I didn't think there was any life left behind VLC, their UI and functionality certainly doesn't look like someone's touched it in a 'coons age. While your patching the security problems, how about embedding some player controls directly over the video the way that 99% of all other media players work including every web-based flash player, and if you don't support a file or can't open it, don't sit there consuming every byte of system memory until you hang the computer.
