- Gaulven, on 11/08/2007, -4/+1225IP addresses with numbers > 255: the 555-1212 of the Internet.
- superfusion, on 11/14/2007, -1/+916Only slighty more retarded than when CSI zoomed in on the eyeglasses of a tourist in a photo to catch the reflection of a crook -- "Hey, can you turn these 16 pixels into a high-rez human face?" "No problem ... I'll just click the magic button!"
- Dradis, on 11/08/2007, -6/+657And we all know (thanks to the RIAA) that an IP address is just like a fingerprint when it comes to identifying suspects..
- johnnybluejeans, on 11/14/2007, -1/+480You know what would be really awesome? If they zoomed in on someone's eyes to get the reflection of someone else's face, then zoom in on the eyes of that reflected face to get the face of someone else, and then zoomed in on that person's eyes to see Kevin Bacon.
- dogearedboy, on 11/07/2007, -2/+378Should have started with 192.168........ Like one of those horror movies: "The 'call' Is coming from inside the house!"
- unthunk, on 11/08/2007, -19/+280Isn't that the episode where Chief Wiggim types up a police report on his invisible typewriter?
- salmonmoose, on 11/08/2007, -9/+268why not use 192.168.xxx.xxx so any dipstick who tries to hack the criminals only arses up their own network?
- synth7, on 11/07/2007, -50/+280The elusive Class D address
- PacoDEmu, on 11/07/2007, -3/+176Better than a fingerprint, an IP address is a smoking gun. The whole internet is illegal, according to some.
- alexandrend, on 10/25/2007, -6/+179127.0.0.1 would be worse.
- jonr, on 10/23/2007, -4/+168Only available in MovieOS
- Synth3t1c, on 10/25/2007, -0/+160I've seen one where they zoomed in on a child molester's EYES and enhanced the REFLECTION IN HIS EYES to see a porthole to know he was on some boat or something like that.
WHAT THE HELL - Nicksname1, on 11/07/2007, -5/+144ill just type in the enhance command with -r switch for repair and presto!!!
On an unrelated CSI note the best worst one was when the cheerleader girl smoked PCP and ate the ribs of another cheerleader after killing her because they were after the same guy( and she was on PCP). But the way they found her was because the cheerleader had ecoli and the other girl caught it when she ate her ribs. But at the very end this retarded detective turns to the camera and says "I guess experimenting with drugs isnt so harmless after all"
Man that show sucks! - NonpareilNagle, on 10/29/2007, -2/+128CSI reminds me of how much the people who watch this show have no clue about technology
- mlostracco, on 11/07/2007, -1/+127I think it's funny on CSI that the default is that they DON'T "enhance" it when zooming in. So, the guy at the computer zooms in and leaves it all pixely, and then it has to take someone else to request enhancement.
- vuke69, on 11/03/2007, -4/+130Ummm... Class D (224.0.0.0-239.255.255.255) exists, and so does class E (240.0.0.0-254.255.255.255).
Methinks someone needs to take a networking class (heh, get it, class). - ncc74656m, on 10/26/2007, -0/+126At least Trinity used nmap in the Matrix.
- tizz66, on 10/28/2007, -2/+124Buried for 'burried'.
- leogodin217, on 10/24/2007, -14/+136Jesus Christ could use a 355.*.*.* ip address. He is God after all.
- Metman, on 11/07/2007, -2/+105867-5309
- Hockey37, on 10/25/2007, -4/+100I knew I shouldn't have tried that damned "Get your FBI file" link on Digg the other day. Now they know where I am.
- AdmiralJimbob, on 11/08/2007, -15/+109*****, how did they find me
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -12/+104Man CSI is a crappy show, its actually less realistic than Star Trek...
- duke, on 11/07/2007, -2/+94In the late seventies, the original Battlestar Galactica measured time in units called "chrons". One time, an enemy vessel was approaching and a crewmember announced that it was 12 michrons away. It sounded like "microns" and I kept thinking "DAMN, they're close!!"
- kamel, on 10/25/2007, -1/+93As mentioned in a previous thread about something similar, they should just use their own IP. They'd get a ton of traffic.
- badken, on 11/07/2007, -0/+90"Our webs are down, sir."
"Which ones?"
