- eightfivezero, on 05/16/2008, -4/+65These aren't football fans, these are complete *****.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -8/+37Note to rest of world: This is what happens when you create a football club based on religion.
- theculchie1, on 05/16/2008, -2/+22A "small minority of fans" caused the trouble according to Rangers FC. Seems to be more than a small minority judging by that video.
They did a lot of damage for a small minority.

the council may have ***** up pretty bad with their organization of the whole thing, but credit to the cleaners, they did the whole city in a day - Totz83, on 05/16/2008, -12/+25Dirty Rangers scumbags /
- ynnoj, on 05/16/2008, -6/+18Scum, sub-human scum.
- theculchie1, on 05/16/2008, -0/+12The old firm is Scotland's dirty little secret. The levels of mindless violence after Celtic v Rangers games surpasses anything that England went through at the height of its hooligan problem.

- Chunkmiester, on 05/16/2008, -3/+13I registered just to post this:
I'm a student up here in central Manchester, and myself and some coursemates strolled out around the city to find some takeaway or something that night. (No where was open, it was a nightmare- but thats another story.)
Of all the swarms and swarms of blue shirted Scots around the place i have to say that they were very well behaved. We avoided Piccadilly Gardens for obvious reasons, but in all the surrounding areas such as Oxford Road and the Stations, the atmosphere was jubilant and merry. This was probably because none of us were wearing football shirts or high-vis jackets like the police and city stewards, but still- for the average person walking down the street the Scots were friendly-drunk and not aggressive-drunk at all. At one point we were politely asked for some insider knowledge of an off-license that might still be serving, we pointed a couple of them in the right direction and one of them slipped us a fiver. If you know anything about the Scottish, it's that they can be very very tight- but these guys were just having a good time, not causing trouble.
Thats not to say we didn't see a few incidents where paramedics were dealing with those who'd just fell over pissed, but away from the apparent maelstrom over in Piccadilly Gardens- the fans were respectful and well behaved.
This is a city where people get mugged, stabbed and shot all the bloomin' time, so a couple of hundred Scots tearing up the centre- from a possible pool of 200,000 Scots- is definitely unfortunate, but no where near as bad as it could have been. - lukeyd2006, on 05/16/2008, -2/+12Users of Digg, I introduce you to a racist bigot.
- dogididog, on 05/16/2008, -1/+10That was a great match though, Zenit completely battered Rangers.
- Bowd99, on 05/16/2008, -1/+10What is it about jingoistic patriotism that makes Americans coin the term "Eurofags" and thus sound like a bunch of *****?
- RickyTheRiot, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7"If Scottish fans can't keep there cool, then Scottish teams shouldnt be allowed in European competitions."
Please, these are Rangers fans. they represent Rangers Football Club, not Scottish fans in general or the other teams that play up here.
We, North of the border, are equally appalled at their attitude.
Ricky. - Vital8, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8...and the manchester police thought 7 officers were enough to deal with this horde?
- neocr0n, on 05/16/2008, -2/+9Its a football ground, there is a lot of violence in and around football, you would be stupid not to have a few CCTV cameras around.
- DiggyGrant, on 05/16/2008, -2/+9Am Scottish and proud but you can't blame the whole thing on Scotland as most Rangers fans are ok but some are ***** as seen. I still say it was Englands fault, they should pay there electric bill sometimes :P
- spiraltri3e, on 05/16/2008, -1/+8It hasn't really 'become' this, it's always been this way.
- squasheddog, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7where's a flamethrower when you need one?
- jeriqo, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6Probably not.. but very few sports can gather 100,000 persons in one place.
- Garf13ld, on 05/16/2008, -3/+9I'm a Rangers fan and I was at the game. There were somewhere between 150,000 and 200,000 Rangers fans in Manchester for the game (probably the largest travelling support ever, in any sport) and the vast majority were well behaved, creating a carnival atmosphere the whole day. This minority of scum have embarrassed Scotland and Rangers. Name them and shame them, then lock them up I say.
- weeFred, on 05/16/2008, -5/+11***** you, racist. Just because a bunch football lovin yobs get up to that doesn't mean we're all like that.
- Chazx, on 05/16/2008, -2/+8You must be having a laugh. That's the reason you think police should have guns? Here are a few reasons why they shouldn't:
US police shoot dead teenager wielding hairbrush
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/nov/13/usa.uk ...
New York on edge as police kill unarmed man in a hail of bullets on his wedding day
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/nov/27/usa.ju ...
And what about the innocent Brazilian shot dead by armed police in the 'war on terror'?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4711619.stm - hauntedchippy, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6See they actually use their foot to move the ball, the clue is in the name. You won't believe this but for some insane reason theres this other game called football where they run around carrying the ball with their hands?! Weird huh?
- landty, on 05/16/2008, -2/+8Videos like these do not make me feel very proud to be British.. Terrible shame that this is what some of society has become.
- Supernova36, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Jesus, I don't think I can go through 6 minutes of listening to Danny Dyer, the lovable cockney hard man.
- samuraix98, on 05/16/2008, -3/+8Zenit Champion
go cry about it rangers. - Marley88, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5one of the scum got bitten by a police dog at least!

