Well clearly im not one of those 'teens' in the topic, and 6/10 is barely more then half.. So i don't see whats news about this.. I though everybody already knew this?? - Lochlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting article, well written, dugg
- xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well its because teens are TOLD to hide their identity all the time.
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you really think my name is mine?
- TheProfessional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0o rly
Who would have possibly thought?! - blhack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i've been John smith for ever :)....with a zip code of 90210.
Everytime i msg somebody on MSN, people are like, WTF? who is John? - supert0ad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i am also a canadian teen from zip code 90210. i didn't realize it was so popular.
i usually enter my real name though. i don't care if somebody knows who i am, but wanting to know where i live is a bit much just to sign up for a newsletter or something - AaronD12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and in related news, the sky is blue and water is wet.
- debian_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The other 2/5ths must be the hoard of teens on Myspace throwing out every detail about themselves down to their favorite tampon brand (TMI).
- yaddayadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a 31 year old Australian man, I have no idea what this is talking about.
/cough cough nudge nudge - rhnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not surprising, I am a 14 year old Canadian and I hide my identity (I do a podcast and so not really hidden and I have been since I've been on the net when I was 7. Although, now a days, most teens in Canada us MSN spaces which they write everything about themselves in and post photos...
- dragoonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is no surprise to me.
4chan.org - Anonymous, no need to hide your identity. - laserone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm, who doesn't? I thought most people knew better than to use their real names online.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hear they are mostly posing as perverted FBI agents.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0in other news, ten million people live in beverly hills!
- tetleyex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am David Davids, from Stoke-on-Trent in the UK I'm 21, and I fight bad guys in the name of good and justice, as far as most internet-y places are concerned. Some of the people I've known on xbox live for years think my name is David Tetleyex.
In real life though, I'm not 21, and my name isn't David Davids, or David Tetleyex, but I do live in Stoke, and belive it or not, I don't fight bad guys in the name of good and justice. - debian_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Well its because teens are TOLD to hide their identity all the time."
Teens do what they're told? What? - mindlessxd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Teens hide their identity because they don't want to be prosecuted for illegal activity... any file-sharing teen who knows what a static IP address is will hide their identity.
- Jon2x4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still do a little bit but sometimes i like to fool people by puting as my phone# 957-217-7337 which stands for you-eat-sh!t...lol
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I disclose pretty much everything about me on some forums.. but some sites I just prefer to remain under a mask of anonymousness.
I mean stuff that you get very detailed about, and might be embarassing in real life. I don't mind sharing it online, as long as nobody knows who I am ;)
(14, male)
Josh - xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Teens do what they're told? What?"
Well they probably dont take the advice directly, but it sticks in the back of their mind until they make the decision on their own. - jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So very true. Would YOU use your first and last name on Something Awful?
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the point of this article? I'm a 30 year old guy, and *I* like to hide my identity on the net too. So what?
- EliGottlieb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a teenager, I can confirm that we hide our identities on the internet.
Or am I a teenager? - Jeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ohh interesting
- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just wish they would hide their entire presence online. Especially in World of Warcraft.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"We should not get too hysterical about it" That should be engraved into a metal bar and beaten into everyones head
Kids play dress-up, it's a technical extension of that, no?
But, yeh, the article does kinda state the obvious.. "A small percentage reported being bullied on Net." "Block button" online, compared to "Live in a metal box" in person..
Without the internet, I would not know even a hundereth of what I know, most of my hobbies were either directly found on the internet (Games like Operation Flashpoint, wich I do scripting/model for, and the friends I've meet via that), or (more notable) photography (Which will stay as a hobbie) and video editing (Which I intend to do as a career).. None of these I would have bothered about if it wasn't for Mr Internet and all the things that use it.. I've learned more from the internet than from school (Well, the latter 3/4 anyway, I'm sure the first year or two are important)
Any, the best times to abduct me ar-- wait, it's maybe not the liek bst ida 2 sey dat??.. Err.. People who put full names/addresses etc on things like MySpace, maybe the world is a better place without that level of idiocy?
- Ben - Demagogue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doesnt count because it was done in canada....
lol. - psylence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy ***** DUH.
- AbsentLight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Hi, my name is AbsentLight. No, seriously, that's what my parents named me... I am 21 years old. I do not do any type of illegal file sharing activities at all. My ip address is 127.0.0.1. I enjoy skiing, hunting, talking on aim, browsing myspace, and making up fake alter-egos."
No, seriously. - tdkpetrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I fail to see any relation between this story and news, interesting or even remotely 'bookmark worthy'.
This is one of the times the O RLY owl could accentuate the stupidity of the matter at hand. - Shownarou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What do you expect? Canadians are paranoid.
- diggerboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's good. I know people at school, including me, still hide their ID.
- scottym, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Skaught,
That was my first thought exactly.
Duh. - denatoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If a girl says she's 16, and her personality portrays that she is 16, then she's a 34 year old man.
- Kerjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This just in, people like privacy. More on this at 10.
- dolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who wants my personal information? And who cares who you are (except the kiddie pedophiles), in retrospect it is a good idea to hide your identity, or Michael Jackson will show up at your door.
- suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There were so many gramical errors in that.
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AAAH REALLY?!!! I never would have guessed
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This doesn't surprise me whatsoever... in fact, more people ought to hide their identity as well - it's safer.
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ must be a Canadian... ;P no digg
- DWornock, on 08/29/2009, -0/+0Peple have the natural right to hide their identity assume whatever identity they choose. That includes a 70 year old man pretending to be a 16 year old girl. If the busybodies don't like it, let them find something constructive to do such as pick up trash along a highway. No one forces them to view the profiles. The rule is, let the buyer beware. In this case that meams take what you find or don't find on the internet about someone with a grain of salt.
In fact, I am proud of the teens. Perhaps they are learning how invasive the criminals that own our government and the people are. All young people and others up to age 30 or 40 should acquire an alternate ID in case they need to hide from the criminals that own us and disappear. To do this, they should acquire make ID Cards and identification documents and create a new identity. Instructions to do just that can be found at www.new-identification.com. At my age, it is not necessary. The criminal mafia in charge are not likely to go after retires.
It is the young that are in danger of being rounded up by the military and put into FEMA's Concentration Camps that the criminals have been building. The enclosres will include high fences and bobwire and no doubt heavly guarded with thugs carrying automatic weapons. Whatever, Germany was in the 30s and 40s the USA is becoming and worse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...I would have never guessed that we dont want people online to know our real names!!
no digg for you! - Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0you are not a teen that's why jackass.
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Still, Ms. Wing said that the fact teenagers are going on-line to bully others is cause for concern."
Yah, it damn sure is, they should get their off their lard asses and go chase down some skinny kid and punch them in the face a few times.
Skinny loser decides to bulk up.
Fat ass loses some weight in the process.
EVERYONE WINS!!! -
