'Tunnel Hunter' Detects Encrypted P2P Traffic @ 90% Accuracy

zeropaid.com — Italian researchers say they can detect SSH tunnels with 99% accuracy and actual protocol (P2P, POP3, SMTP, HTTP) with 90% accuracy.

  • Thempleton, on 07/01/2008, -0/+0That means they are able to know (and only if specific conditions are met), there is a SSH tunnel and that it supports an ongoing P2P, POP3, SMTP or HTTP transaction, nothing more.
    In other words, the content of what is flowing through the tunnel is already unknown due to the fact it is encrypted!

    To fool this, encryption at one lower level suffice.

    This is another italian "researcher".
