- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Yeah, I f'd up and posted before I read the article. Please mod me down for being a jackass.
- Settra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20You can talk in Hex. Congratulations.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17The mystery of the haunted gold mine. It was Old Man Johnson dressed up as a ghost. And he would have got away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!
- skitzot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16About damn time someone owned up to this.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"“You know how when you call someone up and just say the same thing over and over again, like ‘3, 3, 3,’ eventually they will repeat it back to you in order to get you to stop."
Um, no. No, I don't know. - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"“You know how when you call someone up and just say the same thing over and over again, like ‘3, 3, 3,’ eventually they will repeat it back to you in order to get you to stop."
Hanging up kind of sounds like a more realistic response. - pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They really creep me out too, I have no idea why. But for some reason, someone announcing numbers for some unknown reason over static is beyond creepy. Especially the music that proceeds them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7JimXugle I got a cipher for you to decrypt:
PWEND BICTH! - lunarworks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I've listened to MP3s of those "numbers stations".
They honestly creep me out. - scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In the pudding
- AstroZombie138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So what are they telling us, One time pads are non-crackable, ok that is not news... Someone crack a number station and you've then got my full attention. These things have been a big mystery for years.
- cypre$$, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Strom Carlson is the man! I met him at HOPE and he his really cool. I had no idea that he was involved with this.
- error10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Click through and you can get recordings of all of them.
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4wow electric.... have you ever heard of 2600 or Defcon?, anyhow i really wish i coulda attended this year :'( good stuff, haha i love it!
- babarrakus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm both glad and saddened that its over.It was soo kool trying to find out why someone would do this.
- NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What do you mean by that? Who's parannoid?
- uberbaur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I actually was just researching "numbers stations"
The wikipedia article is good...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_stations
And here are a ton of recorded number stations, some international, and some are old (WW2 era)...
http://www.archive.org/details/ird059 - error10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You should try it sometime. They did play an audio recording of the actual telephone calls to random people and it's pretty clear that the (prank-) called parties were the ones who said the numbers.
- dan4prez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is the official website for the group that was behind the whole thing:
http://projectevil.org/
You can read more about it there. - awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aww, what a shame. I was hoping it was a goverment-related conspiracy to kill somebody.
:( Gotta wait till next year, then. - lgringo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a youngster, I heard many of these shortwave broadcasts "live"...I never knew anyone else who listen to them, like me. I always though it was either: spies (coldwar stuff) or, drug smugglers.
I'll never forget the spanish-speaking female voice signing off:
FINAL...FINAL...FINAL - projektmayhem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah i remember listening to "off the hook" and when emmanuel played the number stations for the first time (and for 2 or 3 weeks subsequent) it really did give me the creeps. then it got even stranger when 2600ers were recognising their voices in it.
- Fortyseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a torrent:
http://www.homelandstupidity.us/download/Mein_Fraulein.torrent - Zer0Her0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What I want to check out is that CD. Is it just what's on their website or is there more on it. Anyone wish to ISO it and post it? ;-)
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Of course a little dig into 2600, har har.
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3This was going on long before bored nerds who are paid to just show up and cruise the internet started dicking with it. You just go ahead and swallow that psy-ops *****. Dont forget the US is in Iraq to liberate people, and, oh yeah, what‘s best for the corporations is best for the world. Not to seem cynical, but freaking “black hats” who go to conventions and post on internet forums wouldn’t know a black hat if it fell on them, even while having lunch at a Taco Bell on the Las Vegas strip.
- stanvman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Some great research guys. Thanks for spamming Craigslist!
- simonponder, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5i love this, what a great setup for a practical joke, or to mess with the paranoid.
- ksherwuker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Interesting, but what mystery was revealed?
- revmitcz, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6Ahh..... rats. Another social experiment that got everyone worked up. I hate to sound Anti-American here, but can't just once this be a genuine threat? Better yet, a genuine threat foiled by armchair hackers on Digg, et al?
All this social experimenting is pissing me off. ***** or get off the pot, eh? - ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Where's the proof? How do we know that he isn't just making this story up?
- Andyr3w, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1yeah ditto prooof we call for proof
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1i'm new at posting comments as well. i get mod all the time.
- DuNzTaR, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3I dont get it.

:-P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -38/+2I called one of the 415 numbers and I gotta tell ya, it creeped me out. Anybody know if any recordings were made of those?
