- illogik, on 06/28/2009, -6/+176Hold your head up USA. Awesome performance.
- amprather, on 06/28/2009, -12/+82They say that 2-0 is the most dangerous score in soccer, because most comebacks come from that score. Today proved that point again.
- ogmak, on 06/28/2009, -4/+58Brazil always wins. I thought we had a chance, who was I kidding...
- FirstCuts, on 06/28/2009, -2/+52That goal to start the second half was one of those ones that makes you start sweating bullets. The game was never the same.
- lastexit07, on 06/28/2009, -4/+50Ugh, Brazil sure woke up in the second half. Can't ask much more from the U.S.
- drunkmuppet, on 06/28/2009, -16/+60I wish the United States had won. :(
- brownsound00, on 06/28/2009, -5/+42Now hopefully people in America can start to support soccer/football, and we'll see a gradual improvement in the national team over the years coming up
- ogmak, on 06/28/2009, -4/+35Perhaps some hope for the world cup next year? It would make it a lot more interesting...
- ChileanGoD, on 06/28/2009, -10/+39That second goal of the US had "OWNED" written all over it.
- brownsound00, on 06/28/2009, -7/+33I would say this is a win for the US. Leading against one of the greatest soccer powers of all time for 70 minutes of the game is ridiculous. It was inevitable that Brazil would score to tie and win, but the USA put up a tough fight. Their defense was excellent, but the never ending waves of attack eventually broke them down. If they had some better midfield possession, they would have won the game. Great effort, and a lot of promise showed for future tourneys.
- loconet, on 06/28/2009, -2/+27That's because Ronaldinho is nowhere near the level he was once.
- bearcat8543, on 06/28/2009, -2/+26if the US didnt have howard play the way he did it wouldve been a slaughter. hes a keeper (har har).
- Niubai, on 06/28/2009, -8/+29It was a great game. USA improved their game a lot since the first game, where we won 3x0. It was a great match, both teams could have won, and you guys should be really proud of your team, congrats.
Where's Spain ? I thought they said they were better than us and wanted to beat us at the finals. Once "pipoqueiros", always "pipoqueiros". - henrysdress, on 06/28/2009, -4/+22***** VUVUZELAS. I hope they ban them in the world up next year.
- Type1, on 06/28/2009, -2/+20Great game, great final, great teams. USA, you've improved.
- jets331, on 06/28/2009, -7/+25Hopefully we can ride the wave of support to the world cup and put up a good effort. Would be really great to see our team go deep into the tournament.
- Xihix, on 06/28/2009, -4/+21The score should have been 4-2. Stupid referees can't see for *****.
- Shadic, on 06/28/2009, -13/+29AMERICA, ***** YEAH.
- superkeer, on 06/28/2009, -3/+19It was the best goal of the game and one of the best of the tournament when looking at how it developed so perfectly.
- superkeer, on 06/28/2009, -2/+18Kaka overrated?
Just the fact that he was on the field ended up opening things up for the Brazilians. Stop only looking at what players are doing when they have the ball and start to look around at the overall, indirect impact they have on a game, particularly how they play off the ball.
If he gets his boot more cleanly on a few of the strikes he took today people would be singing his name in the streets of Rio tonight.
Dunga's tactical approach owes a lot to people scratching their head over Kaka. But to call him overrated is a real stretch. - BridgeBurner, on 06/28/2009, -3/+18Davies made some crap decisions with numbers deep in Brazil territory in the second half that could have made a difference.
A good game and effort by the US national team nonetheless.
Congrats to Brazil! - neilyn, on 06/28/2009, -6/+20if the ref doesn't call it a goal it's not a goal. could have been 4-2, should have been 4-2, but actually it was 3-2
- pinguz, on 06/28/2009, -2/+16You've already come a very long way since the 1994 world cup. I remember that your best player was some rock guitarist, and that the majority of the US wasn't even aware of the fact that they were hosting the world cup. And today, 15 years later, you almost beat Brazil. Quite an improvement, I would say...
- illogik, on 06/28/2009, -4/+16Oh there is plenty of hope, we just need to possess the ball a bit more to create chances. I feel like our defense is top notch.
- dieboldcracy, on 06/28/2009, -2/+1345 minute halves, no commercial breaks- will never fly in America
- ChileanGoD, on 06/28/2009, -2/+13Yes, great performance. Too bad the USA choose to sat down with their lead instead of keeping the pressure on Brazil. After the first half Brazil things were looking pretty grim and they managed to comeback. Like always Brazil finds that magic to win key matches. Never the less, the US has a strong team now that will certainly make a long run in the next world cup.
Ohh.. and by the way... We're coming for you guys in September, we want that first spot in the southamerican world cup qualies. ;) - OasisR123, on 06/28/2009, -1/+12Since you repeated your comment http://digg.com/soccer/Brazil_Comes_From_Behind_to ...
I'll repeat mine too:
Nelson says: HA HA! - P4Paarth, on 06/28/2009, -2/+12Disappointing loss, but I hope that this might inspire some more Soccer spirit in the U.S.
