- cmf2071, on 02/23/2009, -2/+9Those fixtures could scarcely be better: Fergie v Mourinho is always a classic, Ranieri back at Chelsea and Benitez in Madrid. And let's hope Arshavin proves his worth against Roma. Come on Arsenal !!!
- Spinney, on 02/24/2009, -2/+8Let me list off how wrong you are.
Liverpool-
Steven Gerrard, Captain, Best Player
Jamie Carragher, Vice Captain
Manchester United-
Rooney, Huge Impact player,
Ferdinand, Captain, Heart of the defense
Chelsea-
John Terry, Captain, Heart of the defense
Frank Lampard, Fantastic Midfield
Arsenal-
Theo Walcott- One of the most exciting prospects in football, form has slipped since he has been hurt.
Nah none of those english players matter at all. Your right. - Stavrosian, on 02/24/2009, -2/+7When discussing what I would ordinarily call American Football with fans of the sport, I refer to it as "football" simply to respect the culture. It doesn't make me a wannabe American, and the same is true of any American who would choose to speak to European sports fans in our own terms.
Since this is about English and Italian clubs, it's fair to assume that most of the interest is European. While we will of course understand what people mean by saying soccer (a term we use ourselves colloquially, as you probably know) we will also appreciate people making the effort to respect our sporting culture and its terminology.
Also, ***** off. - S1KING, on 02/24/2009, -1/+6Arshavin has already played for Zenit St. Petersburg in the group stage of the tournament, and is therefore cup-tied and can't play for Arsenal against Roma.
- mon007, on 02/24/2009, -2/+5Its football dude.
- skyjis6, on 02/24/2009, -0/+3I'm really looking forward to seeing Zlatlan go against Christiano. Wish i could be on the pitch for these games
- Salinator, on 02/24/2009, -2/+4Dugg for some good soccer matches this week
- shoff88, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3Dugg for number 9 being crossed out
- ptFoe, on 02/24/2009, -2/+4The English teams will beat the Italian teams, pity this doesn't translate into WC success.
- GalacticRerun, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Now that is a reponse worth printing out and framing.
- mon007, on 02/24/2009, -2/+4everyone except americans call it football. not just euro chaps.
- 22justin, on 02/24/2009, -3/+5and it never will *****...bow down to 4 world cups
- CozySar, on 02/24/2009, -2/+3Too right. And if it's only the first one that's a douchebag then the tossers in the US still have everyone beat. Because they're ALL douchebags. Footy in the US is only rugby anyway. Except they're too pussy to play the game as it's supposed to be played. They want to have astronaut helmets and Barbara Stanwyck shoulder pads. It helps them pretend they're real men.
- rtaibah, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2Nice so out of 3 teams you managed to find 7 players?
Anyways the case is better with Juventus and Roma, who actually have Italian players on their squads.
As for Inter, their last match against Cagliari had 4 Brazilians, 2 Argentinians, 1 Swede, a Serb, A Ghanian, and a French....and ONLY 1 Italian player, and he is only 18 ...LOL - rtaibah, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2Oh comon Sissoko isn't that bad, actually I would say that he is Juve's best signing in the past 3 years...
Oh and ya Calcio kicks the EPL ass any time of the year :P - jfts09, on 02/24/2009, -2/+2Dugg for Christiano Renaldo comparing himself to god and Rooney thinking that he is as good as Zidane
- cdhill, on 02/24/2009, -4/+4I having rooting interests in Roma, but I'll probably watch more of the Inter / Man U match as they both sit top their respective tables.
Oh, and above: Arshavin played for Zenit St. Petersburg earlier in CL, thus ruling him out of tomorrow's match. Forza Roma! Vai vai vai! Arsenal, vafunculo! - bstepanian, on 02/24/2009, -2/+2Go Inter!
- arangu, on 02/26/2009, -0/+0the number one is absolutely right. ronaldo such an arrogant player. really annoying! let he go to real madrid and see his career will go down crash. anybody agree wiht me?he3.. ronaldo..u wont b last long i think :P
sincere, www.alangcyber.com - BenTheTank, on 02/24/2009, -3/+2@Stavrosian,
The problem is not with Americans who choose to refer to the sport as Football to respect the culture, but the all-too-common pretentious American who enjoys 'correcting' other Americans with comments like "It's called football dude." These irritating Euro-wanna-bes (and that's exactly what they are) seem to get a sense of self righteousness from it, and it couldn't be more pathetic.
Since you are seemingly not a U.S. resident, I wouldn't really expect you to understand. - 22justin, on 02/24/2009, -5/+4***** THE EPL AND THE ENGLISH MEDIA..SERIE A WILL TEACH THESE LIMEY ***** A LESSON
- ucccft, on 02/24/2009, -5/+2Italy v England ? England? LOL! I think not.
Just how many players on Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, or Liverpool are ENGLISH? NONE!
I mean IMPACT players? Players that matter.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, or Liverpool Just how Managers are ENGLISH? NONE!
Nothing is English on or about these teams. Nothing!
Italy v England ? LOL! - inactive, on 02/24/2009, -5/+2Digg needs more stalkers.
- nraphael, on 02/24/2009, -4/+0Yawn. Boring article. Fantastic games but deathly drab article. I didn't even smile.
- shzdeR, on 02/24/2009, -5/+1How does 81 diggs and 4 comments put this on FP? I'm a footy fan, but I just don't know how or why things like this happen...
then someone will reply with
(insert why i hate footy, or why footy sucks, or how other sports are better) - BenTheTank, on 02/24/2009, -11/+3The first U.S. resident to call this sport "football" is a Euro-wanna-be douchebag.
