- feebes, on 10/16/2009, -13/+40I love soccer, but I really don't think Americans will catch on to the sport unless this international gaggle of pussies stop acting like little girls.

- wejmahtin, on 10/16/2009, -2/+21Whilst I agree that Italy is at the top of the drama chart in ***** futbol whining, not all soccer players are pussy whiners.
- confuciussay, on 10/16/2009, -3/+18Acting is a prerequisite of football
- Fleagleman, on 10/16/2009, -0/+14In the NBA, that used to be called the "Vlade Flop". Oh, Vlade, we miss you so.
- tonytroz, on 10/16/2009, -1/+14Flopping in soccer is like DIVING in hockey, and it's retarded and forces referees to either be too harsh or too lenient.
The funny part is hockey has a diving penalty, but they always call it on top of calling the penalty on the opposing player. - kaiteng, on 10/16/2009, -6/+19Flopping in soccer is like fighting in hockey, they are both parts of the professional games. But there are levels of acceptance though.

How can Life do a feature, albeit a minor one, and get details like that wrong? - DaviDTC, on 10/16/2009, -1/+10AC Milan vs Celtic - Dida touched by a fan.

- davidwmfc, on 10/16/2009, -0/+9It's the most popular sport in the world, moron. Of course people care about it. Yes, foreigners are people too!
- atchon, on 10/16/2009, -1/+9In a soccer tackle you are getting hit well below your center of gravity which is why sometimes a small hit can result in a big fall, also these guys are running pretty fast. Also after playing for 70 minutes or so small tackles can really cause nasty cramps which is sometimes why people will be writhing around. Given there are plenty of just blatant dives....Italy....
As a defender I got the nice end of the straw tackling instead of being tackled. - hayden.evans, on 10/16/2009, -1/+9well clearly someone hasn't seen a game of rugby.
- sinurgy, on 10/17/2009, -0/+7I certainly can't speak for other Americans but I can say that is by far the single biggest reason why I do not watch soccer. I just cannot stand the constant flopping, it's soooo ***** cheesy!
- PhillyOC, on 10/16/2009, -0/+7I couldn't even get that far.
- egemenbor, on 10/16/2009, -0/+7how did people as dumb as you figure out how to work a computer?

http://www.youmustbejoking.co.uk/petercrouch/1.jpg - wejmahtin, on 10/16/2009, -9/+14American football games consist of about a total of 7.2 minutes of actual game play time, and approximately 42 minutes of commercial time. That's ... fun to watch?
- errik03, on 10/17/2009, -0/+4American players are for the most part clean players and dont dive
- trendygamer, on 10/16/2009, -3/+7This is why I play rugby.
- lorddazzer, on 10/16/2009, -0/+4Ouch.
- boardthis, on 10/16/2009, -9/+13soccer players need to start acting like men instead of crying little babies. same goes for basketball players taking charges.

- davidwmfc, on 10/16/2009, -2/+6Not all footballers are pansies. I'd like to point out that our Welsh players are as tough as they come
- Fishn2, on 10/16/2009, -0/+4It seems that whenever football associations attempt to clamp down on diving they end up spending about a month turning down legitimate claims, get bored then miss some really major ones at some important stage of the season.
- dvandy83, on 10/16/2009, -0/+4Could the guy in the 20th slide look more British?

http://tinyurl.com/3weo52 - sgtbutterscotch, on 10/16/2009, -0/+4Usually it is a natural reaction if you think you actually got fouled and you deserve a free kick or penalty kick. Sometimes players flop just because they are douchebags though. I remember watching a game a while back where Materazzi was running through the box during a free kick and dove for the ground when no one laid a finger on him and he still got the penalty kick.
I think the solution is that any players determined to have flopped badly need to be fined heavily, like 2 or 3 games' worth of salary. - sherrington19, on 10/16/2009, -0/+4dugg for using the word gaggle
- DhalsimHibiki, on 10/17/2009, -0/+3Diving is so annoying but they do it for tactical reasons, not just because they are wusses. If your team gets a penalty it could win the game, which would help your team and your career. Dont forget that they do it for the money.
- Vindexus, on 10/16/2009, -0/+3For Philly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole
- Vindexus, on 10/16/2009, -1/+4"I don't blame the players"
I do. - billjimbob, on 10/16/2009, -3/+6I watched about 30min of one soccer game in the past year, I think one of the games in the Confed Cup. During it, one guy CLEARLY flopped, and fell to ground thriving in pain, rolling over and over. At first, the referee called just a foul (according to the announcers). Five minutes of rolling on the ground later, a stretcher comes out and takes the guy off the field. THEN, 5 minutes after the play occurred, the referee pulls out a red card and throws the guys who committed the phantom foul out of the game. Sure enough, a few minutes later, the guy who was carried off in the stretcher comes jogging back into the game without a limp.
I don't blame the players - flopping clearly works. There should just be much tougher rules for flopping, and it should be called more frequently.
Haven't watched soccer since. Maybe I'll watch some of the World Cup next year. - bmw7777, on 10/16/2009, -4/+7My favorite part about baseball, football, and basketball is that I can ignore it completely in favor of sports that are fun to watch, like soccer.
At least soccer has 90 minutes of playing time, compared to the 3 hours of commercials and "crowd shots" of cheerleaders and fans. Basketball is much better in that regard, but baseball and football is all advertising... - davidwmfc, on 10/16/2009, -5/+8Each to their own. Unless you're American, in which case your opinion of sport is inherently misguided
- zoethebitch, on 10/17/2009, -0/+3I was watching a US vs. Mexico game a few years ago. A Mexican player fell over in the penalty box like his legs had been chopped off at the knees. One of the commentators said, "He must have felt the brush of a U.S. jersey against his arm."
That's just one example. A lot of countries are guilty. It's crap and cheapens the game. - shoff88, on 10/17/2009, -0/+3One of the worst parts that has allowed diving to get to where it is common in the game is the officials. Embellishment is a card-able offense in the game. There are many situations where there are tackles that are either a blatant dive or a harsh tackle (especially in the box) where the ref just tells the player to get up and get on with the game. If there is a tackle in the box that may cause a penalty, you need to either award the penalty, or caution the player for embellishment. (Even though I am a Chelsea fan, I am looking at Drogba to get on his ***** feet sometimes.)
Now as a midfielder, that is not to say that going down isn't a strategic move to slow down the game, but when you are doing it just looking for an easy goal you need to be cautioned. - alrightwtf, on 10/17/2009, -0/+3you couldn't read the pictures? i think you're doin it wrong...
- ChronicColonic, on 10/16/2009, -0/+3LOL - soccer kick to groin
- Daniel591992, on 10/16/2009, -1/+4No one cares about soccer... right....
- mrdude4290, on 10/17/2009, -0/+2Clicking through every picture I imagined the players making noises like this:
"Whaaaaaaa?!!"
"ARRRUGGUGGGH!"
"HERRRRR!!!"
"(Chewbacca Noise)" - boardthis, on 10/16/2009, -2/+4i find it hard to take a sport seriously that allows players to jump in the air, scream out bloody murder, fall to the ground and hold their leg while not getting touched.
