Honduras - IHaveCrayons, on 10/15/2009, -0/+24For all of you who don't watch football (soccer) I really recommend at least giving the World Cup a chance. It only happens once every four years and is the biggest sporting even in the world, it's just so global in aspect. These guys are not playing for money, they are playing for their countries. The games never disappoint, great spectacle.
- Joest23, on 10/15/2009, -1/+22Breaking news: most of the world cares about soccer.
- rusty11, on 10/15/2009, -2/+22TheBogie?
Buried. - paynomind, on 10/15/2009, -1/+18The site isnt even up to date. There has to be a better reference site somewhere else.
http://www.fifa.com is the winner. - rusty11, on 10/15/2009, -1/+17about 204 countries, who participated in the qualifiers
- IamNOTmrT, on 10/15/2009, -2/+16I think you already showed that in the Confederations Cup
- IamNOTmrT, on 10/15/2009, -1/+14I'd love to see a USA v. North Korea show down in the 1st round
- FormerBabby, on 10/15/2009, -9/+22...to an early exit.
- Joest23, on 10/15/2009, -2/+15I'm enthusiastic that the US qualified. I hope this is the tournament in which we can show the world that the US doesn't completely suck at soccer.
- loconet, on 10/15/2009, -2/+15"With titans like Argentina and Portugal still battling to be in the hat when the draw is made in Cape Town on December 4, it is all but natural that keen fans keep fretting in excitement and anticipation"
Argentina is already in and Portugal is getting help from FIFA. - J0hnnyBlaze, on 10/15/2009, -1/+13that was much better than the article.
- loconet, on 10/15/2009, -1/+12FIFA decided half way through qualification that the playoff groups are to be seeded (again!). For obvious reasons.
- gwtgator, on 10/15/2009, -0/+11Great ending last night to tie w/ Costa Rica 2-2...in the 94th minute.
- limpboy, on 10/15/2009, -2/+11Spain is going to the finals for sure!
England, Netherlands and Brazil have good teams this year.
Mardona is a crack head!
An African team in the top 4 maybe ??
AM HYPEEEEEEEEEEEEED! - ihavebeenseen, on 10/15/2009, -15/+24USA all the way!
- adhiza, on 10/15/2009, -1/+9England made it! Come on lads!
- ChileanGoD, on 10/15/2009, -0/+8...what's with all the hatin? We did qualify... fair and square.
- ChuqAU, on 10/15/2009, -0/+7Enthusiastic that the US qualified? There are 3.5 spots allocated to North & Central America and the only real contenders are Mexico and the USA. It would take some major screwing up for them NOT to qualify.
- lucasftw, on 10/15/2009, -1/+7Shame Charlie Davies got in that car accident, he was shaping up to be quite an asset. Hope he recovers fully and quickly.
- reticulate, on 10/16/2009, -1/+7Aussie Aussie Aussie!
- rhthekida, on 10/15/2009, -1/+7Maybe if this article had something to do with the games from yesterday it might be relevant.
- rusty11, on 10/15/2009, -1/+7not according to FIFA
they've qualified for the play-off matches in november - Otto, on 10/15/2009, -0/+5Breaking news: the USA doesn't care about the rest of the world.
- okcomputer01, on 10/15/2009, -2/+7"Portugal is getting help from FIFA."
Care to explain? - gwtgator, on 10/15/2009, -1/+6title article doesn't account for last night's games
- ChileanGoD, on 10/15/2009, -8/+13VAMOS CHILE!
- billjimbob, on 10/15/2009, -1/+5Out 3-4 months with torn knee tendon.
- p0011010, on 10/15/2009, -1/+5JAPAN!!!!!
- ChuqAU, on 10/15/2009, -0/+4North Korea ended up in the same group as South Korea in both the final two rounds of Asian qualification - and they have both qualified! They won't be in the same group but a knockout matchup is theoretically possible.
- skyblaze, on 10/15/2009, -0/+4Basically from what I understand Pot B Ukraine, Ireland, Slovenia, Bosnia and H. will play Pot A teams and have no chance of playing one another. Pot A are Portugal, Greece, Russia, and France, its unfair at how they decided to use seeding when they said they would not. It benefits the high ranked teams.
