- IamNOTmrT, on 07/13/2009, -0/+32pre-emptively digging down the first person to start the 'football/soccer' argument
- Sideshowslob, on 07/13/2009, -2/+13"The ball is constructed in three layers, and this somehow makes the ball travel two ball lengths longer than previous Nike footballs."
That's pretty impressive, two ball lengths is what, 14 inches? This is going to revolutionize football/soccer. - AoiTakuma, on 07/13/2009, -0/+9I don't think they are targeting average folks with these balls. They are going after the elite leagues in the world, who buy a ton of balls each year. And from what I understand that price tag isn't too far out of reach for a ball used on that skill level, TeamGeist balls are about the same price.

- adamslap, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7Thats really not expensive, most match balls retail for +$100
- mixeao, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4they should pair it with a super advanced soccer boot that targets the sweet spot on the ball, or increases power when kicking.
Common Nike, engineer this already!!!! - mohas, on 07/13/2009, -1/+5Might be a nice ball, but no way I would spend $150 on it.
- mixeao, on 07/13/2009, -1/+5but can it run Crysis?
- exeprime, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4OH HOW WITTY
they use round footballs in association football and egg-shaped footballs in american football. - jamesey, on 07/13/2009, -3/+6It's rounder
- tommasz, on 07/16/2009, -0/+3Apparently, soccer eliminates your sense of humor.
- kasjogren, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4I just shattered my ankle playing soccer and am out for a year. All this article does is make me QQ and feel sorry for myself...better pop more percocet before they ban it.
- GavinZac, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Americans like their scoring to be devalued so that they arent distracted by raucous cheering while they're being entertained by the jumbotron. "This free throw brought to you by Chillies!"
- flamincheney, on 07/13/2009, -2/+4The surface texture reminds me of the new-fangled swimwear seen in the Beijing games.
Retail appears to be $140-150... For a ball. WOW - tonytroz, on 07/13/2009, -6/+8I don't understand, how is this ball going to going to allow Peyton Manning to throw longer, more accurate touchdowns and allow his receivers to see the ball better? It looks like it's going to be a lot tougher to hold. And when did football get goalkeepers?
- flamincheney, on 07/13/2009, -2/+4Which is crazy as hell.
- AdamKap, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1I'm getting tired of the fact that everytime a new ball is introduced, part of the marketing is 'goalkeepers will dread it, forwards will love it". Come up with something original for once.
- skribble, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Ummm... Didn't Adidas already do most of these things? I know the Champions League Finales ball had those "dimples like a golf ball" as well.
- JakeyG14, on 07/13/2009, -2/+3Was Quaresma really the top choice for someone who can strike a ball sweetly? Fair enough he's up there with the best for use of the outside of his foot, but he's "Mr Inconsistent" and just a bit of let down to be honest.
- pandorazboxx, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1I think that's the point. That he'll be hitting the sweet spot better now. That's why its good news for him.
- lordmike, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Will it fix my slice, though? Oh, wait, never mind... at first, it sounded like a description for a golf ball...
- markaldinho, on 07/13/2009, -2/+3The 2008/2009 average goals per game in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga were 2.5, 2.6 and 2.9 respectively. But many of the very best matches to watch are 0-0 draws. If you can't appreciate anything other than scoring, go watch something like basketball. For those of us who can appreciate tactics, defence, passing, creative skills etc., we'll watch (association) football.
- futebollounge, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1you both make a valid point.
- NoahDre, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1Yep, that's quite the soccer ball.
- misswolff2012, on 07/13/2009, -0/+0What does the thing look like?
- hpodity, on 07/13/2009, -2/+2but can it right click?
- tommasz, on 07/13/2009, -3/+3This is great! Nike's improvement could send the number of goals scored per game way up, to something like 2 or even 3! Watch your back, NFL!
- sparfitt, on 10/01/2009, -0/+0A couple of hundred quid for14 extra inches, if this was cosmetic surgery it would be worth it, but for a ball that is rediculous
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1Since when did american footballs become "egg-shaped"? That's the strangest descriptor I've seen for their shape. They aren't wider on one end than the other.
- sparfitt, on 09/29/2009, -0/+0Thats good but I bet it will attract the usual price tag from Nike. I have found Surridge Cobbler and Surridge UFO1 balls to be excellent and massive value for money. Surridge footballs have been around for ages and used in the world cup and by England.
You can find them at http://www.best4sport.co.uk - californicator, on 07/13/2009, -2/+1Great, it's more visible. The real question is... will Americans watch it?
- techdever, on 07/13/2009, -3/+1Google Chrome OS? That's advanced? It will probably run commands in a terminal with super-user privileges while kicking the ball a la Android OS.
- wonnk13, on 07/13/2009, -8/+4excuse my ignorance, but just how much "technology" can be incorporated into a ball? i'd also be interested to see how much it costs, probably a few hundred with that big swoosh on it.
- skilopr, on 07/13/2009, -10/+5yes, but does it have flash?
- TheBifman, on 07/13/2009, -7/+2Buried for inconsistent title
- r0base, on 07/13/2009, -16/+9Lies, that's a soccer ball.
Also.. who cares. - renvar, on 07/13/2009, -8/+0Be honest, who else read that as "Hi-tech Goddess of Soccer"?
- Elset, on 07/13/2009, -11/+1soccer ball
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -14/+2When did they start using soccerballs in football?
Is this some sort of new NFL rule change I haven't heard about?
