- londoneconomist, on 10/13/2007, -5/+575Perhaps Dateline should serve the public interest and investigate real political corruption instead of garbage thriller/scare pieces. This trash "journalism" disgusts me.
- badtzmartin, on 10/13/2007, -11/+437HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!
Dateline should stick to nailing pedophiles. - wizbor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+242From "The Register" story on this cracks me up:
"Defcon "is like Switzerland, its neutral territory," said a senior conference staff member who goes by the name Priest. "The feds come in and they don't arrest us. We don't turn their phones into 976 numbers," he added, referring to the telephone prefix used by phone sex operators and other to automatically charge the caller a set fee." - omnis, on 10/10/2007, -5/+222must have sucked at hide-and-seek as a child too...
"im just going to stand behind the couch" - drmobutu, on 10/10/2007, -7/+203That chick was foolish to try and do that assignment. Her entire demeanor was just so wrong for the task...I mean, she doesn't look like somebody who could possibly have a legitimate interest in the topic. It would have been a miracle if she wasn't caught...
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -11/+170They should stick to leaving justice up to the justice department, instead of trying to be vigilante *****... Their only screwing up more things than solving... And breaking the laws and justice policies btw...
Sensationalisms sucks... - aben9woaha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+160Yes, I have been asking myself why I enjoyed watching her being run off so. Had she been successful, this would have been a sensationalist piece of trash. The folks following her out were SOooo nonthreatening. But her fearfully running away showed that she does not have the guts to investigate something like political corruption (or a real pedophile ring), where some really scary folks might do more than just chase you away.
- krakhed, on 10/10/2007, -4/+153This just shows how pathetic a lot of the news media is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+148I remember when dateline used to cover real news. Those were the days, i wonder what happened?
- tentwentyfour, on 10/10/2007, -1/+123I almost burst out laughing when the guy talking asked what they should do to her and clearly from the audience you can hear someone say "Tar and feather 'em!"
Hilarious. - kosmoX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+122Nice wording.
- DruSam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+112What kind of amateur reporter moron thinks they can spy on freakin' hackers of all people and get away with it?
- Hawk7886, on 10/10/2007, -1/+110Good to know she can navigate parking lots under pressure.
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -5/+111Corporations need to stay the hell out of law enforcement.
- glycolized, on 10/10/2007, -2/+102Kinda funny, but too bad that pack of nerds didn't have as many funny smart-aleck comments as they did cameras.
"Ya ever been on '60 Minutes'?? Heh heh."
Good one. - moxley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+90I love this. She went there with the intent to defraud and to create a sensationalist story that would have harmed people and caused further ignorance about hacking. Basically what she did wasn't journalism, it was the opposite of journalism (and possibly illegal).
It especially shows how far off base her (or whoever truly sent her there for this yellow journalism) assumptions were that they were willing to still give her above board coverage after finding out out what she had planned. She went there to set somebody up, yet she is the only one who acted illegally and unethically.
The funny part, is that she likely has a big ass target on her back now....I think it's safe to assume that she's going to have the ***** hacked out of her. - TheSwagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+82Dateline - To Catch a Predator trying To Catch A Hacker trying to Catch a Break
- black|math, on 10/10/2007, -4/+86LoL @ Video "This is for all those helpless predators!"
- Pile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+77certainly not a cute blond at a computer hacking convention!
- Pile, on 10/10/2007, -5/+79Justice would be naked pix of her on the intarwebs.
- JasonHilton, on 10/10/2007, -18/+88Same story with 1200+ Diggs was on yesterday: http://digg.com/security/Media_Mole_Allegedly_Attending_DefCon_with_Hidden_Camera
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+67They'll do anything for a sensational story, wont they... ***** vigilantes...
Stick to reporting the news... not trying to making it... -_- Historically that has only led to MAJOR problems and injustices... - theghoul, on 10/10/2007, -1/+66Owned so hard she drove out in the wrong direction.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+63What does Undercover mean? It's a good thing she is a reporter...
- kimchiman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+60Revenge of the Nerds
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+61dugg for hilarious chase in parking lot.
- DarkDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+55I wonder if any of her footage will be spun on NBC about the evil hackers not wanting press in their convention (Which isn't true, press passes are issued)
- cwoolf34, on 10/10/2007, -3/+56Yes, I saw that one. But this one has a better headline.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+53Where you goin' in such a hurry? Take a seat, take a seat, let's chat...
- black|math, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52Sorry, dupe post. Digg- please find a different comment system. And allow deleting comments.
- Herostratus, on 10/10/2007, -8/+55Hackers are the smartest of the smart. Good luck outsmarting them. Reporters are the dumbest of the dumb BTW
- richofsilence, on 10/10/2007, -2/+49Doesn't Dateline have "predators" to "catch?"
- nick0909, on 10/10/2007, -0/+46The people at defcon have more honor and integrity than Dateline. To punish her themselves would be stooping to their stupid "catch a predator" level. By revealing her plan and simply letting her own embarrassment punish her, the "hackers" took the high road over this seemingly honorable TV show that is really just junk journalism. If they had attacked her Dateline would have a story about how the hackers ruined her life and beat her up. Now they have nothing but a stupid looking reporter driving the wrong way out of a parking lot.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+52I hope the lawsuit against NBC goes through and wins.
- doctechnical, on 10/10/2007, -1/+44Bravo, well said. She's a hard hitting reporter... as long as things don't get, y'know, all scary and stuff.
Maybe she could do traffic reorts, or the weather...? Maybe an investigation into LOLCATS! That might be more her speed. - korashime2001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+42I wonder if it would be considered a violation of the treaty if they turned Madigan's phone into a 976 number. I further wonder if it hasn't already happened.
- LyKwId, on 10/10/2007, -4/+43holy crap. i never knew geeks actually laughed like that.
i thought conan was just joking around. turns out he wasn't! - AceAMasta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40They should have given the job to Chris Hansen!
- mrmatchgame, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40Wow, That Game was too easy!
- DeflatorMouse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40One who's a child of privilege and has had her entire life handed to her on a silver platter.
- SpikeLee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Dateline never did such thing. It was almost always a magazine news show.
- Gryph1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33and it works too! I went to go meet a 14 year old and she was cute. Some cops showed up and ruined the whole vibe though and some guy told me the chick was really a 21 year old miss america or something.. anyways my lawyer got me off the hook(something about illegal practices) and that chick looked 14 so I may stick with her though I just got a message from a 12 year old so maybe not!
- 0gleth0rpe, on 10/10/2007, -5/+36http://www.theinquirer.net/images/articles/Michelle_Madigan_Happy_Look.jpg
This is not "cute". - notque, on 10/10/2007, -11/+40And you've officially stepped over the line.
- doctechnical, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
Its interesting when people die- give us dirty laundry - Smight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29Nursing homes started asking for ID at the door and it scared them away.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28serious. the complete lack of integrity in our media is sickening. trying to cook up sensational stories to scare middle america is not hard. these reporters have no sense of journalistic duty. instead of fulfilling their responsibilities as the 4th estate they give the press a bad name and try to use deception to manipulate ignorant audiences. people like that do not deserve the title of "journalist" and i hope that bitch's career sinks.
cooking up stories that will scare people in kansas--shameful... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27it's a dating show, shown late at night on cable.
- TheMadCow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27Snoop unto them as they would snoop unto you!
- desqjockey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Planting explosives in trucks and then claiming that the explosions were due to faulty gas tanks; oh those were the days.
