- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sure they will in the final product. :)
- jdowdell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Update: Photoshop PM John Nack has info from Thomas DeMeo of the Version Cue team with more detailed info on what's going on in the preview release, here:

jd/adobe - defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just to let y'all know:
1) It's the first CS3 beta. I'm sure they weren't aware of the strange claim that "the processor use of this process can go up to 90%!"
2) This isn't a trojan, P2P program, or anything that you wouldn't want on your computer. My first "googling" showed:
Security Risk (0-5): 0
Spyware: No
Virus: No
Trojan: No
All this program does is set up "zero-configuration" network printing between Windows & Macs. I use it to print on our laserjet printer in the office when I don't want to clean out my black ink cartridge on my color deskjet. Give 'em time and I'm sure they will add it to the custom intallations of the beta installer. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Doesn't iTunes install this?
- afcool83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3mDNSresponder is NOT spyware, it's a networking protocol that lets your computer discover other computers and read their advertised services on a subnet. Read up about your topics before you post them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonjour_%28software%29, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeroconf.
- 0000hGulag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's the place to take the bonjour sneakyware discussion.. thanks
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3don't need it, don't want it.
Would have been nice of them to inform us its there...... - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Its made by Apple to autosetup networks. Its not p2p. I think the window version is just for printers.
- jdowdell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Update: As often happens when a few paragraphs of text gets approved by a group, there are lots of edits and digressions in internal email... taking longer than I would have guessed.
The core of it is that Apple's "Bonjour" software is indeed used, for connection to other local services in Version Cue. No info is tranferred to Adobe. We do need to document this better so that other folks aren't unduly alarmed when the software is actually released, so thanks for the datapoint here.
jd/adobe - jdowdell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry for the delay... I escalated this to the Photoshop team yesterday, and it looks like there's a Version Cue connection with Apple. I'll post solid info once I get it, but "afcool83" has the general gist of the sense I get internally on this subject.

http://www.insibio.unt.edu.ar/downloads/antispywar ... - GoogIPO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0ok, so it's not spyware, but It' still totally unacceptable that Adobe installs something like that without the user's permission. I've been thinking for a while about upgrading from Photoshop CS2 to the new CS3. After finding out about this, I've decided to stick with CS2. bye bye Adobe, you just lost a potential customer.

- afcool83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great post, JD. Thanks for quelling the undue fear of mdns-zero-bonjour-dezvous-conf at the source.
