- cybersamurai, on 10/12/2007, -8/+51Good job. Now that this is on Digg and Microsoft knows about it, his copy of Windows will deactivate tomorrow.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Microsoft pushed a new update via Windows Update yesterday. They call it Windows Vista Validation Update (KB929391).
It is the bane of my pirated copy of Vista..... - pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+47yeah, lets start a war.. you be on the evil corporation side, and I'll take on the pirate side... with all the rest of us crazy pirates backing me...
Aarrrgh! its on! - raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46Why the ***** would Microsoft put something like "permanently activated" in Vista? I call *****.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Dr Chang!!
That's the guy who wrote my Chemistry book! - bbcountach, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34i like how they have all those transparent graphics and icons, but they still have the classic windows "OK" button.
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29This story reminded me of this:
http://epicxp.ytmnd.com/ - drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27He will die in a car accident. Tomorrow. At 13:34. No bodies.
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Of course they wouldn't, that is just the message that you get when you run this crack. Windows Script Host == some vbscript executing.
- AbsoluteMSTR, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2713:37 more like
- BenWhitey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31Yeah seriously. No *****. Read the article then you can comment, otherwise STFU.
- hackmiester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Oh damn. Better not download this then. Thanks for the warning mate.
- DMCA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Hello!
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -9/+28um, no? I've tested vista using this method and mine won't expire until 2075.
- pvcrisp, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Why waste your time then? Don't take a second glance at the article and pass over it, the only one forcing you to read it is yourself...
- Mugsleymug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19i'm guessing you've never used Vista then?
- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19More like his computer will explode...
(I kid, I kid) - an0nym0us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I am from the future, and I assure you, it doesn't work.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21boot on my xp install? or on my osx86 install. or on my ubuntu install.

- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No, it's already been fixed.
http://blogs.msdn.com/wga/archive/2006/12/14/the-frankenbuild-monster.aspx - iancgi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12This crack has been on demonoid for a few days now and the majority of the users are saying its BS. Ill wait till a real group cracks it.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Someone by the nickname of Dr. Chang has managed to permanently activate Windows without buying it! I'm not sure about this because I have not tried Windows Vista and the crack yet. However, Dr. Chang has included screenshots to proof that it's true that he managed to crack Windows Vista activation. Dr. Chang tried pushing the date to Year 2016 (ten years ahead) and restarting several times, then moved the date back to 2006, the only thing that expired is his Antivirus. No more 180 days expiration problem and able to successfully receive Windows Updates for Windows Vista.
Continue reading to see the screenshots and also to download Dr. Chang's Windows Vista permanent activation crack.
After cracking, type "slmgr.vbs -xpr" and it says that windows is permanently activated.
At Windows Vista Control Panel -> System, it says "Windows is activated"
Activation was successful!
No problem in getting Windows Vista updates from Windows Update.
Dr. Chang has also included a crack to convert Windows Vista Billgates Edition to MSDN Edition. Again, I'd like to stress out that I've not tested this crack and thus I can't verify whether Dr. Chang's crack is working or not. But seeing the screenshots, this crack looks good. Even in forums, Dr. Chang's crack is gaining a lot of attention. Try it at your own risk and I do not take any responsibility.

- ymmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Good luck getting Windows Updates.... unless you think you can live with out them of course.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hello, DMCA!
- molochi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Pirates will fight ninjas, don't worry. Who else but a corporation could afford the ninja clan's bounty?
- osirisx01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Did you download the file and read the readme?
- strotee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It appears the latest update from MS killed this "workaround".
http://img471.imageshack.us/img471/2963/deadmq0.png - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7> Once Microsoft pushes the "Kill RC Keys" command
They just did that, today/yesterday (Depends on your timezone).
This method of circumventing real activation (Using old files) no longer works (Keys from betas, CPP, etc are now dead and the files which are replaced are checked).
See http://blogs.msdn.com/wga/archive/2006/12/14/the-frankenbuild-monster.aspx - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9With a title of "Windows Vista Activation Permanently Cracked + Proof" I don't think there should have been any confusion as to what the topic was on. Just skip it and move on!
- DaysInTheDark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5no, i meant the usage in the description, not the title. but i'm still wrong, because it's 'to test'. disregard.
thanks for being wrong about me being wrong though. - kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"Dr. Chang's crack is gaining a lot of attention. Try it at your own risk and I do not take any responsibility"
And I was going to wait until college - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8here are the screen shots:

