- jryaniv, on 06/24/2009, -4/+126Wow, pretty shocking result. Great turnaround after those first two stinkbombs in the group stage. I hope we have something left for Brazil (or South Africa, ha).
- dotSC, on 06/24/2009, -15/+126This is why I love this game!!!!! U-S-A!!!
We just beat the undisputed best team in the world! ahhhhh! - Verchiel77, on 06/24/2009, -7/+115Americans shocked, something called "Soccer" makes the front half of SportsCenter...
- skyjis6, on 06/24/2009, -11/+110Great goals. Phony red card. Eat it Spain.

Bed Bath and Beyond! (***** yeah, ***** yeah) - Greg2k, on 06/24/2009, -4/+99As a die hard Spain supporter, I congratulate your team for playing an awesome game tonight. Incredible defense, brillant goalkeeping and very nice connection between all positions. Spain was gracefully pwned, fair and square.
Spain is probably better than the US at soccer, but our unprecedented (and somewhat unrealistic) winning streak had to come to an end sometime, and I'm glad it happened like this and not against a lousy rival or because of a crooked ref.
As for your team, I hope you win at the Final, this cup probably means a lot more to you American fans than to the Brazilians or South Africans. - chrism123, on 06/24/2009, -5/+93Tim Howard was domination
- AuntJemyma, on 06/24/2009, -3/+90ESTADOS UNIDOS!!!!

- pault107, on 06/24/2009, -2/+83Give it twenty years and I can envisage you American bastards dominating the game.
/bitter Englishman. - misterrock, on 06/24/2009, -3/+72Holy ***** are we actually going to have a good team in 2010!?
- billjimbob, on 06/24/2009, -4/+67YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON TO EVER SAY THIS.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - nwscott7, on 06/24/2009, -1/+51that red card was crap. sad to not have bradley for the final.
- ManUnitdFan, on 06/24/2009, -3/+43As much as I would love that, I don't think it'll happen. A ton of American kids grow up playing soccer, but relatively few stick with it. They all move on to other sports when they get older, which is a shame.
- serif69, on 06/24/2009, -1/+40AAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- pwner, on 06/24/2009, -2/+35Well that and a live action Dragonball movie.
Ffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu - FreddieD, on 06/24/2009, -0/+31No worries paul, we have so many sports here with baseball, american football and basketball, that it would be tough to compete with the countries who all collectively live and die by the beautiful game.
Beating Spain was unbelievable, but even in recent history we have almost always sucked horribly against UEFA based teams. That's why it's such a shock to us when we do beat an upper echelon team like Portugal in 2002. - manlyandy, on 06/24/2009, -1/+32***** YEAH!
- dimatt, on 06/24/2009, -4/+34Just like when the US gets beaten in baseball?
- plainOldFool, on 06/24/2009, -3/+32According to Wikipedia (grain o' salt), the term "football" was used to describe a game played "on foot" as in a peasant game, opposed to noble games played on horseback.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_(word)
Apparently "soccer" is a term derived from "Association Football" which apparently is the official name for the sport. - stripesonfire, on 06/24/2009, -2/+30shots mean nothing if you can't finish.
- cps7c5, on 06/24/2009, -3/+29speak for yourself
- APMjoolz, on 06/24/2009, -7/+32WELL DONE USA BOYS!!! WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!
- FmyLife, on 06/24/2009, -1/+24Do you have any idea how many people around the world are pissed off right now?? USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
- sonithjackke, on 06/24/2009, -6/+28The red card at the end against Michael Bradley was just a wee bit excessive.
- pyg13, on 06/24/2009, -0/+22Agree with all of what you said - except for being a primarily Spanish fan ;-) .
Thanks for being polite. This is the Inter-Webs, and that is seen more rarely than the US beating a powerhouse football team. - martintxo, on 06/24/2009, -10/+32From Basque Country. Congratulations
- bro2baseball, on 06/24/2009, -3/+24Unfortunately, most Americans (including some of the ones who are excited about this victory) don't know what the Confederations Cup is. Hopefully this can change something.
- FreddieD, on 06/24/2009, -0/+21Yeah I wonder if Brazil is totally salivating right now... kind of like what the USSR did in the 1980 Olympic Hockey tournament when the USA qualified for the medal round instead of Czechoslovakia.
- nctarheel7, on 06/24/2009, -3/+24if you think "grade schoolers and immigrants" are the only ones who care, you are sadly mistaken. granted, its not as popular as the big three, soccer is certainly growing in popularity. games like this will only increase the popularity of the sport in the US. also, comments like yours do nothing to help the game here, if you don't like it, ignore it and shut the hell up. As soon as we win a major championship, which will be sooner rather than later, soccer will blow up here.
- illogik, on 06/24/2009, -17/+38Based on shots and possession we should have lost if anyone saw the game. Nevertheless, off to the finals!!!
- nwscott7, on 06/24/2009, -3/+24Could make an argument that they are (edit: WERE) one of the best teams ever with that 36 game unbeaten streak (although no WC title). Impressive either way!
- clouds31, on 06/24/2009, -2/+23Americuuuuuuuuh.........
- vanrigt, on 06/24/2009, -2/+23***** YEAH!!!!!!
