- sandemanport, on 06/23/2009, -0/+12that's right they weren't hookers, they were Ladies of the Night, you know Gentlewomen ... get it straight media!
- rabidlemur, on 06/23/2009, -1/+9Only in America.
- Boogiedude, on 06/23/2009, -5/+12The fact that Egypt has always been crap at football is merely a coincidence.
- wisam, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6As an Egyptian, I'd like to clarify some points.
The whole article is misleading.
What's with quoting the word lies? The accusations were proven to be lies in a press conference atteneded by FIFA officials, the organizing comittee and the Police Chief.
Besides, nobody said that the false accusations of the players accompanying hookers were "the" or even "a" reason of the defeat.
What happened is that a presenter of a very famous night show (Cairo Today or Alqahera Alyoum) libeled the players just after the show. This caused a war of exchanged insults between the team and the presenter on his show. You see, extramartial sex is socially unacceptable in Egypt. Such accusations are considered very insulting. The players were literally passing the phone around during the call-in. They also called several talk shows that night and whole thing became a big fuss.
The whole thing happened AFTER the match.
It's true that whole thing covered over the terrible defeat.
To the favor of the players, the match itself wasn't even discussed.
But to say that the team blammed the defeat on the false news is not true and absurd. - duniyadnd, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6@07dcolem: If the content was from sources and submitters based in the US then we wouldn't have this article on the front page then would we??
- X0rn, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6I`m predicting that the most interesting events in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa will happen outside the stadium.
I wonder how anybody can think that South Africa could handle such an event. - Heiminator, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6@07dcolem:where was the sport invented?
- oneonlydk, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Who would cop to being robbed by hookers?
- Shorterman, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5Heh, being African I have been used to seeing Egyptians whining about their losses in football games. I remember after watching the game with a couple of friends, I said "Watch tomorrow the Egyptians are going to come out with a statement as to why they lost the game." and all my friends agreed.
- Airbear007, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Life's a bitch sometimes.
- mogydy, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4Egypt has the best record from all African teams, they have played extremely well during this cup with a win against Italy.
I would add that it is more than time for the FIFA to get their ***** together and allow more African teams into the world cup. i mean WTF, 5 places for 53 countries with Europe having 14 places from 47!! - aoki5, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2its sad that politics get you exitted on cups instead of the actual game, whats is the world coming to
- theBean42, on 06/23/2009, -0/+22 countries, 1 cup
- Yzerfontein, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2R19,000 was spent on boozing .... the theft was a coverup
- sims11tz, on 06/23/2009, -2/+4I can't believe the article didn't touch on this.... Of course they got robbed. I love how it also states that Brazilian players were robbed. This world cup is going to BE NUTS!!! If you plan on attending you are insane.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 06/23/2009, -4/+5Whiney Egyptian bitches are whiney.
- roccanet, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2no doubt - SA can be pretty wild...
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -3/+4'It's called soccer.'
LOL. Carry on. - biffnix, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2Didn't "deserve" it? Deserve has nothing to do with it. If football were played on paper, then the best teams would always win. That's why they actually play the matches, my friend. USA footballers may not be the best in the world, but we're not awful by a long stretch either. I hope you can give credit where credit is due.
Seeing underdogs play with heart, honor, and skill and come away with the unexpected victory is what sport is all about. That's why we loved Egypt being able to get the points from Italy, and play with such heart against Brazil. That's why Americans were rooting for the Iraq football team when they beat Portugal, Costa Rica, and Australia in the 2004 Olympics!
It's not political. It's about men playing their hearts out in front of thousands of screaming fans, and on any given day, it could go to any team who wants it more. It's the beautiful game, and we love it, even right here in the USA.
Enjoy the tournament, cheer on your team, and give respect to the players who give their very best.
Cheers to all! - aforsberg, on 06/23/2009, -1/+2Egypt have blamed their Confederations Cup exit on media
Egypt have blamed
Egypt have
>:[ - HBZ55, on 06/23/2009, -1/+1And I can't believe people have been commenting about Egypt being ***** at football, they won against the world champions, just barely lost 4-3 to the gods of football, but suffered a 3-0 defeat against the US team.
To be honest, I didn't think the US deserved to qualify, they just got lucky. - basmakaled, on 11/14/2009, -0/+0Life's a bitch sometimes.
