- Duncast, on 06/14/2008, -1/+171I must say I am pleasantly surprised to see a football story on the front page of digg :D Fantastic.
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -6/+107oranje!
- Seth024, on 06/14/2008, -14/+73Let's hope Holland will let Romania win. The whole world will laugh at France and Italy.
- SQLserver, on 06/14/2008, -0/+47It is really kind of sad how little attention is payed to Football/Soccer in America... If I didn't have strong European ties, I would hardly know a thing.
- MarkCiccone, on 06/14/2008, -1/+43Football is THE BEST sport in the world. It is simply incredible, and this is coming from an American who used to hate it.
- rtaibah, on 05/22/2009, -1/+41Yesterday's match (along with Italy's last week) will go down as in history as instant classics.
At this rate, and if the Dutch keep at this form, we probably have on our hands a legendary team akin to the Cruyff and Van Basten teams of the 70's and 80's respectively.
As long as we are speaking about the dutch, I would recommend a book called "Brilliant Orange" to anybody, not just football fans. The books looks at the Dutch game from a cultural perspective. How the flatness of their country affected their playing technique, and how building dikes all these centuries cultivated total football...etc. Really good book.

The numbers 1 & 2 of last world championship got a serious ass whooping by the Dutch.

Fail. - JanYpe, on 06/14/2008, -5/+24Au revoir France, viva Hollandia!
- N0stradamus, on 06/14/2008, -0/+17Let me be the first to reply that when in sports some one, or some team wins from the no1 and no2 of the world, with such a margin, people get excited. It gets on Digg when it happens with Football (the US version with the Hands...) and now it happens with Football, the rest of the world version, with the feet...
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -0/+17Holland and Portugal are the best teams to win the competition.
- schitzo15, on 06/14/2008, -0/+17I second that, also very glad you used football instead of the 's' word :)
- russianfella, on 06/14/2008, -1/+16they are playing good. that's a pleasure to see them playing. go Netherlands go! (or should I say Holland?)
- mamboboy, on 06/14/2008, -0/+14considering how dreadful france and italy have played, in a way i'm glad england never qualified - it would have been painful to watch!
routing for holland :) - ep53, on 06/14/2008, -2/+16Being Italian i was hoping for Italy to win, but seeing as they are not doing to well, my next choice will definitely be Holland. They deserved the win last night, the 3rd (come back goal, seconds after France scored) was amazing, so was their 4th goal at 92 mins...
- kamisama, on 06/14/2008, -0/+13Why bother posting a reply in a European topic then *****? Obviously YOU care enough.
- sk11, on 06/14/2008, -0/+13OMG something different got dugg to the front page, holy ***** contact the feds!!
- impei, on 06/14/2008, -0/+13Germany lost to Croatia on Thursday. The real final will be the C-D semi-final probably between Spain and the Netherlands. The winner of that game will go on to meet Portugal in the Final. Those three teams have been a level above the others so far. But, of course anything can happen. That is why we watch.
- duncanm, on 06/14/2008, -0/+12I've managed to watch most of the matches in the tourney so far... and both of Holland's games were a pure delight to watch. (I was cheering France yesterday, but I won't let that get in the way of enjoying a magnificent athletic display) Both Italy and France pushed Holland quite hard... but Holland's play has been near perfect. Their goals have been stunning. It's going to be interesting to see if they can maintain their performance... and if they can... wow. Just... WOW! If you get a chance to watch their games... DO!!... because it's truly been a spectator's delight so far and something to remember for years.
- cmsjustin, on 06/14/2008, -1/+13Vier eennnnnnn.... vier eennnnnnnn
- N0stradamus, on 06/14/2008, -0/+12This was another awesome victory for the Dutch. The no. 1 (Italy, 3-0) and the no. 2 (France 3-1) of the world defeated in such a way just make me chuckle. I love too watch footbal (soccer, for the Americans, who play FOOTball with their hands...) where the semi-underdog wins with a landslide. Congrats Holland! Congrats!
