- huntermcwhite, on 02/15/2009, -2/+32What galaxy was he in before?
- zoziw, on 02/15/2009, -0/+16I'm happy to hear they are getting their mascot back.
- mypetridish, on 02/15/2009, -0/+16He made the choice of going to the states; no offense to the MLS, but he knew that the majority of European players who join MLS are close to retirement and have little chance to shine as much as they had in Europe.
In addition, if AC Milan wanted Beckham they should have understood the loss Galaxy would have incurred after paying so much for the player initially. It was a football and business decision on Galaxy's part. - snkscore, on 02/15/2009, -1/+14If you think Posh is more popular than David in the US, you are an idiot.
- str1fe, on 02/15/2009, -1/+10I think Beckham is the only soccer player 90% of Americans know, honestly. :/
- mypetridish, on 02/15/2009, -1/+10who's posh spice?
- Jeffler, on 02/15/2009, -0/+9Sports section. You need 30-80 diggs for sports. I'm basically the king of the hockey section and usually I need about 50.
- slyzxx, on 02/15/2009, -0/+8Americans are not big on soccer as the rest of the world so whats the biggie in keeping him here other than the obvious celeb factor?
- Duncast, on 02/15/2009, -7/+15It's a shame really. He was doing really well in Italy. What he is doing with the MLS certainly is not up to his callibre.
- Pinkshisno, on 02/15/2009, -1/+9And you are commenting on a football article why?
- FreddieD, on 02/15/2009, -1/+8Nobody forced him to sign a contract with the MLS. He was on a significant downswing when he signed with the MLS... not only stripped of his captaincy but was completely removed from England's national team, and was told he would never start for Real Madrid again. All indicators was that his career was about to take a huge downturn, so when he was thrown a *lot* of money for the MLS, it was probably a smart move.
- FreddieD, on 02/15/2009, -1/+8Can we please agree that it is possible to love soccer and dislike Nickelback?
- rick2k, on 02/15/2009, -0/+6***** you.
- snkscore, on 02/15/2009, -0/+6I think things would be best if LA let him go. Get 15MM for him, and start rebuilding your team.
- m3mn0n, on 02/15/2009, -0/+6Her name is Posh.
- JackondaRocks, on 02/15/2009, -0/+6Somewhere far, far away...
- chicagospur, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5Super Mario Galaxy
- FreddieD, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5That's the thing, the MLS *wants* americans to be big on soccer.. or, at least bigger. The only way their league is going to grow is to either hype up some of the few homegrown names, or bring in star power players who are on their waning years. Beckham thought his best days were behind him or else there is no way he would have left Europe in the first place.
- str1fe, on 02/15/2009, -1/+5Customize > Sports > Soccer > Uncheck
- ANTZinYOpantz, on 02/15/2009, -6/+10that sucks, he has to go back to a garbage league and team instead of playin with the big boys were he belongs
- vagrantwade, on 02/15/2009, -0/+4He belongs in America where we forget what he does but love to see him and his wife at red carpet events.
- FreddieD, on 02/15/2009, -0/+4If you were stripped of your captaincy and kicked off of the national team, told by your coach that you would never start with them again, thought that your best days were probably behind you and then offered an incredible amount of money to play in a subpar league, would you do it?
Hindsight is 20/20 - V1ncent, on 02/15/2009, -1/+5He came to the States for money. He can leave without it.
- suprfli, on 02/15/2009, -8/+11Wow. How is this on the front page with 35 diggs and 1 comment? Does the new Digg algorithm go nuts when a Nickelback fan submits a US soccer article? It's almost too bizarre to believe and the system goes haywire.
- snkscore, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3He makes LA, and the league, a lot of money, so if they are going to lose him, they need to get a good transfer fee from ACM, and they didn't put enough on the table.
- nickceleb, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3***** Nickleback.
- KotZer, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3He should read the Hitchhiker's guide to Galaxy... There he could find the answer to scoring, passing and everything
- m3arvk, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3You think Posh Spice is more famous than David Beckham? Pull your head out of your ass.
- exeprime, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2Galacticos. Real Madrid.
- triplehelix, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1really i think c. ronaldo has a different take on it...
- kahn2001, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1LOL!, so true...
- stilesja, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1Yeah, go ask a few random people what the name of LA's MLS team is. After they ask you what MLS stands for, they'll be like "how the hell should I know?" Then ask them what the name of of that pop group from the 90's was that made the phrase "Girl Power" famous.
After you conduct my little poll you will realize that it is not my head up my ass, but rather your head up David Beckham's. - Teku, on 02/15/2009, -1/+2You don't leave America, America leaves you.
- m3arvk, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1But I didn't say anything about MLS did I?
Ask them instead either:
a) What's the name of that movie about girl soccer players from England? Bend it like who?
b) To name a famous English soccer player. - joerod, on 02/15/2009, -3/+4he should have stayed in Europe in the first place the MLS is weak.
- m3arvk, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1Now that I think about it this was probably always the case. This is probably the politest way Beckham could say MLS sucks.
There was no way Milan were going to pay what the Galaxy enough to make the move permanent. Beckham's a good player but he's no longer the superstar that he was at Man Utd. - gincarnated, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1Unfortunate for Becks. I blame Steve 'the *****' McLaren and 'Posh'. England really need him as he's still one of our best performers. It's all a bit humorous really but I hope there's still a place for him in Milan and England come christmas.
- jemka, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1"David Beckham returning to Galaxy"
Which galaxy is he from? And do you think Posh Spice will enjoy it more/less than the Milky Way? - illt, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1i thought it was obvious at this point...
hammer deemed it front page worthy. - joeboy70, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1i don't see the what purpose beckham playing for galaxy will serve any more. the media and fans in the states will be cold towards him - understandably so - and his heart will still be in milan - equally understandable. it's surely best for all parties if galaxy and ac milan can forge a deal.
- orlandorays, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1He signed a contract. That may not matter anymore in Europe, but it still does in American sports.
- statuescrumble, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1He travels by bending space time with his freekicks
- GalacticRerun, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1So now he can just walk out at the end of the season for free.
- Irashtar, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1The headline made me think he actually left scientology. so nope, don't care where he moved he overpriced feet.
- Ghiren, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1It's hard to say. Scientology takes people to some weird places, I guess.
- GalacticRerun, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1That's funny, most of us him turning down Milan for LA was a bad idea even back then. It had nothing to do with hindsight.
- paradigmxx, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1I'm wondering myself.
- andrewa, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1I think that there's a button specifically for that purpose... No need to join the league of trolls.
- FreddieD, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1And long, long ago.
- Pixelante, on 02/15/2009, -1/+1When did Beckham become an astronaut, and when did we develop an intergalactic FTL drive?
