- stox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The top hacks are all time are unknown. We only know of the ones who got caught.
- twowords, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They wrongfully state that Mafiaboy "hacked into some of the largest sites in the world, including eBay, Amazon and Yahoo". He was a script kiddie using a small botnet to DoS attack ebay, amazon and yahoo. He was in no way a great hacker. Just a kid with a couple of scripts and no life.
twowords - tresser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yet another media hypefest, with that bitter aftertaste. Including the Melissa virus is 42 ways of wrong. No one would have been infected if people didn't love porn. and IE.
agree with the rest of the class that Cap'n Crunch needed to be added.. - Tralith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, love how Kevin Poulsen became a Wired News editor.
- tdamore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Poorly written and very short on details. Some of this is not even accurate. No Digg
- zlajoie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the way people sensationalize these stories... Here's the excerpt from the Melissa virus:
"Melissa spread to more than 300 companies across the world completely destroying their computer networks."
That's quite a statement. Destroying their networks... - HeyYou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(Dark Dante == My Hero && Kevin Mitnick == God)
- N2EI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about the father of it all? John Draper (aka Captain Crunch).
True, he dealt with Phone Phreaking but that is how much of this all got started. - awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1didnt see the people who hacked paris hilton's phone :p
- antisthenex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Zero Cool definitely beats them all. He made all stocks -1/4. He was only like 13 or something. I think that was around 1989.
When I saw Mafiaboy and the DoS attacks, I was also surprised that was on the list. The only reason why he's there is because he's a kid, and the only reason he did that was because he's a stupid kid. - Sthanny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice list, only Mafia Boy shouldn't be on the list. Just a lame script kiddie...
- MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea, a name like Mafiaboy makes me think of some 13 yr old kid sitting at his computer chatting on AOL. And I don't think the guy that wrote the melissa virus should be on the list.
- eliteskater08, on 05/13/2008, -0/+0i agree that this list does showcase the talents of quite a few very good hackers, but if they were indeed... THE BEST, they wouldnt have been caught, would they? i think not. all of the BEST hackers are still out there hacking as far as im concerned.
- tMANwi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow great list. I loved the Wired news guy one.
- Bistromaths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0stox makes a good point. But that only adds to the excitement
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These guys are the Masters of the Internet.
- seviyon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agreed with you guys, good list.
- MarkByers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The best hacks/cracks are those that never got discovered.
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agreed .. nice list
- trampish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crash Override/Zero Cool and Acid Burn are the 1337357 H4XoRz EVARRRR!!!one
- hammerattack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0His name is Kevin Poulsen. His name is Kevin Poulsen. His name...
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very short on details. Could have really been better written. I was interested for a second! No digg.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The best hack was the one that killed the whole power grid in the Northeastern US. Everyone knows that there was a coverstory, but it was really a hacker.
- phraud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0milw0rm pwns yew
- alt3r360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They left out the biggest one.
The social engineering of Xerox by Microsoft and Apple. I guess they missed "The Pirates of Silicon Valley". - th3dougler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mafiaboy did gain access to a bunch of computers, but not computers IN ebay
- Sinan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are much better hackers than them...they are those who we don't know about. They are those who were never caught. IF you hack and get caught, you're no great hacker. A good hacker yes, but not the greatest.
- DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list though.
- Terrx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A little-known incident when Poulsen, then just a student, hacked into Arpanet, the precursor to the Internet was hacked into."
Nifty use of English there..... - rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no Captain Crunch, no digg
--dan - anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Crackers! when will the media learn to use correct terms
- jbrocket99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a better version of the same story.
http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,41630-2,00.html?tw=wn_story_page_next1 - dangerz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know the list isn't legit when Capt Crunch isn't on there and Kevin Mitnick is.
- tomaburque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0People like to put Mitnick on a pedestal but he was doing crap like cloning cellphones, not for fun, but to sell them. That's just stealing.
