- badqat, on 10/26/2009, -1/+47How stupid do you have to be to announce you've fixed a product that is still as wide open as it ever was?
- jterhune, on 10/26/2009, -1/+40I'm not surprised.
When the big DNS vulnerability came out awhile ago Time Warner told me I didn't have to worry since residential customers don't use DNS. - CharlesWilmont, on 10/26/2009, -0/+16Nice digg. I am beside myself since this just goes to show that the testing was not the priority it should have been and that security is not one of the concerns yet is a selling point for this product. Again, buyers have to do the hard work of checking up on a product before purchase.
- inactive, on 10/26/2009, -0/+14You have to Time Warner stupid.
But they're cool though; not race car bed cool, but who is. - shumbora, on 10/26/2009, -0/+11Javascript to hide admin functions , time warner just discovered dynamic drive
- EnTaroTassadar, on 10/26/2009, -1/+11Time Warner doesn't fix their routers. They mostly use Netgear routers that come with a firmware that's only SLIGHTLY modified from Netgear's stock firmware. TWC doesn't push out any updates of their own.
Seriously, regardless of what ISP you use, go buy your own router. You will be 100x safer with it than whatever your ISP provides. - jrm125, on 10/26/2009, -0/+10Don't use Time Warner routers...

- scuba7183, on 10/26/2009, -0/+7I just bought a Linksys WRT54GS ver 2.1 on ebay for $30, put DD-WRT on it and it is glorious
- norman619, on 10/26/2009, -0/+6I have yet to see an ISP provided router which isn't a POS.
- adremali, on 10/26/2009, -4/+10***** time warner
- 4degrees, on 10/26/2009, -0/+4they haven't fixed it because they are utilizing it, and/or it is there by design.
- DeathfireD, on 10/26/2009, -0/+3in other words it's not a bug, it's a feature right?
- KinOfCain, on 10/27/2009, -1/+4Except that the article clearly states this is a problem with SMC routers, not netgear, and the problem isn't a bug, it's a poor default configuration, something that TWC does have control over.
Articles are fun to read! Try it! - 4degrees, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3true, but TW puts their own "tweaked" firmware on said routers.
- DaviDTC, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Someone hasn't made www.PriceIsRightLosingHorn.com yet? Someone needs to get on that.

- markos, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Tomato, yo.
- EnTaroTassadar, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1In most areas, TWC uses Netgear. And TWC doesn't really control it. They send the requirements to the manufacturer (in this case SMC), and they basically do the minimum amount of tweaking to make their stock firmware meet their requirements.
I've been in the business. - ladfrombrad, on 10/26/2009, -0/+1'There's a whole lot a sniffing going on.'
- sapphirecut, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1idiots, thank god i'm on something better, like comcast!
- agrant11, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1well yeah its just a series of tubs :)
- anumv4ever, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1They mostly use Netgear routers that come with a firmware that's only SLIGHTLY modified from Netgear's stock firmware. TWC doesn't push out any updates of their own.
- AngryDeuce, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1I've had my WRT54G for 4 years now and the thing is still going strong. In the same amount of time, I've been through 4 cable boxes.
Yeah...not too impressed with the ISP's offering pretty much across the board. - securityskeptic, on 10/28/2009, -0/+0Maybe they mean that residential customers don't run their own name servers. Still wrong, but not quite so wrong.
- PRlME, on 10/26/2009, -7/+7***** FOX.
omg imagine of fox had routers? - bsmang, on 10/26/2009, -1/+1Is it just me or does the top of those routers look rather like black swiss cheese?
- IanDropnScience, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1Wow. I have that same exact modem/router. Can anyone recommend a good replacement Modem/Router with wireless that is extremely user friendly with x-box live that I can replace the SMC one? I wanted to access the modem but whoever set up my internet changed the admin password from the default. I had to call Time Warner, who told me to call Road Runner, who told me to call SMC, who then blamed whoever came and set the router up. I could reset it but it would seem a good move would be to buy my own hardware and be done with dealing with them when i have issues with the ISP provided hardware. Time warner in the NYC/Brooklyn area allow swapping out their hardware for your own?
- phrakshun, on 10/26/2009, -4/+2There's a RAT in the network.
- norman619, on 10/26/2009, -4/+1Talk to Netgear. Time Warner does not make the routers. They buy them from Netgear and push them out.
