- notyourbroom, on 05/22/2009, -1/+55Anyone else read the headline and think, "How the hell can a virus only make FBI agents and US Marshals sick?"

AUTHENTICATION FAILURE!
- Powered by SkyNet - inactive, on 05/22/2009, -1/+104chan did it.
- vsujohn2, on 05/22/2009, -1/+9That just happened.
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -4/+11I'm hoping the payload is a data hijacker. It would be nice to have some transparency with respect to law enforcement organizations.

- nirvanix, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6Hmm, interesting this happens right when Congress/Obama is pushing a cyber security bill that will give them power to shut the internet down. I smell a rat.
- hyderalamgir, on 05/22/2009, -2/+8Recession hits the FBI... whoring new revenue streams
- fungie5, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5They're actually using some Linux servers already and those were unaffected. But it was low level Windows systems that got hit with the virus. Apparently, it was an old virus that slipped through their grossly outdated Trend Micro antivirus software.
- Black6x, on 05/22/2009, -3/+8Not really going to do anything here. Like the military, there are two computer systems, non-secure and secure, or secret. All the real work is done on the secret side, which never actually touches the internet (most orgs still run Win 2K on that side, just because there are no new holes). The non secure side is mostly for google, news feeds, open source info, reading Digg, etc.)
- linuxrebel, on 05/23/2009, -1/+6Walk away folks. Nothing to see here. It wasn't a virus, just Vista got installed, Nothing to see.
- HHP2K, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5Sure as hell took a lot more time for the idiots in the comments on cnet to figure that out.
- whuddafugger, on 05/22/2009, -2/+6Must be some kinda variant of swine flu that only affects law enforcement officials. They're calling it PIG flu.
- richmomz, on 05/22/2009, -17/+21Looks like the pigs caught the swine flu...
- RyanCoke, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5If life was like Die Hard (4) - this would be the start of a "Fire Sale".
And Kevin Smith would help save us.
That's the difference between reality and the movies. That, and we would be screwed. - milkmage, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5it's from the future

- Trader76, on 07/26/2009, -0/+1All they need to do is install BluePoint Security. They block unknown viruses, pretty easy. www.bluepointsecurity.com
- wontstoptalking, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I like how without even mentioning it was a computer virus and not a pathogen, I automatically assumed it was a computer virus.
You gotta love that. - Kwipper, on 05/23/2009, -1/+2Where's John Connor when you need him?
- JohnnySoftware, on 09/01/2009, -0/+1I guess these comments are typical when a disclosure about a computer security exploit fails to mention what technology's flaws are at fault for the exploit.
People at risk running exactly the same software will not know what the cause of this break-in was. If there was any possible benefit to good folks from this incident, that would have been the one silver lining that could have come out of it. - EllimistX, on 05/22/2009, -2/+3Someone tell the Air Force not to make any hasty decisions.
- hibbie, on 05/23/2009, -1/+2It's the Decepticons!

- 3tcp, on 05/23/2009, -3/+1Quick, someone call John McClane!!!
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -4/+2I'm sure they *ALL* use IE, and I'm sure their security far outweighs 'NoScript' or 'QuickJava'.
Since it only affected their external network, it's safe to say there was a machine less than prepared for such an event that wreaked havok. - drastik21, on 05/22/2009, -5/+1Shut down all ports!!!
or get a better firewall. - assbeard, on 05/22/2009, -8/+3I wonder if it's Q-bot.b
