- Rotzooi, on 06/21/2008, -1/+65Painful to watch. The Russians were superior and deservedly won.
There was nothing left of the glorious Clockwork Orange that we saw in the first three matches.
Good for Guus Hiddink, I hope he manages to get to the final with his team. - DLRULZ, on 06/22/2008, -0/+50Arshavin's price tag just went through the roof.
- inactive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+46Russia really dominated this game.
I was sad to see the dutch go :( - maing, on 06/21/2008, -1/+46Arshavin is one of the best players i've seen in Euro 2008.
- nattfodd, on 06/21/2008, -8/+42FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!!!
- daonlyfreez, on 06/22/2008, -4/+34Utterly disappointing (I'm a Dutchman)...
When will Oranje learn? They should have kept the team out of the media-rumble that praised them into Nirvana. The old "arrogance" showed again.
Van Basten did an excellent job btw, I wouldn't blame him for anything, it was the players' own lameness that caused this to happen.
And, I blame the public, the so-called "Oranje-fans" in the stadium. I didn't hear them at all! Where is the support, where is the cheering when the team needs it? No, these were no real fans, these were the same kind of "fans" that sit in the skyboxes in the Ajax-stadium, sipping their champagne, and only cheering if things go well...
F'ing frustrating...
Gosh, I do hope someone kicks the bloody Germans out (I live in Germany), anybody but the Germans should become EC-champions.
Go Russia! - darkchild82, on 06/22/2008, -0/+28It was very disappointing. But you have to give credit where credit is due - Russia played very well. I don't know why the Netherlands didn't show the same brilliance they did in the first 3 matches, which they all won. Same was the case with Portugal. Irony is, Guus Hiddink is Dutch. Now, I just hope Italy don't make it.
- fraggle35, on 06/22/2008, -1/+25I drew Russia in my works sweep stake and everyone laughed, who's laughing now?
- RomanThommassen, on 06/22/2008, -0/+21after 110 minutes he still had the energy to totally outplay our middfielders and defenders, he was incredible.
- kappuru, on 06/22/2008, -1/+17This tournament has really been one for the underdogs, I must say.
Anyone else impressed with Turkey? They're reminding me of South Korea's "Red Devils" in the 2002 World Cup and their 'never say die' attitude, I'm especially impressed with the way they dispatched the czechs and croatia, pure brilliance.. I can only cross my fingers and hope they can limp through the next game and somehow beat Germany to advance to the finals with a full strength team.
Brilliant play this tournament, and ESPN even has the decency to broadcast it to us ignorant americans! - kappuru, on 06/22/2008, -0/+13Seriously, after the last WC i hope Italy chokes and dies, especially if it were to go to PKs.
- Rizoh, on 06/21/2008, -2/+13That was an unbelievable game. For a while it looked like no one was ever going to score.
- hiteshsharma, on 06/22/2008, -0/+10He's the highest paid Russian footballer and no doubt he has deserves his price tag..
- bonjourmr, on 06/22/2008, -1/+10Guus Hiddink is a genius, nothing more nothing less.
Netherlands -> Semi Finals in 98 World Cup
South Korea -> Semi Finals in 2002 World Cup
Australia -> Second Round in 2006 World Cup
Russia -> at least 4th place in 2008 Euro
Other than the Netherlands team of 98, lets face it - the teams he has guided to these pinnacles do not contain very many well known or key icon players. - xNIBx, on 06/22/2008, -0/+9Arshavin plays in Zenit. Zenit is owned by Gazprom. Gazprom = more money than God(total assets= 4 TRILLION US dollars). They can certainly afford to keep him. The problem with russian teams is that they cant really get quality foreign players to play in their teams. Even though they have the money and the will to buy them, not many are willing to play in Russia(too damn cold).
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -1/+10sucks for you cuz your missing one hell of a tourny.
- myshl0ng, on 06/22/2008, -0/+8I cried like a baby whos candy has just been taken when Russia won.
- Twenty, on 06/22/2008, -1/+9Thank you both so much for those comments. I lost whatever respect I had for Italy after their quarterfinal vs. Australia. Come on!
- katagana, on 06/22/2008, -0/+7I think that the Dutch team was really affected by the personal tragedy of Boulahrouz and his Wife, they had really low moral.. It's a shame that it had to end this way, they played so incredibly well in the first games.
It is really sad that this was Van der Sar's last Tournament for Orange, he is the best keeper in the world, period! He is the most popular Dutch player aswell.. - drunkmonkey01, on 06/22/2008, -1/+7good sportsmanship
- caliberof22, on 06/22/2008, -2/+8This has been a crazy tournament indeed. Turkey, Russia... Changing of the guard maybe? Italy will pull through though.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -2/+8And Italy is a team filled with metrosexual faggets who take a dive on every tackle.
