- SimplyPerfect, on 10/11/2009, -2/+38At the least the American's are actually in the WC. That's an accomplishment enough. Give them some credit
- BloodWenis, on 10/11/2009, -2/+32we need to have football fans before we can have hooligans
- lejake, on 10/11/2009, -0/+27This is awesome, the game was fantastic! I cannot wait for the World Cup, and I'm already setting up arrangements to make sure I'm in Brazil in 2014.
- MattBD, on 10/11/2009, -5/+27Cue lots of jokes about how Americans don't understand the World Cup because unlike the World Series it has other countries in it...
- dinglebutt, on 10/11/2009, -2/+21She's a female. Her opinion is already invalid.
- Napiertt, on 10/11/2009, -0/+18Brazil is in the Americas :-)
- kinerry, on 10/11/2009, -4/+21America, ***** yea!
- cuoops, on 10/11/2009, -2/+18Most Americans (including me) have very little interest in this sport. I worked overseas the past few years and was in Phuket Thailand during the last World Cup. I'm a fan now.
- frenchfries11, on 10/11/2009, -6/+21USA! USA! USA!
- BloodWenis, on 10/11/2009, -3/+17and yet they LOST.
- LoveWidescreen, on 10/11/2009, -2/+16As per Wikipedia and several other web sites that are soccer/football-related:
The word "soccer" originated as an "Oxford '-er'" slang abbreviation of "association", and was popularised by a prominent English footballer, Charles Wreford-Brown. This origin is evident in the sometimes-heard variation, "soccer football."
So the term "soccer" is actually FROM ENGLAND and it's still used in Canada as well. - dobbmcrowell, on 10/11/2009, -1/+15You obviously didn't watch the game last night.
- shdwfx, on 10/11/2009, -1/+15It's a bit harsh to claim they have *no* chance of winning the actual cup. They have made it to the quarterfinals in 2002 I believe, but had a disappointing performance in 2006. So, yeah, it seems like a very long shot at best.
Too many Americans get carried away about their confed cup performance. Yes, they played well for 2 and a half games, but for Spain, that tournament was more of an annoyance during their summer break than anything else. The Euro Cup and World Cup is where it's at for them. - Nintendesert, on 10/11/2009, -1/+14You should try rubbing your dick in her face instead.
- BookaShade, on 10/11/2009, -5/+18You're the kind of person that will hate the US even when it cures cancer. Grow up.
- elipabst, on 10/11/2009, -1/+14How about beating Spain a few months ago in the Confederations Cup semis? They were undefeated in their last 35 matches.
- curiousnightowl, on 10/11/2009, -0/+13Here are the highlights from that hard fought 3-2 win over Honduras
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2009/10/11/honduras-2 ... - redfan, on 10/11/2009, -6/+18"The rest of the world calls it football, though."
Except in Ireland. And Australia. And Canada. And New Zealand. And South Africa. - kinerry, on 10/11/2009, -5/+17they said that when we beat russia in hockey, and the dozens of other events we have dominated over the years
- aguynamedjoe36, on 10/11/2009, -1/+13Actually, Honduras is a very difficult place to play as the article said. No other team in qualifying has won there. Congrats to Team USA for the best record in the group. We have a very good team that plays very well together under solid leadership. Maybe 2010 will be the year we can show the world we can play.
- fandyboy, on 10/11/2009, -6/+18***football
- TweakNF, on 10/11/2009, -6/+18Does America have Football hooligans? Do they all carry guns?
- rheaume, on 10/11/2009, -2/+14Official republican response:
Boooooooooooooooo - Tiitar, on 10/11/2009, -20/+31It's discussing the U.S. team, I think "soccer" is appropriate here.
- LoveWidescreen, on 10/11/2009, -2/+13At least the Little League World Series has teams from all over the world. That's pretty sad when a kids' league has more common sense than their adult counterparts.
- koolto, on 10/11/2009, -1/+12Do not use tinypic.
- grinsy, on 10/11/2009, -0/+11Are you implying there is a universal language we should all be using?
- DirtPile, on 10/11/2009, -1/+12GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAA--
- koolto, on 10/11/2009, -6/+15****Fútbol
- Jarasmen, on 10/11/2009, -1/+10I'm actually more curious why Americans call their football... well, football. It's obviously not played with feet that much.
- zKman, on 10/11/2009, -0/+9they didn't dominate the scoreboard
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/11/2009, -1/+10dinglebutt, this is not necessary true. a females opinion can be very valid at times. for example, techniques for cooking and cleaning can be useful. but i still with respond 'why you telling me? i don't tell you how to improve my own job'
- sndream, on 10/11/2009, -4/+12Better give them those HIV vaccine before they go. Seriously.
- Parallacks, on 10/11/2009, -15/+23WC qualifying in North America is never exciting.

If we are going to whine about what the rest of the world calls it, that's what billions of Chinese call soccer/football - dalittle, on 10/11/2009, -0/+8Football in North America is improving. And the US did beat Spain recently.
- sencity, on 10/11/2009, -1/+9Yes, America has football hooligans. they are called Raiders fans.
- SamSlater, on 10/11/2009, -0/+7If they're not violent they're not hooligans. You're talking about fans.
- DirtPile, on 10/11/2009, -0/+7AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
- grinsy, on 10/11/2009, -2/+9Most American's don't give a ***** about soccer, but we very much relish any opportunity as an underdog. It makes for a much better Hollywood script.
"Miracle on Grass" has such an nice ring to it - works for both the inspirational sports movie and the spoof. - bruggerA, on 10/11/2009, -13/+20**Futbol
- askantik, on 10/11/2009, -0/+6The World Series can include Canadian baseball teams...
- coldfusion1970, on 10/11/2009, -0/+6Well done USA. As a Brit i will happily cheer you on (as long as you dont come up against England).
- MattBD, on 10/11/2009, -14/+19The rest of the world calls it football, though.
- mizarone, on 10/11/2009, -0/+5Sadly, looks like Brazil is already selected to host the World Cup in 2014
- azbmr, on 10/11/2009, -0/+4They held their own in the confederations cup and that was against Brazil (in the final)!
http://www.fifa.com/confederationscup/index.html - randall814, on 10/11/2009, -0/+4The thing is, as a European, sometimes we mess around with each other and make fun of each other's cultures. Americans have the stereotype of American football (among other things) being our way of life, so when we're better than a European team in football/soccer, it's good leverage to make fun of her (and the fact that Hungarians really aren't too good this year in foot/soccer/*****).
- hhmmmm, on 10/11/2009, -0/+4Brazil is gonna be awesome in 2014. Just start saving your money...
- colto, on 10/11/2009, -1/+5Well if you are talking about America specifically the term soccer would probably be more applicable as it is the accepted name for the sport here. And yes, you are correct, hardly anyone gives a ***** about soccer in the US outside of those that actually play the sport and immigrants. Football (American) however obviously has a massive following.