http://www.raymond.cc/images/48cot8o.jpg - ISVDamocles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@MaxPayne: I suppose you've never heard of a Knoppix CD? Linux has no problem reading Windows partitions.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6it's been on the pirate bay for a few weeks at least. search around
- tiger2base, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5 I've done this via boot camp and the vista RTM, and it does indeed work. You can set the system date in OS X to be 2014 and then throw it back to '06 for a permanently installed Vista copy. Just don't tamper with the system time again and make sure to NEVER set either clock to automatically synchronize via the internet.
I eventually had to uninstall it because some games upon installation were reading my DX10 as an older copy of direct x! I may load it again, but know that it definitely can be done. - Kanna, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Once Microsoft pushes the "Kill RC Keys" command, all these "permanently activated" copies of Vista will die. We all have to perform the reinstall ritual sooner or later.
- f00kies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Err, even the read me says it was released Nov 18th. I saw it around then too, just not labeled by "Dr, Chang". It won't work forever; it uses beta keys.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nice haircut.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>>which update is it?
just never update and keep the system offline - Matsu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6http://www.raymond.cc.nyud.net:8090/blog/archives/2006/12/14/windows-vista-activation-permanently-cracked-proof/
Mirror still works. Just extremely slow. - Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Is this suppose to be a huge surprise?
A windows left uncracked is like having a year without Christmas. - Psych77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good idea wastern.
Because an offline PC is so useful nowadays. Yep, I never want to play an online game, surf the web, book flights, buy cheaper than in-store, etc ever again.
Better idea - why not just not install Vista if you don't want to buy it? - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was making a point. People go to such far lengths to hack software it outrageous
An OS is something I will never pirate. EVERYTHING else relies on it, best to go legit with it and not have to worry about patches, updates, etc bricking your system - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Every hardware vendor out there will make drivers for Vista. Not so with Linux
One thing holding Linux back is actually the GPL and the need for everything to be free. That isn't how the rest of the world thinks sadly. People want to sit at their computer and play an mp3 or a DVD right from the start. They don't want to edit their sources.list, go to apt-get install so stuff, then play. Some of the stuff is technically illegal to use in the US, but there is no way to police it.
Average Joe User won't move to linux until it works 100% out of the box with all music, movies, video, etc and driver support is improved from the hardware vendors. Someone needs to sell out which will turn the real *nix people that made it what it is now against them. Its a double edged sword
OS X is great, its my main OS I use. However the 2 big issues there are needing to buy the hardware, which people are starting to do as they need new computers, it just happens slowly. And also fear. People are afraid of what they don't know and think it will be hard or they will feel stupid if they don't know how to do anything. They have been using Windows so long they feel like they have always known it and never had to learn. Truth is most people don't know much about Windows at all. I've moved many people from Windows to OS X and Linux. I've yet to have anyone get very hung up on either. Those that I moved to Linux weren't computer retarded though. I moved my mom to OS X. I just installed a couple things before I gave it to here (flip4mac, DivX, etc) and handed it over. I think I might have got 1 question in 4 months now. Much less then I get from every Windows person I know that has been using the same OS their whole life. Any time someone hears I work with computers they instantly start asking about their virus or pop-ups or slowness in Windows....I'm sure most of you out there experience the same thing.
People don't change because they don't know what else is out there and they assume because Windows is biggest, its best. They also know that if their friend has something they can get it to.....if their friend has aim, the want aim, not gaim or iChat. They don't realize many programs can do the same things. No one wants to be different or the odd man out it would seem - Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4thanks for sharing.
- z0iid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7The problem with this....they posted the crack BEFORE consumer editions go live in January. So, M$ will get to fix this on the released version, and this may only work on OEM copies already out there, or Business/Enterprise editions.