- HunterSlayer, on 06/22/2008, -1/+7I must say that this has been the best Euro...if not the best football tournament I have ever seen. The fact that underdogs like Turkey and Russia are beating the greatest national teams in the world have brought a sense of exhilaration and unpredictability that I have never witnessed before. In fact, all of my friends who were usually hated the game for idiotic reasons like "they never score that much" or "the game is too long and there is no action involved" now absolutely love it. I may have no idea who to root for but I don't care because now me and my mates can finally all enjoy watching the beautiful game.
- coldfusion1970, on 06/22/2008, -0/+6Apparently he has told Zenit that he wants to leave, so there will be a scramble for him after the Euros.
- H3nk387, on 06/22/2008, -2/+8Russia are really good atm, very fun to watch them play. Hope they go far, they deserve it. And this is coming from a Swede. :-)
- WebCester, on 06/22/2008, -1/+7I live in Basel, and it was great seeing all of the Dutch fans in town yesterday (an estimated 180 000 fan in total!).
Too bad they lost, the whole mood was very subdued after the game. I have no doubt that it would have been the largest party Basel had ever seen if the Oranjes had won. Anyway, Dutch fans are a lot more pleasant than the Germans. - keikei23, on 06/22/2008, -6/+11Very interesting game. If Russia keeps it up like this, they can go all the way. As for the next game (Italy vs Spain) go Italy! cause as they say, the deeper in the tournament they get the better they play. GO ITALY!
- ShaoKahn, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5He's not lucky, he's Dutch.
- ToMZiLLA, on 06/22/2008, -5/+10hurray for day old news!
- Kvasaari, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Russians just outplayed the Dutch.
- rtaibah, on 05/22/2009, -2/+7Change of the guard, hardly...
It's not the first time underdogs do well. Korea, Turkey 2002, Russia 88, Danes 92, Croatia 98, Greece 04....this is football. - makenzyRUS, on 06/22/2008, -1/+6It was amazing!! I hope that Russia will become a champion of the Euro2008. (Russia vpered!!!!!)
- mal1964, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Turkey has been fun to watch, Also as a America I rarely watch football/soccer and I've tried many times. This tournament has turned me unlike any of the world cups, I really have enjoyed watching it and now appreciate the game. And now I'm pissed off because I'm watching the replay and its a 1-1 tie at 94 minutes but now i know the final score.
- inactive, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Its sucks when politics have to a play a part in sports. That ***** should be left outside of the game.
- D4rklight, on 06/22/2008, -1/+6you mean the better they act like someone almost killed'em so they can squeeze out another penalty?
- RomanThommassen, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5he's the best coach in the world... PSV, austraila, korea, and now russia... he's a legend.
- Kristijan12, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4I agree on Van der Sar!
- hamidious, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4Superb performance by the Russians.
The dutch team lost its flair for the night, not the performance I expected from the team that defeated Italy and France. - Jerky1312, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4Hoping for a Turkey - Russia final.
- DrJohnYalcin, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4Yes you're right. Turkey has won three games after the other team scored first and the only other team to do this thus far is Spain. But with many of the Turks injured and suspended, they will have to come up with something brilliant when they face Germany.
- Akronos, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4Interesting. Though I think Arshavin deserves to be able to play with the best teams. I heard he might go to Arsenal, which would be awesome.
- mu0p, on 06/22/2008, -0/+4agree totally...they seemed to have beaten the Dutch at their own game of relentless and fast attacks and counterattacks, the dutch seemed dumbfounded. The russians were also much much quicker and were able to beat the Dutch defense to almost every ball. I went into the game thinking the Dutch were shoo-ins, and came out of the game completely impressed by Russia.
Also, Euro 2008 is like the cherry on top of my summer. - Gneisbaard, on 06/22/2008, -1/+5Even though i'm dutch, I feel that Russia deserved to win. The russians played a far better game. If Russia had played with 10 players in the extra time, Netherlands might have won, but it wouldn't have been deserved.
- mu0p, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3Turkey barely scraped by in the Croatia match. Croatia had about 9 or 10 100% chances at goal that they blew, and because they couldn't finish, it was tied into penalty kicks. Croatians dominated the game in my eyes.
- coldfusion1970, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3I also think Gomez was good to continue, but i guess the ref would have been slaughtered if Gomez had suffered any serious brain injury because he left them too long. He was taking a LOT of big shots to the head.
- phenom2k7, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3Yea, Russia deserved the win. Holland simply peaked too soon. They looked like a completely different team to the one who dominated in the group stage. It was disappointing to watch.
- Mannyy, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3Horrah
- hiteshsharma, on 06/22/2008, -1/+4Great game... Dutch just could not cope with the pace of Russians. Russians are the real surprise pack of the tournament.
But still to see hoe do they fare against Bigger Giants.. - inactive, on 06/22/2008, -2/+5You wish.
- coldfusion1970, on 06/22/2008, -0/+3They might able to financially satisfy him, but he now apparently wants to leave.
Theres no doubt that next season he will be playing in one of the two big leagues (England or Spain). -