"ALL of them!" - DustPuppySnr, on 10/25/2007, -3/+93If we can somehow use this super secret block of IP's, maybe we can hold off with IPV6 for a few more years.
- jeffness, on 10/23/2007, -2/+91Yeah, it's not really fair to laugh at them for this. They're just being responsible. We don't laugh at TV or films that use 555- phone numbers.
- mock, on 10/25/2007, -0/+85their software is highly sophisticated. highly.
- DarkCanuck12, on 10/25/2007, -6/+84That was friggin' hilarous. They do that crap all the time with glasses, water drops, license plates. Like, common, think about it.
- xevidentx, on 10/24/2007, -5/+81how did a post on TCP/IP turn into religion????
- asiegrist, on 06/20/2009, -4/+77Of course all the geeks here debate what a real ip address is instead of enjoying the hilarity of the picture.
- bightchee, on 11/03/2007, -38/+110359.xxx.xxx.xxx will be like the "555-xxxx" fake phone numbers given out by people on television and movies.
- falstaff, on 11/07/2007, -2/+72"The call is coming from inside the house!"
Seriously, if that showed up on TV, they'd get made fun of for that, too. There's no winning with geeks when you try to be technical and responsible at the same time. - getjustin, on 10/26/2007, -3/+73Gotta love Hollywood GUIs. Plus you'll never make a mistake when you're typing!
- senfo, on 10/25/2007, -2/+69Better yet, 127.0.0.1.
- ninxmz, on 10/25/2007, -2/+69Did you mean: come on ?
- mt066, on 10/23/2007, -2/+68Enhance that image! Then we can see inside his windows!
- wilcocola, on 11/07/2007, -3/+68your comment rhymes
- centran, on 10/21/2007, -1/+61Doesn't that cost money? Why not use a free service like google!!!
1-800-GOOG-411 - cbrunet, on 10/29/2007, -3/+61OH NO! The RIAA has joined forces with CSI! We're screwed!!!!
- leogodin217, on 10/20/2007, -4/+59Isn't CSI a TV show? In light of that, I find your comment very ironic. But hey, it's nice to see your anti American sentiment over a funny picture.
- Smuikas, on 10/24/2007, -0/+53It's the 21st century version of the urban legend:
Sir, we've traced that ip address! The spam is coming from inside your network! I REPEAT: the SPAM is coming from INSIDE YOUR NETWORK! - fak3r, on 10/25/2007, -0/+52Big green box appears on the screen:
+------------------------------+
!!! Access Granted !!!

movie hacker: Cool! We're in!
movie dunce: Can you reroute the infostacker to process the demonsqualler virus via the backup system board?
movie hacker: Done! - ColorBlind, on 10/25/2007, -0/+52real crime fighters use IPv6
- PRlME, on 11/07/2007, -3/+55What the ***** are you talking about, Star Trek is real *****.
- raynar, on 11/07/2007, -0/+52Wait, you mean real cops dont all wear sunglass indoors, look like teen models, and use their flashlights instead of turning on the lights at a crime scene?
- mescad, on 10/20/2007, -2/+53Yep, that's what I was thinking. However, 555-1212 is one of the numbers used to call Information, like 411, in my (and I assume all) area codes in the U.S. 800-555-1212 is the ever useful 800-number information.
- mercano, on 10/25/2007, -1/+52Um, if only 0.0000001% of IP4 address were in use, then we wouldn't have to switch to IP6. Besides, there are over 6 billion people on Earth the IP address space only has 4.3 billion possible address, a good deal of which can't be used for general use. The class D address (224.*.*.* - 247.*.*.*)are reserve for multicast use and the Class Es (248.*.*.* - 255.*.*.*)are set aside for "experimental use." You won't find 10.*.*.* or 192.168.*.* addresses in the wild, either, as they are set aside for use on internal networks, and have probably been recycled countless times. And tying up the entire 127.*.*.* class A block for loopback was just crazy.
This leaves us with 2^32-2^24-2^28-2^28-2^16-2^24=3,724,476,416 addresses, more or less, for something in the neighborhood of 6,600,000,000 people, or 1.77 people per routable IP address, not "0.000000001"
Wow, did I spend way to long on this. - NonpareilNagle, on 10/25/2007, -4/+54The image was enhanced using Adobe® Photoshop® software.
