Looks like someone's working on automating Digg Spammage. - misinformation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is fisheye but it looks to be able to correct for distortions caused by the mirror. They have more images if you click for them. One picture shows the source from an intersection (fish-eye style), another two show the viewed images, though not from the source, but from somewhere else (a bridge in this case). All you need is a widescreen display for the image.
- woxidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A very cool technology indeed, though not exactly "new." Here's some more stuff about how parabolic mirrors work and how they apply to computer vision:

It's not a couple of cameras and a stitched-together image. It's one optic sensor that takes a 360-degree image and then de-warps it. The panoramic view is the 360-degree image "unwrapped."
- shrubit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intrigued by the panoramic stuff... anyone know anything about this sensorbridge sensor software toolkit mentioned?
- infonography, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about a propeller beanie with web cams on it, just spin it and you get a dual 360 view!
- theonesteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As a former security officer I have to wonder what the view is like for the humans involved. I'd imagine the curvature of the view is basically like what you'd get with a fish-eye lens, but reversed. While this camera may be able to capture images from all directions, there's no way it can show them on an ordinary CCTV monitor without using picture-in-picture or a similar technology. Nifty technology, but the same effect can be obtained by using just a little more hardware. Anybody see a cost figure?
- supergnome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What's with the random link to garbage?
- nesibus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I can't believe it took this long for someone to use this thing....they have been using this for Virtual Tours for a long time...i own one from www.0-360.com This is basically simple simple stuff.
- HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think the German Chancellor needed this so she could have saw Bush coming.
- NJerseyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I am not impressed by have a couple of cameras and digitally stiching together the image. People have been making photos like this for decades, and it is no more difficult here with video because the cameras are all stationary. You don't need to adjust your stiching technique at all. Boring.
- azpat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I thought this was going to be a Stephen Colbert thing.
- angler8890, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0there's no way it can show them on an ordinary http://www.ppef.info/sitemap.htm CCTV monitor without using picture-in-picture or a similar technology.
That's great!!
