- EtherealSOC, on 01/16/2009, -1/+15Dude, seriously...can you help a brother out?
Eu não tenho dinheiro - AmericanGunner, on 01/15/2009, -2/+15Its the sun...but if this really does happen, I sort of feel bad for kaka and milan (only so much due to how much money theyd both be getting). But kaka he wanted to "grow old" at milan and im sure milan would of loved to have kaka there till the end of his days. Hes a great player and a positive player as well as a great role model. But you cant say no to £500,000 a week...cant blame him.
- asskicker32, on 01/16/2009, -0/+13Did you read the article?
£108 for AC Milan
£108 for Kaka
£27 for fees and middlemen
So, no, he wont be geting half a mil per week, but £108,000,000 to play football for a living and help turn City into a premier league and champions league contender? - L3MMY, on 01/16/2009, -1/+12Please don't submit stories from this "newspaper".
- neocr0n, on 01/16/2009, -1/+12AC Milan agreed to let Manchester City talk to Kaka with a offer of around £109 million. Why on earth at that stage would Manchester City increase the bid to £243 million. The Sun is such a ***** paper. It's reported by reputable news sites that a further £30 million would go to his agent for getting the deal through and Kaka is being offered somewhere in the region of £280,000 a week In wages. Still all of this is way OVER the top, with a current world wide transfer fee record of £48 million and wage record of around £165,000 a week Manchester City are looking to shake up the game. The beuty of the game is the next 'Kaka' is probably In Brazil right now and can be bought for less than £20 million, thats the advantages of a good scouting network.
- chrisgnv, on 01/16/2009, -1/+12ESPN has terrible coverage of any sport other than american football, basketball, and baseball. Their coverage of hockey is laughable and almost annoying when you have to witness the spectacle of Woody Paige and Tim Cowlishaw analyzing a game. And soccer, well, I think they cover soccer for about 45 seconds a day.
Oh well, at least there is TSN for hockey. - Piro786, on 01/16/2009, -0/+10Yeah, I hear the Championship is BRUTAL.
- jammyfred, on 01/16/2009, -0/+10I can remember when Newcastle bought Alan Shearer for 15mill off Blackburn and that was the biggest transfer in history, this, if it ever happens, is completely ridiculous.
- Mundo, on 01/16/2009, -1/+11Man City are NOT doing well this season.

- ialwayswin7, on 01/16/2009, -2/+10first robinho then kaka? man city could be serious contenders in the near future.
- LeeBriggs, on 01/15/2009, -0/+810m for his dad aswell probably secured it. Milan can build a whole new team with 100m and their squad is quite old. The Sun aren’t the best source but fair play if they are breaking it. I reckon if he does come we will see Villa, Silva and Cruz before next week. Loving it!
- deealf, on 01/16/2009, -1/+9wtf are you talking about? did you even read the article? £108m is for his salary only
- itsJALbert, on 01/16/2009, -0/+6Uh, City is buying the player *from* AC Milan. I realise that 10 years ago the notion of City paying a record transfer fee to Milan is unthinkable, but it truly is the other way around :p
- sinnuendo, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5The title is misleading. He's been given green light from Milan to negotiate with Man City (or any other club for that matter) but this deal is far from done. AC Milan probably knows that he is not going anywhere and that all these headlines speculating his leaving for ungodly sums of money just bring his value up even more. Would you leave AC Milan to play for a mid-tier nouveau riche team in the EPL if you were already a millionaire?
- BTom14, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5Your ignorance is no reason to bury it. Just go to xe.com and type in the number its as simple as that. I'm an american and I'm not stupid enough to ignore the fact that soccer is the best sport in the world. A million times than the commercialized ***** American Professional Sports have become. Watch the world cup in 2010 and you'll see what I mean.
- Cheesasaurus, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5In the article it says that Kaka will be making £13.28 million per year. AC Milan is getting payed an equal amount for the rights to their player, but obviously the guy isn't going to play for free just because someone payed his old team.
- acidix, on 01/16/2009, -1/+5Buried for being from the Sun...
- Wawin, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Hmm if that´s how much kaka costs in the football market, how much do Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi cost? This kaka deals totally changes the market.
- phreak79, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Not gonna happen. Why on Earth would he join them?
- indubitably, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3what phase was robinho?
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -10/+13Oh *****.
Funny thing is, even after two stories made it to the front page, diggers still don't understand that Kaka doesn't get a penny of that money. - LeeBriggs, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3I think signing a player like Kaka will make it easier for City to sign the kind of players that will enable the squad to "function" into the future - This is surely the main driver but also yes - Shirt sales will no doubt be key to the transition. Rumour has it that we wont even have his image rights so I personally think its less about money and more about the Abu Dhabi owners having a bit of a fiddle with their new toy.
- Kvasaari, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3RTFA.
- RogerMcDodger, on 01/16/2009, -1/+4Having read the article it doesn't seem that the deal has changed in any way, the sun have just put a new spin on it. These figures would have been the same had it been accepted the first time.
Transfers are rarely reported as including wages, agent fees and signing bonuses. £108m was the original bid. - SCPChop108, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3beta
- helooksmortal, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3I still find this dubious.