- Jnewman83, on 10/15/2009, -0/+4Well they did well enough to qualify...and the way they played in the Confederations Cup in June leads me to believe they will do well
- ChileanGoD, on 10/15/2009, -0/+4If you take into account the Japan Korea World Cup of 2002 where Argentina got out in the first round and the literally owned every the qualifiers nothing is written in advance. Anyhow, if we play the way they have been lately we're going to have a nice World Cup.
- ampdj89, on 10/16/2009, -0/+3+1 my friend.
- ShutItDown, on 10/16/2009, -1/+4Give it up.
- pitbull777, on 10/15/2009, -1/+4Beware of Chile...had the most wins during qualification, and also more goals, considering the played Argentina, Brasil, etc..
- ChileanGoD, on 10/15/2009, -1/+4http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/qualifiers/index.html
directly - drethedog, on 10/15/2009, -2/+5And call it futbol, football or futebol... Not soccer....
- gwtgator, on 10/15/2009, -1/+4Onyewu looked like he messed his knee up pretty good last night also...taken away on a stretcher, haven't heard an update on his condition.
- audiorage, on 10/15/2009, -0/+2article was written yesterday, presumable before the argentina game...
- OisinT, on 10/15/2009, -0/+2You're right... misread the numbers - thought it said Ireland 24, Italy 18 but it was the other way around.
- had3l, on 10/15/2009, -1/+3When was the last time Brazil didn't have a good team entering the World Cup?
They might suck when they get there, but their lineup is always incredible. - ggggbabybabybab, on 10/15/2009, -2/+3At this point I just hope the U.S. team does well enough not to embarass.
- stoooryteller, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1Spain looks good
- loconet, on 10/16/2009, -0/+1The fact that France is getting helped as well doesn't change the fact that Portugal is as well. Both have had a pathetic qualifying campaigned by their standards but FIFA rather have the $ they generated.
- Ellsass, on 10/16/2009, -0/+1Yeah, real disappointing at Euro 2008, the most recent major tournament. (Confederations Cup is not major.)
- mass922, on 10/15/2009, -1/+2The Yanks are coming.
- inactive, on 10/17/2009, -0/+1Ioconet,ahahah.There's a little problem in that "observation"...we werent top seeded before two games ago(hungary and malt). We drop so munch in FIFA ranking under queiroz and his qualification that many teams were above us.Including, croacia and the fact that croacia lost to england and was downsize hill for them make us the LAST (4)of that list of seeded nations.
Most probably you dont speak portuguese but go to this site, and make "copy" of text(specially the 2first paragraphs),then go to google tanslate and make "paste":http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=179043
the site is of a portuguese sports newspaper and say that,at time,we expected that ucrania(in croacia group) win their games to make us seeded if we make the draw.We werent seeded,we were in 17position on the ranking,we are seeded because croacia fails to qualify.
So...repeating:portugal is,without a question,the most bad decisions called in that group(3penalties not given);
When FIFA announced that the draw would be seeded,France was in trouble,Portugal was 4th in his group!!with 3games to play(hungary 2times and malt).We had to won our matches(which was natural us to win and were natural wins)and expected sweden to loose 2points to qualify.Above all,rumors of french lobbying on uefa to be seeded;
Portugal is the last seeded nation,not by merit(we are playing badly a year ago now)but because of croacia fails;
and...
our press and commentators said that we had to prefer a prefer a blind draw!why?seeded-france(we totally have some counts with them after some eliminations);russia-(we give to them a few years ago.7-0!!!); greece(this greece is not THAT greece.Again some counts with them) and.........with the "weakest" nations is,for example, ireland. We think that they are very strong with trapatoni and the common result with them is 1-1.
again.who is favouring who? - NoLibertarians, on 10/16/2009, -3/+3Yes son, I'm sure all the riots at soccer games across the globe are TV friendly, especially for kids /s.
American's play tons of sports. There are kids leagues everywhere including soccer leagues. Now don't get me wrong, soccer is a fine sport for kids learning motor skills. But not a sport for grownups. It's also, with the exception of golf, the most boring sport in the universe to watch.
Now take a man's sport like Football, you won't see much of that played in these sissy countries like Chile or Argentina! Oh yes these soccer players collide and fall down and cry, but usually it's just their ego that's hurt. Its just not an adult sport! -
