I struggle to comprehend this statement...assuming it does come in encrypted, and my OS renders it as Text (so I can read it)...what stops me from forwarding it? Once it is decrypted it's fair game, or at least easily circumnavigated. - Coven, on 02/02/2009, -3/+160Your computer self destructs after displaying the e-mail for 15 seconds.
- WibWobble, on 02/02/2009, -10/+117obama@gmail.com. I know this because he dropped his blackberry while reading his mails and I picked it up for him. The open email was "Matt Damon wants a 50% increase - HELP?"
/sarcasm - Sonan, on 02/02/2009, -2/+93I bet they mean his e-mail address is "encrypted" (more likely proxied), so that when you forward the e-mail, the recipients can't just look through the headers to find his address. The proxy server is probably setup to only allow replies to messages he originated, so that unsolicited messages get dropped unless they're from trusted addresses or something. And I assume it also strips off attachments and does all the other usual tasks of virus scanning and spam blocking.

- haikuFU, on 02/02/2009, -1/+70The reason they left out Gates is because that guy is notorious for sending annoying forwards and jokes.
- Gerchak, on 02/02/2009, -3/+72The Nigerians are frothing at the mouth to offer a "Royalty Bailout" ;)

- gbudavid, on 02/02/2009, -28/+68I hope He Gets Spam...
- rmxz, on 02/02/2009, -1/+40Seems to me he should have many email addresses -- one he gives Biden, one he gives Defense Secretary Gates.
These email addresses could of course all be forwarded to one mailbox; and if/when one leaks his to the press it gets blacklisted and the sender gets a different one. - WaCkYmAk, on 02/02/2009, -9/+44Yes_I_Did@gmail.com
- HHP2K, on 02/02/2009, -0/+34FTA:
We've all seen this picture below of him using a BlackBerry since becoming president, though what he's holding is "actually a more sophisticated, encrypted variation." Biden has one just like it.
Which means that it's likely they thought about giving him a more difficult e-mail address to guess than the default one. - cpdylan, on 02/02/2009, -2/+32Why is this such a big story!?!!? Shouldn't the president have a secret email? Is this really beyond reason? After all, he is the PRESIDENT!
- akchrs, on 02/02/2009, -1/+27The email address or did you mean something else?
- Megadeth222, on 02/02/2009, -0/+25I'd hate to be Defense Secretary Robert Gates, id feel so left out :(

- MadEnvoy, on 02/02/2009, -1/+14...and are probably going through their own BlackBerry server.
- allmessedup, on 02/02/2009, -0/+13These "secret" email addresses that every military commander also have are on a different network (aka - the SIPRNET) which is completely separate from the Internet. That's why you can't email them from your .com accounts.
- TheNyquilKid, on 02/02/2009, -1/+13I wonder what his ring tones are.
- leetninja, on 02/02/2009, -2/+13so who did you steal that mildly racial comment from? i know it isnt your originality shining through there ...
- fightingirish, on 02/02/2009, -0/+11Yes and he's probably using a family share plan so he can save on his monthly phone bill as well.
- inigomntoya, on 02/02/2009, -0/+10Exactly - by these standards, I have a super secret email address as well (or at least one that hasn't been published on Digg).
- wanderson, on 02/02/2009, -0/+10My welcome?
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -0/+10Ignoring the rest of the comment....$4k is a small price to allow him and future presidents the convenience of wireless....that is just a $1K/year for his current term. If he is re-elected, it works to only $500/year

There, now everyone has it. - GTPilot, on 02/02/2009, -0/+7Seems like this poster is one of the sheep who bought into all the last administration's fear mongering.
- Giever, on 02/03/2009, -0/+7Thing is, that is totally entirely 100% accepted sort of because people can have trouble reading sarcasm in text. He didn't "explain" it.
- publiclurker, on 02/02/2009, -2/+9I'm sure he doesn't know since all of his friends are always wearing sheets over their heads.

- mhmandthen, on 02/02/2009, -2/+7Who thinks Gmail is lame?
Certainly not I. - Platypus3333, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6My understanding is that it is not immediate. That would have grave implications for national security and would thus make absolutely no sense.
- treehugger87, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5You did want to spend that money, actually. Failing to protect the private and official communication of the President while he is in office seems like it could put a few people in harm's way.
And as for your half-baked racial comment, you actually seemed sane, if a little overzealous, up until that point. It's good to see your true colors, though. - diadem2, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6In heaven's name, why?