- Niubai, on 06/14/2008, -0/+11Netherlands always have a quality side. They always presented a quality team at the World Cups (like the 70's total football) but, I don't know how, they never managed to win one. I hope they win the Euro and, perhaps, a World Cup. They deserve it.
- njndirish, on 06/14/2008, -0/+11I see the punchline, what about the rest of the joke?
- VINLANDER, on 06/14/2008, -0/+11Educated non-rednecks...
- Draracle, on 06/14/2008, -0/+10that is why all the scarves say "HUP HOLLAND".
- norbiu, on 06/14/2008, -0/+10That would be awesome! Holland can't lose 1st place no matter what, so Van Basten should keep his top players on the bench for this one. They need to rest.
- postmortum, on 06/14/2008, -0/+10It was a beautifull game, lets hope they can keep it up. And Sneijder yesterday proved, in my opinion, that he's a serieous contender for the world's best shot.
- projektmayhem, on 06/14/2008, -0/+10i'm surprised a story like this made it to the frontpage, just because this is soccer, and euro 2008. and with respect, this site is primarily populated by the yanks!
digg surprises once again :) - sk11, on 06/14/2008, -1/+10It was one of the best matches I've seen for a while, the Dutch showed yesterday exactly why football is called the beautiful game. The passion and emotion in football is unrivalled in the world of sport. Well done Holland!
- kevdotbadger, on 06/14/2008, -3/+12Without a doubt the best game of Euro 2008 so far. It's always nice to see the French get stuffed.
- hogar983, on 06/14/2008, -1/+9Romania has a good chance if the Netherlands's selector decides to rest the key players for the quarter finals (since they're already number 1 in their group).
- nithins, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7Wow! A football story not only makes it frontpage but also into the top 10 stories!!!
I'm hoping for a portugal-netherlands final, should make for some fantastic football. - dondara, on 06/14/2008, -2/+9Great game. France got unlucky with that handball that didn't get called and Henry really screwed up missing that chip shot. He really should had put that in but the Dutch really showed their form for this tourney. Good to see Robben on his feet. I really think Holland have a shot. The back line seemed their only weak point but if you can score 4 goals, you can afford to give away a couple.
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -4/+11ROOMANIIIA !!!!
- piwy, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7I guess he means this:
"A caliphate, (from theArabic خلافة or khilaafah), is the Islamic form of government representing the political unity and leadership of the Muslim world. The head of state's position (Caliph) is based on the notion of a successor to the Islamic prophet Muhammad's political authority."
But srsly tho. You do realise you live in europe right?
Hate yourself much? - RomanThommassen, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7we won't :( cos the checz won their match vs germany 4 years ago so we went to quarter finales, van basten thinks we owe everyone that's in the position we were to win vs. Romania
- Elohir, on 06/14/2008, -1/+8No we won't. There's no shame in losing to a great team.
- Gman311, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7They play some quality football, great fun to watch plus, they have the best uniforms ever.
- piwy, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7T'is stil aan de over kant, t'is stil aan de overkant...
- Cornea, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7Yes, nothing can be more rational than hating a whole continent - although you do come close in your obvious hatred for a whole religion.
Seriously after writing something like that you should start questioning your own sanity. - Kristijan12, on 06/14/2008, -1/+8They play the best footbal on this years championship.
Even do I am no Dutch it is my favorite team. - metapop, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6the commentating on the first one was awesome. i love the dutch.
- NoEasyWayOut, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6Dutchmen... I've long waited for these orange-clad ball kickers to get far.
Favorite team to play in FIFA 95 on computer back when Windows 95 was out! (retro... word) - feliks2, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6I think you mean France 4-1. Do you think the game ends at the end of the 90th minute?
- kamisama, on 06/14/2008, -1/+7I'm not exactly pro football, but last night in the pub I saw the match with half an eye. And it has to be said, Holland simply humiliated the French. Just after the French made 2-1, Holland came back with another goal, and even that wasn't enough :)
It was a very enjoyable match to watch, even for someone who usually doesn't care. A job well done by my neighbors. I hope they win, they deserve it. -