Glaswegians vs Mancs; whoever loses we win. :-) - waydee, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Rangers fans != Scottish national team fans.
Rangers fans are for the most part a bunch of bigoted hooligans, same goes for Celtic fans. Trust me most Scots would be happy to wall off Glasgow and let them fight amongst themselves if it meant they couldn't call themselves Scottish. - Spuy767, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Seems to be quite a bit of that going around these days. You rarely see violence on this scale in other sports.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Religion in football is what causes half the problems mate. Stop making it worse.
- Kapitaine, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Yes, there are a lot of them, but then there's a lot of ***** like this going on too.
- mdinire, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Celtic fans were very well behaved when they reached the final of the same competition in 2003. Albeit it was a bit further away but the fans received the FIFA Fair Play Award:
"..police remarking that not a single disturbance was made in the city despite the mass numbers, Celtic fans received an official award from FIFA and UEFA, winning the FIFA Fair Play Award that year and being presented with a formal recognition from UEFA at a home match the following season." - inactive, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5I was going to Digg you up massively for your balanced, level-headed post but then this little gem appeared and ruined it:
"If you know anything about the Scottish, it's that they can be very very tight..."
That's a blatant stereotype, mate, and a shocking generalisation to boot. It's also quite offensive, when you think about it. I'm sure there are plenty of English, Welsh and Irish who can be just as grippit wi' their change-purses.
Nice try, but no cup of tea for you. - andyc, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6How to incite a riot in 2 easy steps:
1. Put 20,000 (mainly drunk) Rangers fans in front of a huge TV and promise to show them the most important football match their team has played for decades and may ever play in their lifetimes.
2. When the game starts, turn the TV off. - lukeyd2006, on 05/16/2008, -3/+7I blame alcohol for this, the Rangers fans were known to have been drinking alcohol since 7-8 AM....the match finished around 9:30 PM. As a die-hard Rangers fan, I am utterly disgraced at the way these fans behaved. We should have been celebrating the fact that we were in the UEFA cup final, against one of the best teams in Europe.
We will be once again banned from any European competitions due to the ultimate bigotry and shame that these ***** have brought to the long-standing, oldest name in Scottish football. - mdinire, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4^ Bigot? Is it not Rangers fans who were caught chanting sectarian abuse?
- Harrison88, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5Over 100,000 fans where in the city. I'd call 200 a small minority of 100,000.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3No, call the game by it's proper English name and stop using the term innapropriately to describe your game of rugby played by big jessies wearing thick layers of padding.
The clue is in the name: FOOT to BALL. Why you all insist on running with yours I'll never know.... - DiggyGrant, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Yeah I understand that but there are some good fans out there you can put it on the whole of the rangers fans, there was plenty of fans there just for a laugh and not for a fight.
- sk11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Well thankfully this isn't China.
- whytey, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3no its not.
- landty, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3ignorant.
- startmenu, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headline ...
- SuperMoses, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5Now if only people had this much passion for ***** that actually mattered, it'd be the corrupt politicians running, not low-level police officers.
- mdinire, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3No one and nothing is to blame but the minority of stupid fans.
- sandanista, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Shame the Police continued running when one of their colleagues was getting his head kicked in. It would have been nice to see some of them try to help him, even if it meant they all took a beating.
- Garf13ld, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Dirty little secret? It's a well-known problem that the authorities, and the clubs themselves, have been trying to tackle for decades.
- sgtpppr, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3They always blame it on a 'small minority'...yet this isn't an uncommon occurance. NFL games in the US are getting to be just as bad.
