- krekc, on 12/25/2007, -0/+129Ahhh I miss The Screen Savers and Call for Help. BRING BACK LEO TO TV!
- ECas123, on 12/25/2007, -10/+102Who's that douche in the red?
- Hipple, on 12/25/2007, -4/+70I'm probably revealing my ignorance, but is that 16 year old with the red shirt Kevin Rose?
- CatalystDM, on 12/25/2007, -14/+58Ron Paul
- harvinator24, on 12/25/2007, -0/+43Well the government just watched me watch porn.
- Takteek, on 12/25/2007, -0/+42For people who don't know, Comcast bought TechTV and turned it into G4. (And took away all traces of intelligent programming.)
- inactive, on 12/25/2007, -3/+43Kevin...Rose?
- jhendrix86, on 12/25/2007, -1/+39god TSS ruled so hard...when G4 bought them, i stopped watching the channel alltogether. it sucked so hard after that. they ruined my favorite channel!
- jemhadar, on 12/25/2007, -1/+36I remember when this originally aired! I sure miss the days of ZDTV/TechTV!
The Screensavers was awesome before that butchered it to become Attack of the Show!
The lamest name ever!
Yes, That's Kevin Rose. - jamesmorad, on 12/25/2007, -0/+34LCD
- mattrmcg, on 12/25/2007, -2/+35Heh, found a great way to protect against the Van Eck phreaking...buy an LED monitor...
- SillyDigger, on 12/25/2007, -3/+30...I hate comcast with a passion.
- yuluo2, on 12/25/2007, -1/+28Hey van outside my house, enjoy watching me digg this story up!
This gives some credibility to tin foil hats at least, time for Faraday Cage hats. - deff, on 12/25/2007, -5/+31My poor ass, Mr. Moneybags
- Dolomite, on 12/25/2007, -0/+23a sober Kevin Rose! YAY!
- mojaam, on 12/25/2007, -1/+20Yeh, those were the days when Kevin was a true geek before becoming a "web celeb", dark tip Kevin as he was called. Now if you watch the most recent diggnation (eps 129, @ around the 23rd minute), he doesn't even know of XP Pro. I mean come on. No biggie though, still a cool guy.
http://revision3.com/diggnation/2007-12-20cctrax - donkz, on 12/25/2007, -1/+19"...I gotta put myself in the box?"
he's just asking for it - Indemnity, on 12/25/2007, -0/+16I miss TSS.. G4 sucks and ATOS is a joke..
- kinerry, on 12/25/2007, -2/+17You may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
- flip360, on 12/25/2007, -0/+15This was before the G4 Debacle...when TechTV was around being awesome.
- unidentified, on 12/25/2007, -1/+15The University of Cambridge wrote a great report on Van Eck phreaking that's 167 pages and shows real examples using different refresh rates. It's called Compromising Emanations: Eavesdropping Risks of Computer Displays. You can check it out here...
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/techreports/UCAM-CL-TR-577 ... - masterm1nd, on 12/25/2007, -2/+16Even if you wear a condom, it's still G4.
- g4blows, on 12/25/2007, -0/+12so hard
- dn11, on 12/25/2007, -0/+11that was back when Kevin wasn't afraid to admit he knew that Windows XP came in a Pro version
- Vachon, on 12/25/2007, -1/+12Leo is still on, his current show is called The Lab. I don't know if it's played in the states or where ever it is you live though.
- gklitt, on 12/25/2007, -0/+9FYI, Leo still has a TV show called The Lab with Leo Laporte, but apparently it only airs in Canada or something. How sad.
In any case, he's occupied with the TWiT network, which is a great podcasting replacement for TechTV (although it's only audio). Check out Revision3 as well; they have some great shows like Diggnation, Tekzilla and Systm which are really coming along as the new generation of TechTV. - duke1981, on 12/25/2007, -0/+9I second that
- avonwodahs, on 12/25/2007, -1/+9But who will watch the watchmen?
- Prototek, on 12/25/2007, -3/+11The radio is only able to pick up the summation of emf (electromagnetic frequency) produced by the picture on the screen. This technique doesn't have the resolution to be able to decipher what was the screen that produced the emf. Basically, this is about as useful as reading a monitor with your eyes closed. You can determine the amount of light going through your eyelids to your eyes but you can't read whats on the monitor.
- DemDude, on 12/25/2007, -0/+8It's *****, LCDs do also emit frequencies. Also, this technologiy does exist, and the pictures you get are pretty good - depends on the distance, though. From 50 meters, using a proper directional antenna, you still get pretty sharp images with surprisingly low noise levels.
The technology I am talking about was created by a german security company (or at least they greatly improved the Van Eck), and is mainly used to make monitors safer =) - wvdavis, on 12/25/2007, -1/+9Wasn't TSS on after your curfew?
- crichton101, on 12/25/2007, -0/+8G4 couldn't even make an interesting channel about video games, the only way they could get viewers was to buy a better channel that had them.
- nshady, on 12/25/2007, -0/+8Buried for not properly explaining how I could better spy on people.
- sgoogle, on 12/25/2007, -0/+8Quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Eck_phreaking
LCDs
In April 2004 new academic research has revealed that flat screens and laptop displays are also vulnerable to an FPGA-driven electromagnetic eavesdropping. The required equipment for espionage was constructed in a university lab for less than 2000 US dollars. - Markpdotcom, on 12/25/2007, -0/+7Dugg down by the keyboard hacking mafia! You will never stop me revealing your secrets!
- SoCalMario, on 12/25/2007, -0/+7and they managed to screw that up too!
- GregoryHarbin, on 12/25/2007, -1/+8Cut a hole in the copper box...
Have her open the box... - jhendrix86, on 12/25/2007, -0/+7i remember this exact segment....this must have been AT LEAST 4 or 5 years ago
- DeFex, on 12/25/2007, -0/+6they dont need this anymore. all internet traffic is sent straight to the government .
- Takuro, on 12/25/2007, -0/+5Kevin using a Linux shell and talking with a slight lisp??? Anybody else think he used to be a little annoying? I can't picture this giddy kid in a cheesy red shirt casting Diggnation.
Thank God years of beer drinking and Macs made him what he is today. - Cregaune, on 12/25/2007, -0/+5Yes we 'have'. And it's a measure of the gullibility and technical ignorance of the English that the bluff has been working (frightening people into paying the ridiculous tax) for more than 40 years. Depressing.
- 3leggedHorse, on 12/25/2007, -1/+6 Next thing companies will be putting pixel size cams in monitors. that's no dead pixel.
- Randomheroz, on 12/27/2007, -0/+5Indeed
- CrazyDave303, on 12/25/2007, -0/+4here's a very good paper about the subject:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/techreports/UCAM-CL-TR-577 ...
from reading this I can see it is NOT a hoax. The quality is crappy but it does work. - inactive, on 12/25/2007, -1/+5The signals won't get through my tin foil helmet. No Way!
- StckMn2, on 12/25/2007, -1/+5...to the occasion?
- UKsHaDoW, on 12/25/2007, -0/+4I'm pretty sure he still uses Linux on ocoation. Real techies don't have grudges over os'es. They know how to use them all.
I have mac, but my old pc is Linux. - Soave, on 12/25/2007, -2/+6I was hoping it would give a little more information about the "Van Eck Phreaking" concept rather than telling us how a Faraday Cage works :(
- antych, on 12/25/2007, -0/+4It's a reality, I attended a training course where it was demonstrated. That's why some government organisation need special hardware or shielding to block computers EMF.
