- ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read the story.... The virus itself is spread through the AIM IM application. The only reason it has anything to do with iTunes at all is that the .exe file it spreads is named ITUNES.exe since it is such a popular application and may confuse people as to what is running. This is not a flaw in any Apple code and is a problem with a hole in the AIM IM client.

APPLE SUCKS - bobetr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0why do people do stupid things like direct connect or click links or accept files from people they don't know or wont tell them who they are. Stupidity people. That's the problem.
- sonofa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The solution is, only install iTunes from a download from the iTunes website. Its free, why would anyone look for it anywhere else?
- chrisdelta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True. But keep in mind who makes the iTunes application itself. ;)
- Neil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who the hell would even download iTunes through AIM.
- Madmod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i got it like a week ago
- adamcurtis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not the iTunes application itself that's the virus right? The .exe file is just named iTunes to get people to run it. Other than that iTunes and apple has nothing to do with it.
- Space_Balls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Misleading title, since it's not targetting iTunes users, the title should instead focus on what problem is being exploited, not what the file name is. When a email worm that exploits a hole is going around, you won't talk about a worm targetting email users either.....
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dose anyone know if this affects trillian?
- ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"why do people do stupid things like direct connect or click links or accept files from people they don't know or wont tell them who they are. Stupidity people. That's the problem."
Exactly. The vast majority of Windows problems are due to an utterly clueless user base.
"I downloaded ITUNES.EXE from some guy I've never met before or heard of and I ran it as administrator!!! Argh stupid windows!"
Give me a break people. Half of these exploits are the equivalent of downloading some program for Linux/MacOS X/Solaris from some random website and running them as root then wondering what happened. - SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank god I don't own a PC, even though I'm typing from one right now (work). Macs rule.
- MarloMericuelo, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0To have a secure downloading.. You must indeed download the official website of apple: www.apple.com/itunes to get this itune program...
Do not ever save files through AIM please.. to have a secure downloading..
You also need to scan it in your antivirus..(mine is Avira) it is great.. really good.. - soimless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes it effects trillian if your hobby is to open .jpg.exe files on your spare time. Trillian won't spread the worm your going to have to use the real version of AIM to do that.
- realnebby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Space Balls is right on. The highline should be New virus targets non-itunes users as an itunes using would not have a need to download a file named itunes.exe.
- cal0001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it dose not target iTunes it uses a file name and who the hell would download iTunes through aim
- wjm0139, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would be worried if my iTunes even worked!! Of course I'm not surprised that a piece of software from Apple keeps crashing my Windows PC, just getting their revenge on M$ i guess.
- clubgus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well Well What's new! another virus for the Windoz platform!! Tisk Tisk Tisk, Lets assume every .EXE (Executable) out there is a Potential Virus for Windows platforms, I think its time for Windoz users to make the switch to a new Operating system that Runs iTunes without viruses, no hints on that one ;).
