I hope the FBI catches these bastards

>.> - shutaro, on 04/01/2009, -0/+28Hey, wasn't the Internet supposed to end today?
- Coffeedemon, on 04/01/2009, -1/+26What a pack of cockstains that make these damn things.
- jander99, on 04/01/2009, -0/+20Good explanation of Conficker. They didn't explain the one possibility of what it could do tomorrow: nothing. Lets hope it does nothing, and the hype was just a social engineering project to get people scared.
- Bloodwine, on 04/01/2009, -1/+20Dugg for Tremors
- AndersenWatcher, on 04/01/2009, -0/+18"prevents access to security websites".
So...it's pretty easy to determine if a computer is infected, right? - chanop, on 04/01/2009, -0/+16A victim of hype? It's y2k09
- astrotrain, on 04/01/2009, -1/+17Good idea, but your still backing up the virus.
- jleopold, on 04/01/2009, -0/+14The FBI's statement on Conflicker: http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel09/conficker03 ...
- xevidentx, on 04/01/2009, -0/+11all hype no substance
- astrotrain, on 04/01/2009, -0/+11Chalk up another victory for the clueless media. Another day in "don't open any of your emails", "don't go on the internets", and "don't walk outside your house today". Simple if it is a 'big bad virus" then your Virus protector (if updated regularity and working) would detect and remove it. Its now 04/01/2009, and so far no Media has reported any major catastrophes that may have been related to this. They all have "um its April 1, 2009, its a virus... quick go to Microsoft to fix it". And meanwhile while the world is in peril, the Media is now counting up the number of ratings each one received for trying to over hype the story.
- nullx42, on 04/01/2009, -5/+15Oh give it a rest. I'm typing this from my hakintosh so dont think for a second im butthurt. Both OS's have ups and downs. Windows have viruses and macs have pompous pricks like you as users.
in b4 "lol im on ubuntu and im securerer than mac etc etc" - LoganT, on 04/01/2009, -0/+10So how exactly does one get infected? Is it through an attachment? Through an exploit on certain websites?
- savethejets, on 04/01/2009, -0/+9If someone with Conficker sits on a toilet seat, Then you sit on that seat after. Can you get Conficker?
- darkism, on 04/01/2009, -1/+9@Biscuitz: The purpose of antivirus on Linux is to keep Windows virii from being spread to susceptible machines (e.g. in a server environment).
- amabaie, on 04/01/2009, -0/+8Crossing my fingers usually works for me. But I think I'll back up my hard drive this evening.
- MrAsparagus, on 04/01/2009, -0/+8I agree. Cockstains.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+7Why buy when hype is free? seriously people will all be up and arm being on the watch for conficker and will probably be infected by something else.
"keep watching for giants and you will be eaten by ants." - FearlessFreep, on 04/01/2009, -2/+9Drive safe, date smart, compute safe.
He didn't say "don't use a computer" he just said "don't run Windows". You can have a rich computing experience without needing to worry about being 'a victim' - ec91199, on 04/01/2009, -0/+7i just woke up, has the big bad virus done anything yet?
- kd420, on 04/01/2009, -1/+7Kind of a straw man argument you're making. He's saying don't drive a Pinto, don't date a hooker and don't work as a arctic crab fisherman. There are other options besides Windows...
- mdbsat, on 04/01/2009, -6/+12Seriously. I laugh at this stuff.
- 11oops, on 04/01/2009, -0/+6No, but it was rebooted about five hours ago.
http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/04/01/internet ... - Benjigga, on 04/01/2009, -0/+6And at a rate of 2.8 kb/s nonetheless!
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -4/+10Pompous pricks generally don't cause data loss, though.
- darkamster07, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5^basically describes my life
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -1/+6*rightclick* *save*
- nickels, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5We should start investigating the people with the most to gain from these viruses... MCAFEE and SYMANTEC are responsible!
/tinfoilhat - nyxerebos, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5Actually, no. Conficker spreads through infected USB drives, open shares or an unpatched remote system call.
There are so very many reasons not to use IE, but this particular virus isn't one of them. - astrotrain, on 04/01/2009, -4/+9All the above... and be careful when IE prompts you to "Install Cool Web Tools", or "You won a million dollars click [Yes] to install your claiming software".
ActiveX is a nice way to infect people and since IE is integrated with Windows, what better two ways to infect a Windows based PC. This is how the crap gets put on PCs web site authors trick you to install things with pop-up windows. Some people click [Yes] just to get it to go away and then the skies turn dark and the wind picks up, and wham! they are infected with some virus/spyware.
Just say NO to IE, and Yes to an Alternate browser (Firefox, Opera, etc). - Skurt, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5cute but to update it needs a new pic of a Cat-6 or maybe covering a wifi antenna/cantenna
/dugg - manjas8, on 04/01/2009, -2/+7I think it's harmless. It was just supposed to cause a bunch of hype and fear over nothing.
A great April Fools day joke, actually. - MrAsparagus, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5LMFAO! Read my mind.
- inactive, on 04/01/2009, -0/+5Yes.
Although I have to admit the suspense is killing me. - astrotrain, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4Windows nor any other OS will never be 100% patched for security, everyday 'holes' are found, and patched. Its like trying to use Duct Tape on the Titanic as it was sinking.. No Anitivirus will be 100% effective, from the 'free' ones to the $60 ones that charge you $19.95 a year for subscription fees.
Its called good common sense, do you really want to click that link in an email from Pam Anderson which will lead you to her site to prompt you to download 'Adobe_Flash10.exe' because the site's fake .jpg of a movie player stated you need it? - MothBoy, on 04/01/2009, -8/+12Uh huh.
I suppose you also don't drive (to stay out of accidents), don't date (to keep from being dumped) and don't work (to keep from being laid off).
I'm surprised you Digg, because now you are being dug down. That will teach you! - darkamster07, on 04/01/2009, -6/+10i'd still rather have to put up with a few pricks than be bogged down with a bunch of actual problems- just sayin'. besides i consider myself an OS X fan, apple's hardware is nice- but everything i love is in the OS (i just hope apple stays commited to software in some sense).
- coldwind777, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4no. no no no. Also, no no. unless you keep your documents in the windows/system32 folder...
- gaoshan, on 04/01/2009, -0/+4I went out and bought a Mac. No confiker.
- TechnoRabbit, on 04/01/2009, -4/+8lol im on ubuntu and im securerer than mac etc etc
- sirjoebob, on 04/01/2009, -4/+8Linux ftw... I am trying to get conficker but i just cant!!!
- maz2331, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3Run Windows Update and plug the holes it uses to infect in the first place, then keep your AV updated.
- Kitakaze, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4Being a nerdy Linux-running weirdo right now seems like everyone else are about to die from STD, while I feel perfectly safe and free to ***** anything with a pulse. (Well, if they'd let me, I mean.)
- shaughn13, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4which one? this one?
http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh - SangekiRein, on 04/01/2009, -1/+4Everyone make sure to update your virus databases on you AV products.
- protogenxl, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm!
- chanop, on 04/01/2009, -7/+10lol im on ubuntu and im securer than mac and windows
- antistupid, on 04/01/2009, -0/+3the holes were patched back in october of 08
- cliffzdude, on 04/01/2009, -4/+7Really? Do you douche bags just troll Digg's front page for ANY news about a Win Virus and chime in immediately?
We know - you don't use windows and your haxor skillz are thru the ruuf. Great. We're impressed. Now shut the ***** up about what OS you use. Damn. Is there a better way to NOT get laid than spout out at a party what ***** OS you use in an obnoxious manner - such as HERE ON DIGG? -
