- Stavrosian, on 10/19/2009, -0/+26It should not have been allowed, according to former Prem referee Jeff Winter. He strongly criticised the ref and his assistants for allowing the goal to stand given that the rules clearly state that in the event of outside interference in the game, play shall be restarted with a dropped ball.
- Brak710101, on 10/19/2009, -0/+22I don't understand why play didn't stop as soon as the beach ball entered the field. In hockey anything foreign on the ice is reason for a stoppage of play.
- WordsnCollision, on 10/17/2009, -2/+24Yeah, I know it's the "Daily Fail" but they feature a great photographic sequence of events.
- dawgma, on 10/18/2009, -0/+20Why in the world was this allowed? Was it because the goal tender had the opportunity to remove the beach ball earlier but didn't?
- kaiteng, on 10/19/2009, -1/+14That kid who tossed the beach ball in should better watch his back.
- novicechap, on 10/18/2009, -2/+15http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Kun2g_NXS4
- dsmx, on 10/18/2009, -3/+11It's funnier that thee beach ball was in an offside position then drifted back onside as the shot came in a knocked the ball into the back of the net. Ruud Van Nistelroy would of been proud.
- WordsnCollision, on 10/18/2009, -1/+9That's hilarious that they sound-tracked the video with Nena's "99 Red Balloons".
- kenyan, on 10/19/2009, -0/+8But that clip shows you exactly why it made all the difference. The goalie had the ball that was curling but then the beach ball changed the direction of the soccer ball deflected it over his shoulder in an instant.
- GalacticRerun, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5It's allowed because against Liverpool it's funny.
- K7Avenger, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5Why the hell wasn't play stopped? Doesn't make any sense to me.
- carterx, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5and of course Hitler finds out about balloon goal & Liverpool losing at Sunderland.

- joeTaco, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4Yes, he would have.
- sychodan, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3from youtubes comments "The ball is clearly offside - and should have been carded "
- sychodan, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Better then "God's hand"
- Ellsass, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3He must needs to be careful.

http://digg.com/soccer/Young_fan_costs_Liverpool_t ... - Joshislong, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3As kenyan said, the ball was curving to the left, but the beach ball makes it deflect to the right, which causes it to hit the defender's foot.
- mgri, on 10/19/2009, -1/+4I think it's hilarious that the Liverpool merchandice store has quickly and completely sold out of these balls as rival fans have bought them up. They are aparently a must have item for a trip to Anfield.
- harpoongill, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2that was the ref's first Premier League game too...crazy.
I think the game should be replayed but there's no way it will. That would involve the ref accepting blame and that doesn't happen in England.
I'm as Red as they come but I'll hold my hands up and say we deserved to lose. Worst I've seen us play in a long while. Three players making their first league starts of the season, Kuyt wasn't 100% fit, Lucas jet-lagged, others (Johnson, Babel) having a bad day. Wasn't to be but Sunderland really should have stuffed us 3-4 nil. - crazzy88ss, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Exactly. That's more than Yahoo could do. I clicked the link on yahoo a few days ago expecting a cool photo or SOMETHING, only to find a store with no graphics. Yawn.
- kitkat102, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Interesting that Liverpool are blaming it on the kid who threw the ball onto the field. How about blaming the keeper and the defenders who left it there. The beachball was on the field for ages. They had plenty of time to move it. This should go down as an own goal as far as I'm concerned.
- flipper5311, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Every referees know that the goal shouldn't be allowed. The referee has been banned for a week, but this affected liverpool much more:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=687040& ... - Meocross, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Yahoo has become a joke, they lost their edge when they failed to keep the playground up to date and spam free.
- moo113, on 10/19/2009, -4/+5Because spectators could abuse those kinds of rulings too easily. The pitch often gets covered in toilet paper, fireworks, all kinds of crap. Football is another level of sporting that North Americans have trouble getting a concept of. Frequent mass riots occur, but that's been cut down significantly in the last couple of years.
- inactive, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1it shouldnt.Because of the law "foreign interference" to the game the game should be suspended, and then,re-acted as soon the ballon was out.
and that...is why the referee is gonna get the sack. link:http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/footbal ... - Meocross, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1His friends suddenly dont know of him.
- Nitrodist88, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Ironically, it was their own fan that threw the ball that cost them that goal.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2687712/ ... - mass922, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Not really... things get thrown on the pitch quite regularly here (usually just streamers/confetti) But we've actually had a beach ball hit the pitch and all that happened was the security took it away (of course it did not interfere with the course of play) ...I'm from Dallas and referring to FC Dallas' Pizza Hut Park.
But here is a rather cool clip of Toronto FC scoring their first goal on "Seat Cushion Giveaway" Day... (Fast Forward to 0:35) ....look what gets thrown on the pitch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhXLf2zkhGA - indubitably, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1what a sad season for liverpool. only 9 games in and it all seems to be lost. i don't see how rafa can stay for another season.
- TheJimid, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1I feel bad they had to think about it the rest of the game.

- GnomeProfit, on 10/19/2009, -1/+0I can't believe it counted. You could abuse that rule so badly. Right as a PK is about to happen throw a stone at the goalie's head. It should have been a dead ball.
Oh well, crazy soccer hooligans. Try that in the States and you'll be waterboarded (j/k) and have to spend a night with Slippery Al. Just don't drop the soap! - zzyjetty, on 10/26/2009, -1/+0How to make your own iPhone Ringtone and transfer it to your iPhone directly?

iPhone Ringtone Maker more - tymufc, on 10/19/2009, -2/+1I normally jump at any chance to rag on Rafa, but he handled the situation better than I would have. He knew his side was performing poorly, and could have easily chalked the entire match up to that one incident but held his tongue instead. Bravo.
That being said...
