they had a chance.
- CeruleanRed, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10I didn't realize the World Cup was so rough-and-tumble.
- gearhead364, on 01/06/2009, -0/+8This is heart breaking to hear, however unfortunate this is, hopefully it will spark an interest in this corruption. Whoever is responsible for this will be regretting it very soon.
- L0NER, on 01/06/2009, -0/+8Not a big fan of sports, but a big fan of human bravery for whatever cause.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -2/+9Wow, shot dead over soccer, and it wasn't even for an own-goal. That IS strange...
- Danltn, on 01/06/2009, -0/+7Holy crap, USA + Australia big football teams?... Go read up on your footy.
- oldhick, on 01/06/2009, -0/+7This really has very little to do with the World Cup.

"Mohlala was in the news about a year ago following reports that some African National Congress members wanted him sacked for blowing the whistle on a colleague, Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladla.
The local council investigated Dladla on a range of allegations, including the manipulation of tenders in 2010 construction contracts, harassment of council employees, and failure to keep the council updated on progress ahead of the Soccer World Cup, the Mail and Guardian newspaper reported last February." - ypSami, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6Thank god there are some tattle tales with courage.

- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5I learned how crazy Europeans are over soccer by watching "Green Street Hooligans"
Calm down man its just a freaking game.
Great movie tho. - HanSolo69, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Now that Deep Throat is dead there's hope that somebody else might actually have a chance to win this year.
- KnightofOrder, on 01/06/2009, -1/+6I hate to say it but now that he's dead and murdered I'm afraid there will be no one else to tackle the corruption. We'll see though.
- aweiksnar, on 01/06/2009, -4/+9It's disturbing to think that someone would go to such extremes over a game.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5It's big news in South Africa. News tends to not get out of the country. May have something to do with the government controlling the media (at least the SABC) or something.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+6I wonder who had something to gain from his death...hmmm.
- Kikinou, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Time to move the WC to England, the security situation in SA is gonna be ridiculous.
- djholybolt, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5what the ***** are you trying to say, man?!
- vbullinger, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Nope, this doesn't sound suspicious...
- rjey, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Are any black helicopters circling your house yet? If not, they are probably on the way.
- FishHammer, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Well they're obviously making big strides in ending the corruption.
- rationalcorr, on 01/06/2009, -3/+7It took me about 5 minutes to realize that whistle-blowing is not a sport, does not have a world cup, and sadly, is not competitive enough to warrant murder.
- groo68, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4I doubt they still have black helicopters. they probably cover the helicopters with lcds and make synthetic diamond roters for camouflage.
- Niubai, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5what ? best teams never made into the final ? 2006 / 2002 / 1998 / 1994 = France, Italy, Germany, Brazil made into finals. And USA and Australia as higher potential teams ? Don't you know nothing about the world cup or are you just trolling ? USA and Australia suck big time at football. I do agree that Australia was robbed against Italy in 2006, but that doesn't make them a team with "high potential". The big ones are always into the finals.
- groo68, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5your a martyr if you die fighting something others care about. and those other people will, upon the event of your death, get very mad and take action.
- pinchduck, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3This never happened with the Super Bowl site selection. I'm just sayin...
- birdman14, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4he looks like Randy Jackson from American Idol.
- rufus2, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I didn't know Elijah Wood starred in documentaries...
- ypSami, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4Sorry, HappyScrappy, but I feel that's a cowardly point-of-view. CEOs bleed like the rest of us, and it just takes 1 person with nothing to lose to show corrupted individuals that there are far more dangerous people out there than them.
They operate under an illusion of safety and protection. They have to come outside some time. - nmezib, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4yeah, and have the US team play (and lose) in EVERY GAME! That'll teach em!
- FredFredrickson, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3You've never heard of hooligans? Come on...
- loconet, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4@HappyScrappy.
Nice try but I know what I saw. That was a stealth edit after I submitted the reply. It seems like I wasn't the only one who saw that as well. - Mujokan, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Several Colombian soccer players killed over the past decade or so for losing. Apparently Saddam used to torture the Iraq team if they lost.
- groo68, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Games have been used throughout history to solve disputes to avoid or end war. not that the world cup is being used for that, but saying "It's just a game" isn't really and accurate assessment.
- Niubai, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Sorry for my grammar error. I do agree that Italy was slightly favored in 2006 (more against Australia than against USA, IMO), but that doesn't make USA and Australia higher potential teams ...
- duniyadnd, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3The corruption stemmed from the construction of a stadium. Not a pointless game. Money was involved which resulted in people who did not deserve it getting richer. You become a martyr because you fight against the corruption, whether it's from getting money illegally via the Stock Market, building a stadium, or walking your dog.
- HappyScrappy, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3The cows already run the industry. Do you think executives are a different race than the rest of us?
- HappyScrappy, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I dunno, I think most of the soccer experts expected the USA to do better than they did. No one expected the US to get beat by Ghana, and most would have expected the US to beat the Czech Republic too.
No one expected the US to do well in the overall, but finishing last in their group was entirely unexpected.
However, I don't see any cheating in this case. The US lost because the US was outplayed. That's why you play the games instead of just calculating a winner from past performance stats. -