Nevertheless, the numbers being thrown around are insane to even fathom. - neocr0n, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3It's not an amazing coup really, everyone has a price and when your club Is owned by a Middle Eastern consortium worth a reported $800 billion.. lets just say they can go for who they like.
- dlan4327, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3How will City fit Kaka in? Robinho is an automatic starter. Obviously Kaka will start.
What about Ireland? He's been playing out of his skin but he's not a big name star.
Also SWP was a big money purchase & he will have to find somewhere to play.
Finally Elano & petrov will probably move on & they're both class players. City are silly. - itsthehumidity, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3I hate being the stickler but I happened to notice it was about half that amount he'd be taking home per week. Just a lousy 255.
- ShaneMcDeath, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2worst.newspaper.ever
- idontlikeyou2, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2This is absolutely absurd and stupid. Firstly, they could use that money to bring in several very talented player to boost their offence and defense. Man City's problem can't be solved by one player, they need a deeper pool of talented player not flashy names. Secondly, the debts that most premiership clubs incurs is getting ridiculous, Man United and Chelsea (Ambromivich did not give his money away for free, he'll be getting them back for those expensive transfers that never paid off on the fied) are both deep in debt.
- asskicker32, on 01/16/2009, -1/+3Because City has money and they want to put together a world class football team. Kaka was phase one.
- bobloblaw4, on 01/16/2009, -6/+8It's the Sun. ***** article.
- Ellsass, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2I don't see why Kaka can't take this deal and still grow old at Milan. He's only 26, so he could play in the Premier League this season, the Championship for the next two (I kid, I kid), then come back to Milan to finish his career. Along the way he'd get a ***** of money and he'd be walking into a presumably much stronger Milan squad who could win the Scudetto and Champions League to put a nice cap on his career.
- jmoh, on 01/16/2009, -3/+5243 million pounds is nearly 360,000,000 U.S. dollars....
HOLY *****! - ShaneMcDeath, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2how is this embarrassment of a newspaper getting onto digg? That's a few times now.
- LeStratege, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2English football is becoming really ridiculous. Clubs are racking up so much debt that the players now look like thugs just there to get some cash. What happened to the game?
243 millions pounds is more than the yearly budget of the Olympique Lyonnais which reaches the last 16 of the Champions League on a regular basis. Just ridiculous... - cmf2071, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2@AmericanGunner: I feel exactly the same way. On one hand you can't feel too sorry for him since the money he'll be getting borders on the unbelievable. On the other hand though, I have great difficulties imagining Man City qualifying for the Champions League anytime soon, let alone winning the Premier League title. That means that he will ultimately be saying goodbye to the prestige that goes with playing for a top club like AC Milan. I wish him the best of luck and being an Arsenal supporter myself I think that it will be great for the League to have a player like this playing in England. But I'm pretty sure that this is one of the toughest decisions he and his club will ever have to make.
PS. Obviously this being The Sun it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Here's a more reliable source:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/m ... - GalacticRerun, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2City are not better than Chelsea were before they got taken over.
- Piro786, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Jackass, don't wish bad things upon others.
- hypocriticizer, on 01/16/2009, -1/+3HARR HARR. No.
- tymufc, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2ftw
- AnOceanApart, on 01/16/2009, -1/+3I reckon if this is legit and Kaka does make the switch - which it looks like he will (bookies have slashed the odds to 1-6) It will be an amazing coup for City. I guess that The Sun are jumping the gun a bit - we should hear more tomorrow. City are by no means a ***** team - they are a damn site better than Chelski were before they got taken over, In a years time they will be rocking the world on the pitch as well as off it.:)
- rezz05, on 01/16/2009, -1/+2The more important thing here is that this is another team who wants to buy trophies. UEFA has to put a stop to this and create some sort of reasonable salary caps. How are smaller teams from other countries suppose to compete? I know that buying world class players doesn't guarantee you a title but what chance does a team with a total yearly salary of 3-15 million euro have against a team worth 100-200. Especially when there's 10-12 mixed in to the Champions League pot. Anytime a small team even has a chance, a bigger team comes along and snatches their best players. They throw around such large amounts of cash that they have no option but to let the players go.
These amounts are getting ridiculous. - DeadlyFish, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1I too think Kaka might struggle in the premier league, not because hes a ***** player but because the leagues are so different. In my view the teams in the top four have their own style of football compared to rest of the teams in the premier league and Man city is nowhere near the top four yet.
- Wicked68, on 01/16/2009, -1/+2Nooooooo, Kaka, hahahah. Man, I don't want him to leave Milan, but for that much money how can he or Milan say no? I mean, Milan can buy a few football stars will 100 million. But this is ridiculous, in this economy, oh my god, this bid is ridiculous. And Kaka is great but he isn't showing the form he was when he won footballer of the year in 2007, and he's no Messi or C. Ronaldo, and I think he's like 26, this price is ridiculous. If this is true and goes through, man, this is monumental.
- tfosorcim, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Hmm but supposedly there are bunch of exit clauses in the contract such as if Man city dont make it to Champions League in 2 seasons or Robinho is sold then he is out of there. Plus while Kaka is a fantastic player would he be able to handle the roughness of the Premiership, because at Milan he had Gattuso watching his back and also an excellent midfield comprising of Pirlo and Seedorf. We will see what happens.