It did for me; something about seeing my country playing on the world stage with all eyes on them made me really pumped up. Here's to an exciting FIFA World Cup next year with a strong U.S. showing! - Uddhav, on 06/28/2009, -3/+13It's Brazil, they aren't really known for defensive play, most of them play to attack. It's not a win for us because we lost, it's not a 70 min. game. We have ways to go to become a world beating team. I hope more players come forward, we've been hanging on to Donovan since '94 and he is still one of our best players.
- micahgoulart, on 06/28/2009, -0/+10I understand the frustration but to think Kaká is overrated is really a bad assessment. To NBA fans, that would be like saying Chris Paul is overrated...makes no sense to anyone who knows the game. Just look at the chances he created, specifically watch the 2nd Brazilian goal again and notice how the dominates the defense by getting to the backline and crossing it in. Killer pass.
- ChileanGoD, on 06/28/2009, -1/+10Shhht! Dont tell them.. With the cultural diversity and their population... if soccer takes off as a popular sport in the US they will become a super power.
- supertom, on 06/28/2009, -21/+30Football, not soccer. Thank you.
- brownsound00, on 06/28/2009, -3/+11Well, you guys did have a chance. And in my eyes, this was a victory for America. They scored 2 goals against one of the best countries in the history of soccer, not to mention this same team got owned 3-0 to Brazil already.
- Jabrams2, on 06/28/2009, -1/+9overrated??? How can you say that. The guy was creating SO many chances. It seemed like almost every time he touched the ball, something positive came from it. Just because he did not score does not mean he did not have a HUGE impact on the game. We need more players like that on U.S. if we want to have any chance of doing something in the World Cup next year.
- EvilCan, on 06/28/2009, -3/+11This is an American website about the US soccer team, so you can see why a lot of people are calling it soccer.
- gakboi, on 06/28/2009, -1/+9amazing keeper.. one of the worolds best in current form
- superkeer, on 06/28/2009, -5/+13Awesome first half performance. The second half was amateur hour, at best. It truly exposed that the US really didn't know what to do with a lead against a superior team. Their lack of defensive depth was exposed, their inability to cope with the pace required to win a huge game was exposed, and they have absolutely no one who can play a holding midfield role. They have to address those issues if they want to get to the knockout round next year.
First half: fantastic. Second half: very, very poor, and the fact that they were playing Brazil cannot be used as an excuse. - gakboi, on 06/28/2009, -1/+8thats why he setup the goal that won the game?...... and scored a perfectly good goal which was disallowed?
- MattyC69, on 06/28/2009, -2/+9South Africa also did really well against Spain for 3rd and 4th place. I look at the USA and SA as two under-rated teams who really pulled out all the stops in the Confed Cup. Both showed tremendous improvement towards the end and even though both teams lost their respective finals, they should hold their heads up high for how well they did, and take what they learnt back with them in preperation for the World Cup in 2010.
- swiftekho, on 06/29/2009, -0/+7I was very, very proud of the US. Being a soccer fan nothing sucked more than to see my home team play with less pride and heart than other countries. I'm very excited to see not only the U.S. team show as much heart as they did in playing the greatest soccer country ever but the fact that non-soccer fans are now talking more and more about soccer. Hopefully this run can extend into the 2010 World Cup and will get awareness and progress to climb in United States soccer.
- DamnedSaint, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8Who cares what's it called? It still is the best sport in the world.
- gianttoolbox11, on 06/28/2009, -1/+7This isn't 2005, Gr1nch, Ronaldinho is NOT good. He doesn't start for his club, what would make you think he should start for his country?
- micahgoulart, on 06/28/2009, -8/+14Quite a letdown for Americans, eh?
US needs to realize they still have a ways to go. Brazil had a heartbreak in 1950, losing at home, 2-1 to Uruguay before 200,000 fans. 8 years later we won our first World Cup and never looked back.
5 World Cups later and everyone knows you can't count us out of a game because we know what it's like to lose in the final.
The US knows that feeling now, and they'll come back hungrier next year. - sloppychris, on 06/28/2009, -1/+7Yet no major American sports have advertising front and center on jerseys.
- gakboi, on 06/28/2009, -0/+6you didn't choke.. just got beaten by a far superior team. Good effort though
- Doc123, on 06/28/2009, -0/+6As Spaniard.. i thought the U.S played really well
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 06/28/2009, -4/+10That second half was painful to watch. Brazil came out and just wanted it more than the US. It's a sad loss but getting to our first FIFA final is an accomplishment in itself. I'm confident that this team can be dangerous in the World Cup next summer.
- Viperidae, on 06/28/2009, -4/+10Yes its football not soccer. The game commonly played in the US is called handegg.
- henrysdress, on 06/28/2009, -5/+11Great Job America, and especially Tim Howard. Some ***** great saves throughout the tournament.
We won't be winning any world cups anytime soon, but hopefully this tournament will give some of our players experience overseas. I hope Jozy get's picked up by Fullham! - teessidedazza, on 06/28/2009, -0/+5Agreed...when I saw Howard at Man United I was not impressed (although ne could see there was some talent there) Everton have got the best out of him and he looks good...
