ugh... IPFW is BSD buddy - aaamr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find the shorewall (http://www.shorewall.net) does all that I need, and it's easy to configure once you get the hang of it.
Beats editing iptables scripts directly. ugh. - thotpoizn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FYI, if you find the syntax of iptables daunting, you might want to have a look at FWBUILDER. It's a very nice front-end for managing firewalls, and I find it especially convenient to have a centralized location where I can look at, make changes and then deploy them, to any of the iptables systems I manage. See http://www.fwbuilder.org/ for more info...
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Well all I can say is when you are new to Linux and mess up IPtables it's good to have lots of info on hand. Because (with just one computer) if you screw up IPtables you're not going to be able to get a connection to search webpages for help on how to fix your problem.

The most useful part of this is page 4... and only in the print-only version (the column is much too narrow for this sort of information density). - Lexx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is not helpful at all, why was this even dug, if I wanted random sites about iptables I can google, folks
- phraud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woops.. no link. http://www.linuxguruz.com/iptables
- ptree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.iptablesrocks.org/ is a great intro tutorial.
- phraud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is a good link for learning IPTables, getting example scripts, as well as links to several other things that people have posted above.
- anirudhvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The tldp has tons of HOWTOs on iptables - I especially like IP Masquerade - HOWTO (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/ )... I use it to share a lone internet connection (no router) with others by turning my laptop into a sort of router (NATing and forwarding all packets on my wireless interface to my ethernet, which is connected to the internet).
- Nachoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that's like the 102747th iptables article, no digg
