- phreak79, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10Atletico fans need to appreciate that Liverpool are owed a penalty in each and every game. Written in some long, lost law somewhere.
- serif69, on 11/20/2008, -1/+11It would be bigger news if he didn't receive death threats.
- steenmachine, on 11/20/2008, -1/+10Steven Gerrard is a diving pansy.
- ftx437, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9Football/soccer: the only sport (that i know of) where you have to put a huge fence (a couple i have seen with barbed wire) around the field.
- DigSomeMore, on 11/20/2008, -2/+10They take their football very serious indeed...
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8Not gentlemanly. Just not cool.
- serif69, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7The have those at most racing circuits too. Presumably to keep parts from flying into the crowd. Personally, I think it's more to keep drunken retards off the track.
- redfan, on 11/20/2008, -1/+8In fairness, I kind of wanted to kill him too after he gave a penalty for that obvious and shameless dive.
""How many people in this court are thinking of killing her right now? ... Be honest." - zombiecarlin, on 11/20/2008, -1/+8Steven Gerrard is one of the biggest cheats in the game, perfect role model for the typical scouser.
- jumpythefrog, on 11/20/2008, -1/+7As a Liverpool fan that was not a penalty...
- msissio, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6As a Milan fan, I am shocked at how the Scousers always get away with simulation (2005- Gerrard's dive).
- nirvanix, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5Tough being a ref, especially the way that players in professional soccer do dives. They can be pretty convincing when you have to make a call on the spot.
- Cancerous, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5Dugg for that Liverpool player karate choping the guy from Madrid.
- Stavrosian, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5And how about those Spanish fans, who are the ones in question here?
- Phoetality, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5It was the Spanish.
RTFA - metapop, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4don't talk about that which you don't know. the british used to have a horrible reputation for hooliganism, but the italians and several eastern european nations have definitely had the worst reputations recently.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5Because it makes the Dorito-fingered fatsoes feel bad. Now go back to anesthetize and numb yourself from emotion with 4chan and WoW.
- nicc, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4true...and their opponents are not allowed a penalty. (see Pool v Arsenal CL matches last year)

willdiggforfood, get a life. - BrokenVisage, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3What's wrong with giving somebody a Penalt? It's a great red wine.
- nicc, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3only matches I see with fences is usually Italian, Spanish and South American games.
you wont see any fences in Premier League matches. - steenmachine, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I second that!
- jerryjamesstone, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3seriously
- ftx437, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3yeah thats true they do but like you said thats more for fan protection from flying parts..in football/soccer it's to keep the fans/violence off the pitch
- Dev23, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3It's called football. And you need to watch moar of it.
- Blackham, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Thats harsh.
- MrSteamTank, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3They also have moats in many of the stadiums as well. Most of the Colombia matches have riot police that shield the players from the crap the fans hurl during corners.
- metapop, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3spurs beat liverpool twice in the past few weeks.
that is all. just wanted to take this opportunity to rub that in to any scousers that happened to see these comments :) - PhildoVT, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3SPURS!
- PhildoVT, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3The article says that the result "cost Atletico a place in the last 16". Pretty sure that's not the case. Liverpool and Atletico are tied for first place in their group.
- metapop, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2look who we had out on the field too. we weren't playing king, jenas, bent (for the majority), or bentley. torres was up front for you, agger and carragher were in defense... rafa obviously underrated us which was foolish considering we beat you with a stronger team a week earlier.
- OsmanP, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Firstly I strongly disagree with the death threat following Gerrard's 'dive' in which he should have got a yellow card for 'simulation'. The referee had a terrible game in which he should gave a penalty to Liverpool earlier on in the game. There seems to be a lot of diving in the Premier League and it needs to stamped out, alot of inconsistency this season, look at the decision when Styles gave a pen at Old Trafford against Bolton.
- Napiertt, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2As well he should!
- metapop, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2haha- that's pretty funny considering the teams they're talking about are spurs/liverpool... of course in real life, spurs beat liverpool twice instead of losing :)
- Addofreeze, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ironic, given Kaka's tumble against Chievo.
- EnderMB, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Unlike many, I think video replays have no place in the game. The referee is a part of the game and his decisions should be final.
However, I think teams as a whole should suffer the consequences for one of their players diving. For example, if Steven Gerrard were to dive again and be caught after the match he should automatically be banned for three games and be fined two weeks wages. On top of that, if a player were to dive in a major cup competition in a knock-out round then his club should be fined £1M, to make up for the costs of the team advancing.
Not only will this improve the sport it will improve the financial situations of the governing bodies, allowing them to spend it on developing the sport in poorer countries. Imagine how much money the English FA would make during one weekend! Didier Drogba might just want to direct his account to the FA. - Stonekeeper, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2It all went to Rugby.
- Haplin, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2lol
- janetsson, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Love football but I think this is pretty much the best thing ever said about it.

(maybe an obvious thing to post but I just saw it) - comrade693, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2No idea why they don't do instant replay, other than it might disrupt the flow of the game.
- dhs100, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2It's called football (foot + ball = football).
- coldfusion1970, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Luckily we dont have that problem in the UK.
- coldfusion1970, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2But its not a real sport ...
- ftx437, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Very true!
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I have no evidence to back this claim up, but I believe that call came from higher up.
Ed Hochuli's blunder when he called a fumble an incomplete pass back in the week 2 chargers/broncos game warranted several death threats. - EnderMB, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I'd rather see a chimp as president of FIFA than Sepp Blatter.
- tman84, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2either way, ***** fans who riot and threaten to kill and actually do kill (read: World Cup, Colombia). This doesn't even happen at hockey games, which is a way more violent sport.
- arcusxx, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2You the man. You should be the next FIFA President. LOL anyways, i totally agreed seen nowadays, there's too much of diving incident.
- EnderMB, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I wouldn't want instant replay to be used, but the FA to monitor footage themselves and to fine and ban players after matches. That way the competition between players would be fair.
- indubitably, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2the ref was absolute crap. i don't think gerrard dove though. he was in the air, felt contact and went down. like he said later, had it been in the open field it would have been a foul, no question. whether he embellished the contact or not is for the ref to decide. i must admit though. liverpool are a lucky squad but luck is a part of the game.
