- asiarock, on 11/20/2008, -7/+29It's great to see football (soccer) on the front page of Digg.
- ZeroSum1975, on 11/20/2008, -2/+18Oh, it's relevant. And it's absolutely beautiful to go to a soccer match in the U.S now and watch the Chicago Fire play in front of 20,000 fans that are actually INTO the match and appreciate the play, not drunk off their asses that they don't know what's going on. Soccer, the real Football (How many times do you touch the ball with your foot in the NFL?) is coming on strong.
- michaelphw, on 11/20/2008, -2/+17Football*
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+12Who cares. Its the biggest sport in the world.
Americans insulate themselves from real international sport (and defeat) by making up their own sports so they can have complete corporate control over it, which is fine. - bianchi22, on 11/20/2008, -1/+10Direct links to the apps:

- spectacularitis, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6This makes it so much easier for those to follow - thanks for giving us this. I'll give you my honest opinion of it's use
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6yeah its much more interesting to watch 2 minutes of standing around, 20 seconds or so of play and then 5 minutes of advertisements over and over.
- bnuk013, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4i think are confusing alumina and aluminum. Aluminium is just the British spelling of the same thing.
- groberts1980, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Your logic is flawed. A typical combined hockey score can be less than 3 and it's the most exciting sport to see live. If you've never been to a live hockey game, then you have no context to disagree with me. It's not the best sport to watch on TV, but if you've been to a live game, you understand.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5Fat men in lycra running around a field after eachother smacking eachother's ass makes your sport Fagball.
You lose. - dsmx, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5The most popular sport in the world played in practically every nation on the face of the planet.
- perfectblu3, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I will never understand why football/soccer will never be popular in the USA when people can watch 162 baseball games that are at least as long and have similar score lines. I still love the NFL and NCAA football, I just wish more people would be willing to chat some BPL/La Liga/ Serie A.
Go Arsenal! - gametavern, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4In hockey, they hit people, in soccer, they get breathed on and flail around for a red card.
- bduddy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Isn't soccer the sport where teams that get relegated get gigantic "parachute payments" to get them back in right away? Forgive me, I'm just an ignorant American...
- diecastbeatdown, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3hope there is a way to avoid spoilers for certain matches.. well, guess i'd just avoid looking at it on match day.
- Narfmaster, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4Because American Football does not even involve using your foot most of the time. :[ It's essentially Rugby but ohh no, you wanted to be different.
- WHMullally, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3SWEETNESS!!
- Pottypotsworth, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Err anyone heard of iFooty for the iphone?
- tomhancocks, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I think you mean Bauxite is the ore from which Aluminium is extracted. Aluminium isn't made, as it's a base element (well at least not by any means that I know of that mankind is able to reproduce).
- orangebits, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3iFooty has been on my iPhone for months. Definitely worth a look.
The app posted here is the Accrington Stanley to iFooty's Liverpool.
[Disclaimer - I have no affiliation at all to this application] - inactive, on 11/20/2008, -7/+9Your American version is actually "throw ball" or the Grrr-Im-not-gay-I-swear! name "Grid Iron",
or maybe even "Overpaid fat drug users running around in lycra" - Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2"I am not talking the NFL, I am talking "soccer.""
Please, don't pander to the Americans. Write what you want, how you want, and anyone who disagrees be damned. Heck, I wouldn't have minded so much if you'd just called the sport "soccer" outright and never discussed the idea that other people call it something else. - kris33, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Because it isn't for fags, that's why they don't care about it.
- spectacularitis, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Great idea - I don't mind monitoring the international soccer hotties
- etx313, on 11/20/2008, -4/+6Too bad the US isn't relevant anymore.
- orlyfactor, on 11/20/2008, -3/+5Wow this is "great" for the game of "soccer". I love quotation marks.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2@ldner77
Rugby Union. - veryfishy, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3I've always been curious about this argument - why do Americans call it football if you barely use your feet to kick the thing?
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2You did such a great job at explaining Aluminum, I implore you to tackle the other 1,721 differences. Please explain how the US is at fault for these:
http://www.tysto.com/articles05/q1/20050324uk-us.s ... - norbiu, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2just football
- Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2This from the country that gave the world Baseball and American Football? As a tip, if your sport needs cheerleaders to keep the fans awake, it probably isn't that exciting.
Still, do we care if the Americans don't like it? I'm not losing any sleep over this. As long as I can watch the Premiership and Champions League, I really don't care what sports the US likes. - metapop, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2it disappoints me that such idiots lurk on digg, just waiting for an article about the world's most popular sport to hit FP so they can talk about something that they know absolutely nothing about.
anyway-
the app itself looks alright, but there is so much room for improvement. "coming soon, live scores..."
seriously? what was the main priority of this app prior to this point if it wasn't to have live scores on it? there are websites i access with my iphone if i want to see who's winning, mainly the ticker on football365.com, so i'd like to see this app offer something unique. i am glad i exists thought and hope it matures a little bit... almost as much as i hope people who say "soccer is for fags!11!1" mature. - Ellsass, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2How is it different than SportsTap, which shows scores for not just the EPL and MLS, but also La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Champions League, Brazilian League, etc. ?
- ldner77, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2it's rugby that really matters
- Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Why? "Football" is the sports name in almost every country except the US, after literal translation, so what's your problem? Are you suggesting that I have to translate "voetbal" as "soccer" just because it confuses you despite the translation being "football"? ***** you and your arrogance.
- Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Remember, if you drink milk then Ian Rush says that you could play for Accrington Stanley.
That ought to identify the age group of people around here... - ingamenow, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2sadly thats the first positive soccer comment on this thread... why so much beef?!
- 1longtime, on 11/20/2008, -3/+4I'll remember that next time I see a fairy in soccer shorts pretend he is injured by falling to the turf and crying.
Everyone should know only the NBA is allowed to do that. - metapop, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1ok- i just downloaded it, and this app is horrible. it's a big message board which isn't very intuitive... this makes no sense. the layout is horrible, this is idiotic. deleted.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2@kidathinnes
I know, I don't even like soccer, but I do like to vent and say it as I see it every now and then.
"rash generalization"
Please point out a rash generalization that I posted.
"Insecure much?"
Have you stopped beating your wife? - Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Rugby was "invented" in the town of Rugby, which is where I lived for a couple of years. Cricket, according to Wikipedia, may have its name derived from the Middle Dutch word for "stick" in the late 1500s.
There is no charge for this service. - almir, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1great

- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Now people will wonder why I'm yelling "Come on Fulham"
- nicc, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1just downloaded it...only BPL and MLS?!?
no Champions League, Spanish Primera, Italian Serie A, Dutch Ereedivisie, German Bundesliga, French League 1, UEFA?
SportsTap has all of those...so far looks like the only thing InGameNow has that sportsTap doesnt is the ability to post a message...wooo, that's exciting! /sarcasm - athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -1/+2You are getting dugg down, but it is the truth and most of these people are too ***** stubborn to admit it. It isn't a new concept that people in different areas of this planet do and say things differently.
- Maxwell1234, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Dugg for "Killer iphone..." rather than "iphone killer" if I hear that term one more times I swear...

Have a great day :) - Kelmon, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2You are watching the wrong matches. There's no denying that football can be dull to watch if you get a bad match. However, I dispute that lots of goals are necessary to make a good match (heck, even 0-0 draws can produce good matches if both teams are playing well). So far there have been some cracking matches this season where the number of goals has approached double figures in The Premiership. Still, my yardstick for a match remains the 2006 FA Cup Final. Liverpool vs West Ham United, 6 goals during the match, extra time and then a penalty shootout. Normally I don't like penalties but the whole thing was edge-of-the-seat stuff for over 2-hours.
It's not about the goals - it's about the game. -
