- fintler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I work for a government agency and one of the employees got one of these in their .gov e-mail. ***** hit the fan. Basically all of the directors of every location sent out an email letting anyone with any further info contact the security people who were working with DHS, FPS and the FBI. Whoever is sending them out is going to have a nice visit from a friendly tactical team at 4 in the morning assuming they're within the U.S. Spam is one thing, this is something a bit different. I know for a fact that the government isn't treating this like normal spam.
- txmorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is awesome, perfect type of email for those people who mess with spammers. Picture one of these spammers actually showing up to meet someone and have them be the police or federal agents. Finally put a spammer in jail.
- skored, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That is some scary *****. If there are people who give money to the Nigerian 419 scam - think about how many would fall for the "contract on your life" scam. Good article.
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Christ. That must scare the bejeezus out of anyone who gets it :(
- dygitaljoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder who thought of these schemes, and how they can even think they can get away with it, lol. the sad part is, probably someone is doing a wire transfer right now...
- clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's actually the government

I'm pretty sure threatening someone's life is a federal crime. - stryker2you, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We used those security key-chains at the bank I used to work for. I think it's a great idea. I would actually consider using them...but I'll wait and see. There are pros and cons against using them but it's a lot harder to get all the info correct to log in to paypal while using the key-chain.
- jim9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Two interesting items in one article. The spam threat would be a chilling email if one hadn't seen this article. I had not heard about the paypal security key. I have used them at work for years and they work well. The battery on the securid units that I am familiar with lasted about 5 years.
- shampoovta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 That sounds as probable as me have a rich dead uncle in Nigeria. Who falls for this stuff?
- Legion303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now imagine the spammer showing up and being shot in the face. Mmmmmm. "SpamAssassin" just achieved a whole new level of meaning.
- lsochris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1multifactor authentication is almost always a good thing...i'm all for it, to protect my paypal acct its worthth the 5 bucks every 5 years or whenever i lose it
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Gmail has spam filters.
- chipsotoole, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0People posing as hitmen? Let me know when Jean Reno starts spamming people for real.
