- Spacemanspif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Does anyone speak English anymore? The title does not make any sense, and the article is very poorly written. I'm no professor myself, and this is the Internet and all, but it hurts to read this.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those guys were ethical letting google know first, it helps the community somehow, the most important thing is the analysis on how things work.
- pancho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This might be a stupid question, but when did it become so wrong to like google?
Google is a good company that offers good products. - BBX25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I significantly doubt my GMail account has anything important in it, anyways.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Back and forth whining rocks!
- capajc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"and you even knew it"
Wha?
"Fanboy", to me, has the negative connotation of someone who prefers something and defends that preference beyond all reason/logic, blind to any other option. "Apologist" might be another name for it. Not all people who like/use Google are fanboys; those who think so are just fanboys of another color.
Any public e-mail system has similar flaws. Without exception. The difference comes in how each company handles/fixes or ignores those flaws.
Dugg for the general idea, but not for the lame Google bashing. - meangene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, they should be called "Topdogs" or something like that.
- chriskelley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Does anyone speak English anymore? The title does not make any sense, and the article is very poorly written. I'm no professor myself, and this is the Internet and all, but it hurts to read this."
Who says the author's first language is English? So basically they're considerate enough to the masses to publish the article in English, although broken English, and yet it receives badgering. It would be a lot harder for you to read if it were in a language you don't understand at all. Be grateful for what you're given. - Waffles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it rather amusing - language and grammar aside.
They reported the bug to Google, Google quietly fixes it in 4 days.
They are then upset because Google didn't publicly thank and acknowledge them, so they release the details to a bug that no longer works as revenge.
???
Profit - MasherSCF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That grammer is distractingly bad. I can't even tell what he means.
- ScottyQuest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at the pictures people. His browser is in spanish. The man's native language is Spanish. You can tell (if you speak Spanish yourself) just from the way he structures his sentences. Reguardless, he did the best he could to explain this topic in English and he gets "OMG HIS GRMMR IS TEH SUXX0RS!" Give the guy a break, at least it's not in leet speak.
- Scott - Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get it, "you even knew it".
- JeffS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quick, someone submit the sendmail exploit from 1996. k,thx.
- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't mean to sound like a "fanboy" or anything, but what the hell is "google has been defeated once more" supposed to mean? Did I miss something where they did something wrong?
- handeyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0honestly though, do u think this actually happened to anyone
- FarcicalFart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Creepy, it's good I don't keep anything important in my e-mail.
- handeyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fanboys sounds so lame, wish there was a better nickname for people who like stuff
- sporkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Every system has it's flaws, even Google.
- wingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well hotmail has had its peaks too.
it was just after ms bought hotmail that it became less userfriendly and java-based. i also experienced the first server downtime and email not going where i send them.
- awesinine, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0a better term for fanboy is advocate.
you can be a google advocate and still recognize that they need improvement btw. - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll log into my account sometimes and notice that it starts in Basic HTML mode, when I use it in normal (AJAX) mode. Does this happen to everyone, or is some douche logging into my account with an unsupported browser?
Naturally, I change my password when it happens, but apparently that doesn't matter. - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am confused. From this article, don't you have to have the same IP address?
Eric Wilson - JackCampbell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hence the word "beta" on Gmail
- absurd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah this story is lame.. im glad some russian spamers have been sending spam from my account for a year, our course i know gmails in beta-- that's why i dont really care. At least i know why its been happening. Google's the best, im so glad their PhDs are soooooo smart. I bet this loophole existed for a reason though, too bad im too stupid to know why.
- frositay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sure google has its flaw, but lets be honest, you have to have a fair bit of knowledge about URL deciphering and editing to pull off that stunt. +digg I lvoe these kinds of things -hacks ex-GF's gmail- xD
- robweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that was the most poorly written article I've seen in a while. it was so hard to follow i couldn't even finish it.
- MrCoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0beta. learn the word
- sdwebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dittos to spacemanspif. very difficult to read. might have been easier to read in spanish and run through google translator. :)
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it's no fun if it's already been corrected.
- bhsx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Linux is already hated by plenty of people.
Of course, those people deserve to be shot into Sol.
It's time to brutally kill the intolorant. - lowridah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i get the problem with my gmail switching from standard (ajax) to basic html. I've been told it's a cookie thing, but i personally do think i've been exploited a number of times =
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoever typed the title to this Digg is a RETARD of the HIGHEST ORDER!
- erraggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no digg...
do digg the limitless useless whining though...
;-} - Eraser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All Google's products are beta... and stay in beta for an extended amount of time - the excuse that their products are "beta" are not an excuse. Though bugs occur in any program... the excuse of leaving things in "beta" is getting old.
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its good that they reported to Google first, who cares about publicity... no digg for you!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0His grammar would have been much better if he attended school in Canada.
- Zoobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The discoverer reported it to google first, and by reading the writing of the article author, you can see that they weren't happy about it. Also miffed that they didn't get a "thank you", they posted this information.
Big flippin deal. They're glory hounds. The ANELKAOS character who told Google and didn't publicize it - is the smart one. The rest of these guys are just dorks. - aximum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jasqwerty:
The original link in Spanish, before the translation:
http://elhacker.net/gmailbug/
That info was public for the first time on Oct 23 (without the explanation):
http://www.elistas.net/lista/informativos/archivo/indice/61/msg/79/ - antiwmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol. cookie modifiying works with almost the logins out there, and if you know their auth code, cookie id, you can just login if you modify the cookie.
many people claims that they "discovered" that vuln and act like they found a big hole. - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF is this *****?
I remember a very similiar bug from a WHILE ago, it was even in spanish, like this screenshots are. You know, I bet he just ripped it off, for his lame group, I'm going to find the spanish original. - bivouac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank god for whatever it is in human nature that turns everyone against the popular, successful, and powerful.
Mac will be be hated soon, maybe someday linux will be too - the minute it is widely accepted. - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nevermind, I thought it said November 18th. LOL
Still a WHILE ago, and people defending this:
YOU ARE RETARDED!!!
Yes, other email providers MIGHT have bugs, but not as serious or obvious as this.
Cookie based authentication with a static unvalidated authentication hash?
Come on, they pay PhDs to turn out code monkey thrash? You learn not to do this in your second week in any web design course. - dieseltravis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone proof their titles before submitting? I realize that English is a difficult language, but titles like this one look horrible on digg's home page.
- geekboy2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who tries to extort a "Thank You" out of someone? I think Mr. Helper has a few issues to deal with.
- LoneStar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0everyone makes mistakes.. google is notperfect but it is very close
- stderr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0bleh, google is not that secure
- Waffles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What you say!!!
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0clever
- unknownsoldier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It sounds to me like google were less than helpful when the guys presented this bug?
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Somebody set them up the bug.
