- DanTheManPR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My bad - this article is actually a few months old. Still, it does make the excellent point that using more than one spyware remover it absolutely necessary.
I'm not sure how relevant the tests are anymore, but one of the things that struck me was how badly the Adaware/spybot combo fared. If they were already doing bad a few months ago, then they most assuredly aren't doing very good right now.
From what I've seen of more recent tests, Webroot spysweeper catches the most malware these days. Still, MS anti-virus is no slouch.
"I ran a scan with MS Antispyware, found nothing. Ran a scan with Webroot Spy Sweeper found nothing. Ran a scan with Spybot S&D. Ding Ding Ding we found something."
Adaware and Spybot do find more cookies than other programs - so they aren't entirely useless. But they do fail to find some really big problems. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I ran a scan with MS Antispyware, found nothing. Ran a scan with Webroot Spy Sweeper found nothing. - bloodrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so ther is ad/spy ware for firefox. it,s just IE is use more. but if firefox was more popular then. IE it would happen to it also.
- Miyamoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The study is very interesting. However, I have seen first hand ad-adware, MS anti-spyware and pest patrol being used on an infected computer. Pest patrol found twice as much as MS anti-spyware and more than that for ad-adware. Pest patrol was ranked lower than both of them on the list though.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what kind of anti-spyware article doesnt even tell people to ditch IE and get firefox. that is a critical step and they pretended it didnt exist. it makes me think they are trying to sell something and dont want you to prevent spyware, they want you to pay them to remove it. that or they're just ignorant. they try to say that people should stick with IE if they dont like spyware. this makes absolutely no sense at all.
