Pissing off oppressive governments, and dictators since February 2, 2004.
Thanx Truecrypt.org - Smegzor, on 02/07/2008, -1/+110.. and protecting porn collections.

- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+56Keepin my porn private since 2001
- VeteranRanger, on 02/07/2008, -4/+48TrueCrypt has also been covered and approved of on Security Now :

#41 - alucardx, on 02/07/2008, -1/+40compatibility across 3 OS's, free, and open source.
- Smegzor, on 02/07/2008, -2/+39I have been waiting for an official linux gui for a long time. Last I checked I couldn't open my Windows Truecrypt files with the Linux Truecrypt. Hopefully I can make them cross-compatible now.
- anononon, on 02/07/2008, -0/+33Work files..... right. Gotcha. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge, pokety-poke.
- feedmecereal, on 02/07/2008, -0/+20I've always been able to open the Windows containers inside Linux. I'm pretty sure the docs say (although I can't find it now) that the containers are completely OS independent. Although the official Linux version did require the command line, there are some unofficial Linux GUIs available.
- glory, on 02/07/2008, -2/+21fail
- salmonmoose, on 02/07/2008, -0/+19Why bother?
The REAL beauty of truecrypt is the hidden partitions, give your crypted file 2 passwords, one safe one, and one for whatever it is you're really trying to hide. If required, you can hand over the 'safe' password, and keep your data protected. - wisam, on 02/07/2008, -0/+17Actually, mounting a truecrypt partition in Linux is extremely easy.
- flxfxp, on 02/07/2008, -1/+18Hear hear!
- mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+14I've never seen a how-to for rocket science either. Weird
- HueytheFreeman, on 02/07/2008, -1/+15"Windows system partition encryption with pre-boot authentication"
Holy *****! :O - philippbock, on 02/07/2008, -3/+17Yeah, you need to download TrueCrypt in order to be able to decrypt and mount it.
- Gryffydd, on 02/07/2008, -2/+16I'd like to smack you in the face with a cluebat.
- spidamonkey, on 02/07/2008, -0/+13what effects would those be exactly?
- OkydOky, on 02/07/2008, -0/+12My GF is fine with my porn.. she even goes in and watches it sometimes..
- ProfBagelwood, on 02/07/2008, -0/+12As it stands, no other project to my knowledge is as powerful or has as many meaningful options as Truecrypt, including commercial applications. You just can't beat Truecrypt. It's good stuff, and is a shining example of how the free and open source software can not only compete with the proprietary and closed source, but can outright dominate.
- xfile087, on 02/07/2008, -2/+13It's not very private anymore since we all know about it!
- elvisripley, on 02/07/2008, -1/+10Same here. Mac OS X couldn't mount it and Toast mounted it as an audio CD. It didn't play.
- timmerk15, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9Once you download it, don't try to decompress it. Simply rename the extension to .dmg and then mount that.
- AriseNow, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9Maybe the filesystem you used was the problem (i.e. NTFS instead of FAT)? I've had no problems using them in either XP or Ubuntu.
- Hobo97, on 02/07/2008, -0/+9Truecrypt partitions are OS independent. You may not have had ntfs3g installed.
- OkydOky, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8A How-to?
It's not Rocket science....
But it is wonderful to be able to access my encrypted stuff from all three platforms finally. - DangerCollie, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8You can download the .deb from TrueCrypt. I think the license issues are US export controls and one of the encryption logarithms.
- Trollhammaren, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8You masturbate, you ejaculate, the ejaculation causes your brain to produce dopamine, the dopamine releases endorphins, the endorphins make you feel happy, and when you're happy you work better. They are work files! ;)
- Fredx, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8installer works flawless on ubuntu with gui and it mounts encrypted ntfs partitions just fine aswell.. YAYYY
- rmxz, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8Will it be free and open enough for Debian to finally include it? Last I recall it's not available on Debian due to some details of license legalese.
- DangerCollie, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8It's really sweet. You can use the GUI to make an encrypted file container on Ubuntu, move the file container to a Windows box and, provided you know the password, you can swap the file back and forth safely.
It's super if you need to move privacy act data around. Encrypt your data and carry it around on a thumb drive, put it on an internet fileshare or laptop...no worries.
Writing a howto as we speak. - wush, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Isn't it annoying when OS X software uses an installer?
- frackmaster, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7The idea is that none of your volumes should be mounted when someone forces you to reveal your password. Then when you give in, you enter the password for the non-hidden partition. Truecrypt will say that it's a "normal" volume, but there's no way to tell if there exists a hidden volume. I, for example, don't use hidden volumes, but it still says "normal" since TC doesn't know if a TC file has a hidden volume or not (unless you mount the hidden one)
- polywaffle, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7So..this is free..and it does the same thing?
- wisam, on 02/07/2008, -4/+10The beauty of Truecrypt is that you can create a partition, encrypt it with Truecrypt and hide it with TweakUI. This way not only is it encrypted, its also hidden away from the unsuspecting.
- djbon2112, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6Finally, a Linux GUI! I've been waiting for this for awhile!
- seirfaslas, on 02/07/2008, -3/+9I can't mount the Leopard Intel image once it's extracted. Anyone else have this problem?
- elvisripley, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7On Mac OS X rename the .dmg.bz2 file as .dmg only. Their server is tagging the file type it incorrectly.
- DavidGX, on 02/07/2008, -4/+10....***** vista.
- ProfBagelwood, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6The command to type in is "truecrypt -u /home/user/your-truecrypt-container /home/user/an-empty-folder-where-you-want-to-mount-it" and then it'll just ask for you password and you'll be set. Obviously you need to replace the two locations I used in my example with the real stuff, but yeah, that's all there is to it. The -u preserves the user's ownerships and permissions, which is important. But yeah, heh, that's all there is to it.
- FrostySol, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6It's about time! I've been waiting for this for what seems like forever. Now I can finally encrypt all of my work files on one volume for all of my computers (mac, windows, linux).
- EenMadcat, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7Great news, OSX version.. sweet!!
the server is a bit slow today.. how come ;) - mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6Yes, only men view porn. You're a moron.
- fr34k5h0w, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5FileVault encrypts the entire home directory. Though I guess you could use Disk Utility's encrypted DMG. But then you don't have the cross-OS advantage.
- bionicboogie, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5TrueCrypt encrypted images can be used between OS X, Windows and Linux.
- mrsteveman1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5Truecrypt partition = random data = "i wiped it"
- hawkspur, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6Because it wasn't.
- Niten, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5What do you say we all pitch in and buy a new humor detector for timmerk15? :)
